  1. Good call. I'm using a Big Baby II with it which is a pretty efficient cab!
  2. That was the first time I went to any kinda gig. Great way to start!
  3. Ok so that's similar to my old LH500. I'll have a play about with that. Thank you
  4. The recent purchase of a Peavey VB-2 has encouraged me to re-investigate the delights of my old Laney Supergroup 100 from 1969. When I bought this, my son renovated and revalved it using JJ power valves. It’s an absolute delight tone wise and great for recording as I can get an overdriven tone at reasonable levels with no problem at all. Unfortunately this is also the amp’s Achilles heels. The couple of times I’ve taken it out to gig I’ve really struggled to get it to modest volume levels without the tone breaking up completely. Ideal for a Sabbath tribute I guess but not very practical. I guess this is the nature of the beast and I need to learn to love it for what it is and how it sounds, but I was wondering if it could be modded for more clean headroom? Different valves maybe? Get someone to rebids it - would that help? Any ideas gratefully received!
  5. I wish mine was in as good a nick as this!
  6. I've had a couple of LH500's and moved them on but only because of the weight. Lovely sound, plenty of volume and easy to get a good tone once you understand the pre.
  7. . . . Breaks out the popcorn!
  8. Milton Keynes, so some distance!
  9. Is it available for Mac?
  10. Doh! Too far for collection but thanks for the heads up!
  11. Ha - yellow pages!!
  12. Yeah I was trying to get it to balance better with the bridge pickup which has had the cap bypassed. Also the pole pieces don't line up and I was hoping to be able to compensate by adjusting them on the new pup!!
  13. Just thought I'd share some shots of my '77 Burgundyglo Rick 4001. I use this for recording and 'special' gigs. The pics are warts and all showing good and bad! Note '77 scratched into the headstock just below the tuners - not by me!! Anyone other than Alec care to own up to previously owning this?!
  14. I wouldn't mind one of these to go with my Big Baby II. Need a black grille though. Good luck with the sale!
  15. No worries Mister!
  16. My son revalved it and did some magic inside so it's very useable now. I've been recording some tracks for the new Stray album with it. The early break up works really well for recording as I can get THAT tone without blowing the windows out. I have been tempted to sell as it's worth a fortune now but shall keep as an investment. It's also what the original bass player in Stray used. I might see if at can be fettled for more Headroom!
  17. Will it also be on freesat?
  18. Quick update on this. After my initial delight I've found I've been struggling a bit to get the awesomeness I was expecting. Having done a bit of digging, I've found some of them shipped with the wrong type of valve in the phase splitter position. I gingerly took the back off mine and investigated and sure enough, there was a 12AX7 instead of a 12AT7. I ordered a new valve and the difference is night and day. More clean headroom, much nicer, less fizzy sounding distortion channel and even the eq sounds more powerful. A little bit of lockdown happiness for his tutness!
  19. Thank you buddy!
  20. I recently took delivery of a B Stock Peavey VB - 2 225W valve amp. These have 6 power valves, 2 12AX7 preamp valves and a 12AT7 driver tube/phase splitter. I'd read reports that some units shipped mistakenly with a12AX7 valve in place of the 12AT7 valve. I had the back off mine today, got the tube cover off and had a peek, and sure enough, mine has the wrong valve in. The valve seems to be sunken into the chassis, so my question is, does it just pull out? It seems quite firmly inserted and I'm a bit nervous about damaging it! Also, can I buy any old 12AT7 tube or is a certain make/type recommended? Thanks in advance.
  21. Hi there, what's the weight please and is the neck narrow Jazz width or traditional Precision?

That looks lovely. My surname is Kempster. Where's the shop?
  23. I originally put the Goldo Bridge on that red Bronco. They are a pain to set up but once done you can forget about it. The spacing is adjustable but at it's minimum is slightly wider than original set up. I've got one on my Musicmaster as well. If you have a little patience, they're a cheap fix.
  24. I think a lot of it depends on your band situation. A couple of years ago I was running my own band that I fronted as a singing bass player also supplying and running the PA and lights. So much gear to cart about and set up so anyway I could minimise gear and have one less run out to the car was most welcome. I could fit my GK MB500 into my gig bag and still get a reasonable sound. Now I’m playing in a touring band, we have the luxury of Roadies. I can concentrate on tone rather than convenience, hence the addition of an all valve brute of an amp. Just can’t bloody wait to gig it!
