I'd jump on that if I were nearer. My first bass was one of them.

Why are some manufacturers still using mahogany, ebony etc
King Tut replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
I'd guess that there's Mahogany and Mahogany. I'd like to think the basses you're talking about are probably made from a more sustainable variation of Mahogany. I'd do a bit more research if I were you before ruling out some decent instruments. -
I play short and long scale basses. I've got tiny hands so I can play faster and more comfortably on short scales. I only really continue with long scale because I have some beautiful basses and I can't bear to let them go. I only really play continue to play a Ric in Stray because the original bass player used one and the rest of the band, crew and fans kind of expect it! The Ric does have a slightly shorter scale than a Fender mind!!

Mastering hit me with your rhythm stick

I've just been learning this and the thing that stood out for me is how important it is to suss the best right hand plucking technique for the various bits, especially the little Jaco-esque phrase that starts on the FB. I've set up a similar drum loop and just gradually upped the tempo until I can do 104 BPM. Stated Friday and I'm just about there but not quite clean enough yet to be satisfied! -
I love it. I play in a Classic Rock Band called Stray playing on the medium size venue circuit. It's easily loud enough with power to spare. I use a pedal for overdrive, but it will overdrive. I tend to use mine just under break up. It excels at a nice warm middly sound that cuts through the mix a treat. If warm and middly isn't your bag I believe the Mosfet version gives a more modern tone.

Ive had two. They sound great but are pretty weighty to lug about. You wont get much dirt out of them though. I use a Veyron Tube head now. Cheap and good for rock!

Did you manage to get an off the shelf scratchplate for the Mustang or did you have to have one made up?

This resurrection has encouraged me to give mine an airing! -
I just bought a Yamaha TRBX 305. Weighs in at bang on 9lb. I like it lots!

I played at The 100 Club last year. I let the support band use my rig, which Wasa barefaced BB2 and an Eden EX112 powered by my 'spare' amp which was an Elf. They were a loud classic rock band called Pig Iron. The sound engineer had to ask Hugh, their bass player, to turn down. So yeah if you're playing through efficient speakers, they're loud enough to gig!

"The first adds a more vintage vibe to your tone and the second gives you extra punch that's ideal for slapping." . . . . . otherwise known as VLE and VPF?! -
Just wanted to share this rather nice vid from our show at The Garage. Essentially Rik 4003 into Joyo Orange Juice into Bugera Veyron 1001T. Di Post EQ. You can hear the bass a treat with headphones. I'm pretty happy with that tone.

I've changed my board a bit and now using a Joyo Orange Juice for a mild overdrive. If you clip the pre on the Veyron it tends to rough it up a bit, particularly if you boost the mids on the middle of the three settings. Ironically I'm trying it with 2k boosted tonight for a bit more edge! EDIT - just realised you've got the MOSFET version.

So i've used my Bugera for the last three nights having done 7 on the bounce with my Trace - all other things being equal. Last night can't count as we had a bit of a balls up. The engineer accidently knocked my DI switch from post to pre when we changed bands which resulted in massive bass going to front of house overwhelming the mix which we had to work through. However in Norwich, and tonight, at The Garage, I had a glorious sound, more than enough volume and a really nice focussed low mid. The EQ isn't as versatile as the Trace but the sound is nice and musical, and the convenience factor is great. So my Bugera is the way forward for the time being!

Thanks Lozz. It's going through just the B1xfour on that song with a fuzz setting (a muff I think) and a Joyo Orange Juice. Fuzztastic!

The Victoria Club Aylesbury, dreadfull load in and bad parking. Also a pub in the allegedly posh part of Luton (name escapes me). Horrible atmosphere and chavvy clientele.

Pedant alert . . . . . it's a UV light, not a green light on mine 😉

I've been gigging an old Trace AH300 for the last two weeks of our tour so I've really got used to the sound and feel. I've not been using the preshapes and have been using an amp simulator into the front end (VT or Orange Juice). I'm going to take the Veyron T out for tomorrow's show in Norwich so should be able to give an informed report back on how it compares in the heft dept. I'll be running it through a Nemesis 4 x 10.

That's right yeah - no those were Silverlink days I think - or early London Midland - happy daze!
