Horrid cut the shape to my design out of brushed gold effect blank. I then masked and sprayed it matt black and clear coated it. He also made a black ebony thumb rest for me, can you spot it? No? Good He's brilliant. Previously he made this lovely one-piece gold PG for my '83 USA Standard Jazz, lovely init!
Cool, that bodes well for Saturday then :-)
Should be a very interesting gig mate! Really looking forward to it! -
Not mine, I appreciate precision and technicality when it's done with feeling and genuine energy. That self satisfied look they all give each other when they do something tricky says it all I think.
You don't laugh and share joy with your bandmates when you do something cool as a band? Those magic moments when you all look at each other and go 'wahahaaay! wickid!!' They all have genuine feeling and energy from what I can see. They live and breath music. They have put so much work into what they do and where they are now. What a shame that people feel so cynical and judgemental about their perceived levels of energy and genuine feeling.
I wonder if it was written in a clean room? ...because it's so sterile... GET IT?!?!
Precision = Sterility in a lot of people's worlds. It's a shame.
Yup, it's now sorted. Everything is set for completion tomorrow - yippee!!
I totally admire your skill and perfectionism. This is going to be a stunning instrument!
Lovely smooth sound that sits in the mix like a keystone.
Thank you mate! Yes, I'm very pleased with it, I was a little worried it might sound a bit too 'bridgy' if you know what I mean, and it does have that tighter thumpier sound than the neck pups I would normally select, but I really like the tightness of it, it sits in a mix really nicely so far. Cheers.
And people in covers bands get fed up of people in originals bands looking down their noses at them for being unoriginal, selling out, making more money for perceived less effort/artistic value or whatever the damn beef is. At the risk of sounding like a total sap - we're all performing music here, can't we all just get along?
Some people might have said that but I did not. I have no beef, I don't look down my nose, large though it is. But I do get a little pissed at the arguments that originals bands are often crap and not worth going out to see.
AGAIN
Nothing wrong with that aspect is there? I just get a little fed up with cover band advocates slagging off unfamiliar originals bands because of perceived quality issues. Those of us in originals bands know how hard it can be to create a body of work and build an audience, regardless of the perceived quality of the music. There's no monetary gain to speak of, just lots of hard work for the pleasure of playing to often indifferent audiences.
Fancy - me going out for something as trivial as kicks and money ....not exhibiting any effort or creativity while I do it..... what a sad empty life I must lead. You've never managed to grasp that some people aspire to be craftsmen rather than artists , have you ? !
No need to wig out, Doctor.

They're very good, but are they any match for the original in terms of the energy produced on the stage? . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMUJkauJ-mM Can't understand why some of the posts here are so deferential, they are very good at what they do but any good musician should be able to do that. It's the singer who's the rare one. I have nothing against covers and tribute bands, but I do find it depressing when people think that it's something to aspire to. It's not the same as classical orchestras and jazz bands playing others' compositions because they are keeping the music alive and bringing it to new audiences, it's more often out of love and duty I think. Cover bands are often doing it for kicks and money from what I can tell, more taking than giving, an easy way to play at being the rock star without the creativity, effort and uncertainty of going out there with original music. There's a sad emptiness to it in some respects. Tribute bands seem to be more born from obsession so I feel better disposed towards them than cover bands.
Another big fan! I'm off to see him tomorrow in Oswestry and then at the Robin on the 3rd Nov. As usual with Frank, it'll either be laclustre or totally wonderful. Massively talented.
I'm seeing him in London. Got the album the other day and it's really kinda nostalgic, it's like early YES. My favourite track is Multi Coloured Judy Green, it's wonderful! Love the lyrics. Hope the shows you go to vibe you the f*** out man! -
It was extraordinary. Lovely to meet BC's miles'tone and his friend James, we had a damn good natter and a drinkie, top people! And I bumped into my old drummer, and a geezer from my street A thoroughly splendid and memorable evening. Massive orchestra!

If you want to know a bit about Doreen Thobekile (who this bass is tribute to) http://basschat.co.u...ndpost&p=885681 Post 51 She really was an amazing woman and performer. What an honour to have played in her band. Her daughter Ingrid is keeping alive Doreen's legacy. Cheers x
That. Is bloody amazing
Mate, it's incredibly important to me that you approve. Thanks man

Oh guys, THANK YOU! Such lovely words make my heart glow It's not perfect, I need to sort out the PG screw hole between the teeth, the drop-fill black paint keeps sinking, and there's the odd blemish, but I can live with those. Kevin Lindsey's 62/66 Jazz refinish kills me, it's really beautiful and he's such a perfectionist. Despite the little blemishes, I think it's worthy of having Doreen's name on the headstock, and I be rocking it at the next London Zulu gig Thanks again

dad, you're a closet genius -
Wow, that likes so cool. Great work Nigel and UH, I love the headstock logo too. I hope that you get the frets sorted out soon.
Cheers man I took it to a 5 hour rehearsal last night, it was great to play! Very easy on the hands with those oft tapewounds. I need to write some POD patches for it to get the most from its sounds. The active circuitry packs a wallop. I'll try to get some soundclips done today.
