1. Not keen on his skills or style but the tone Adam Clayton gets live is incredible. Aguilar gear he uses just now and the guy from Bombay Bicycle Club uses the big Fender Super Bassman from which he gets some awesome noise. Again not too bothered by the band or skills just the fantastic sounds. Jared Followill gets some interesting sounds from various gear, walls of Ampeg 8x10s and also Audio Kitchen amps/cabs
2. Oh man! Tempted not feed my bitches for the rest of the month! GLWTS
3. Good advice from BC again, I'll get it valued. I'm hoping to part ex for a Limelight P bass
4. I need to take pics and check it's date on the links for dating Fenders but it's the middle Jazz on my profile pic. 1998(?) USA 75 RI. All original, the odd dink and sign of age but all in all in pretty good condition.
5. I'm considering a part ex so may take it in to the shops as don't want to pay the online Bluebook subscription. Thanks
6. I understand that there are many variables when it comes to valuation but I wondered what all you experienced sellers really judge a bass on before you set a for sale price? I was thinking of taking one of my basses to a couple of local stores that offer the service but wonder if it's a waste of time/money as just another opinion when all the members on here have probably bought and sold more than many retailers over the years.
7. We certainly do Squib! That's a cracking guitar and the fact it's still here puts me off selling my old Bassmans etc just now. If I shifted them I'd buy one of these beautiful basses for sale! Hope the market improves for you.
8. I can't believe this hasn't sold! Wish I had the cash mate. Very nice and mint looking bass!!!
9.
Why can we get the new slip knot album free on our Apple devices? Now that would interest me a lot more. As for Bonio, there's no doubt he has talent. I'm just sick of hearing him preach about us digging into our pockets for this charity or that charity, whilst he mosies about with his millions. Rock stars should just be that. I really get cheesed off when they preach politics or the like!
Exactly! I went to see the Beastie Boys and as we settled in to a good jump about the place they started asking us to give dosh to Tibet. I was thinking, you give em some. I'm skint.
10. I don't hate anyone or anything Phil. I've watched U2 live 6-7 times dating back to the Zoo TV tour and the sound, stage etc has always been top drawer. The one before last (can't remember which now) had Bono marching about the stage in a blind fold attempting to raise awareness for something. I have great respect for any person that uses their position/wealth to help those in need in our greedy world but as he paraded around even Edge/Larry/Adam looked very uncomfortable or even embarrassed on the huge screen close ups. As for every word being poured over then that's the game they are in and he cannot resist the theatrical musings that get peoples backs up. It seems he always has to revert to Frontman mode before speaking (he admitted as much on the recent Jo Whiley live radio show) when after so many years it would be refreshing to hear Paul not Bono. That's clearly up to him. All older, richer bands seem to come out with the arduous process guff whilst roaming the globe for expensive producers, studios and inspiration. Sounds like a hard life to me? Just a thought, an opinion, nothing more.
11. I struggle to like ageing multi millionaires discussing their difficult creative processes and describing how arduous making an album in lovely studios with the best equipment available was. However, since my unwanted U2 gift arrived I have discovered it contains some drivel but IMO Every Braking Wave is a song crafted simply and cleverly with fantastic vocals that unfortunately demonstrates that the old buggers have sold squillions of albums and have the right to tell my sorry working mans ass to F off with my opinion. I'm not jealous. Honest.
12. I've got love for it Bump! but sadly not the cash this side of Xmas.
13. I was going to mention the ohms, apparently if buying new you can request that they change the combo speaker to 8 ohms to allow the cab extension. I really fancy buying one now they look top notch! Well done on getting it past the Mrs a man after my own heart!
14. Incedentally, she hasn't spied it yet! That's the spirit, I came home with SVT 115 cab last year and told the Mrs my friend gave me it! Poor innocent ignorance! Battered but nice cab mate I'd go for it if I didn't just spend 5k on house crap. If I can swing it I'll message you ASAP.
15. Again in my youth I didn't wear plugs and feel lucky to have got away with it. I have medical examinations every second year and if my hearing goes my job goes so it's plugs absolutely every time for me. I've tried various ones with various results and all I would add is that a cheap plug is better than nothing but try and spend what you can afford because it is important. A few gigs to adjust to the sensation perhaps but no big deal. Also none of my bandmates wear any, I don't preach but I don't understand them either. F**cking guitarist premadonna's, guitar changes, f*nnying about, pouting lips, combing hair, waxing eyebrows, leather trousers...not really but you all know what I mean.
16. Anyone got an opinion on the Mesa Walkabout 12 combo? Oops just re-read the not remortgage part of the question!
17. Exhausting! Sat/Sun night weddings in a Scottish Castle (Shieldhill) Middle of nowhere then a coastal hotel (Brisbane in Largs) so with travel not home till 03:30 each night! Crowds went crazy and we are plastered all over that horrid Facebook today. Many many beautiful ladies in attendance all attracted to...lead f**kin guitarist. Old Bassman sounded absolutely marvellous in the old castle, tempted to keep carrying the weight.
18. She Caught the Katy has to go on there but I'm in work and can't add it!!!
19. Yeah I'm getting decisive here. TH500 and the TKS S2126 with that nice grill cloth finish. Should be plenty power and I can lug the Bassman about when I want. Want to but a Bassman ;-)
20. Wateroftyne what finish is that on your S212 mate it looks great, is that just the grill cloth? Fancy one of these or the S2126. What made you decide on the S212? They really do look like excellent cabs for the sound I'm after. Thanks for joining us Tommy!
21. I will keep one Bassman and the Ampeg cabs because when high volume isn't needed the old fender and an SVT 410 cab just sounds great. It's my ideal sound. I like the look of the TKS cabs too, Tommy seems a helpful, clued up fella so it's definately an option! Keep me posted on your TH500 situation please Karl, as for retailers Reddog Music in Edinburgh have had good reports so I'll start my trek there and see how far I have to travel to try rigs.
22. I've been going round and round in circles with this, was TH500, then Tecamp Puma 500 Combo, then RH750 with 2x212 vertical. Now Orange Terror 500 but what cabs? it's driving me nuts! Bassman,Showman and Ashdown ABM 500 410 all going for service then sale in coming weeks then I'll take the leap! All opinions very much appreciated guys
23. Very interesting dudes. Thanks Karl this proves conclusively that I'm going to have to travel to decent retailers and listen hard before taking an internet plunge!!!
24. I just moved house that i stripped back to the bricks with all associated costs, gigs have bought real boring stuff from Screwfix! Won't be long Dr Evil Bass is plotting and scheming for the Rig of Doom! I'll jump on the train south in the new year. Is Manchester any good for retailers? As in more than one/two shops?
