1. I'll use the stock set until they totally die. I'd want a very light gauge/low tension set on this. I think I have just the right set in my draw unused, but then again, nickel rounds might be just right for me on this bass.
2. Aye, I usually play Musicman basses (my Fenders are great but don't get used so much at the moment) but I'm looking forward to using this...I've got a Tonehammer if I want to 'active' it up. But, I'm more than happy to just go classic Jazz with it and maybe get some 'bright' flats on it like the EB Cobalts at some point.
3. Just to confirm, if you DO get chance to snap one of these up, I would personally do it now. This has been the least stress free Fender purchase I've had in ages...! DV247 have one in stock (or did) and I think even GuitarGuitar do as well.... I wouldn't be surprised if this was a test of the market by Fender, and full production might be based on how well these sell and how they take off in terms of the general public making comments about playing one. Then they hit full production at £1100+....although the Nate Mendal....!?!?!?!? Now that seems a good option for a Road Worn P. I can see why the relic-look is an appeal now. There is something oddly brilliant about how it looks and feels. The body doesn't feel 'plastic' or stiff. it feels worn and comfortable. It just looks 'right' on a Fender that is attempting to replicate an older guitar or bass. Looking at the Sandberg relics, this seems miles ahead and it's a good deal cheaper....!
4. I've got a P and J American Standard, both post-2009, but both before they changed the cases back (I love those cases so it is a shame they don't do them now) and before the latest pickups. Both took me a while to find. I have tried around 10 or so American Standards, and it took some time to get these two with the feel and quality I wanted. With the Flea Jazz, I wasn't expecting it to be this good! So it has way surpassed my expectations and it hasn't even been plugged in yet. The other MIM I have is a Baja Telecaster. Everyone knows they are superb. It is better than my old American Standard Tele. It is on par with the 50's reissues in terms of high quality, good bridge, the right snarly pickups, fat neck, and very well made, except it isn't nitro....it is however very pretty. This guitar also arrived with perfect quality control and setup. Bizarre! Obviously the MIJ/CIJ are virtually always good (IME) and the Jag I got last year is yet more proof. It almost seems like when the Mexican factory is allowed more budget to work on their high end MIM models, they slam it out of the park. Now I want a Roadworn P!
5. It looks as though the spacing is basically traditional Jazz bridge position, traditional P pickup position, which can look a little cluttered, but it'll be the best of both worlds
6. Jees. I got 10 minutes on this unplugged. Pretty decent weight wise (lighter than my American Standard) but that's not the main thing. This bass is beautiful straight out of the box. Perfectly setup and in tune. Nice low-medium action. QC is perfect. This is the second high end MIM I've bought and I'm impressed again. Vol/tone no issues in terms of clicks/smooth movement. Paintwork and wear is so good. What a colour. Neck pocket fitment is perfect. What a brilliant bass. Probably the easiest Jazz I've played. There is something about the Road Worn series...
7. Aye, the offset look is getting popular again with guitarists, and this new AS bass looks awesome. P/J, plus looks amazing!
8. Not to put any pressure on your set up guy, but if you've used him as a service (like a business) and paid him, and he is at fault (even if it may also be partly accident) then actually, he should be dealing with this for you and not just handing it back. It's like passing a car to a garage for a service and they ruin the engine. Is he insured?
9. I actually think in your scenario that the Barefaced powered cab might be suitable.
10. Mine is arriving today! Oh, guess what, as I'm off to see a band tonight, not going home from work first, then working all day tomorrow and off straight for a work evening, then I probably won't be back until very late. So basically, in the house to sleep only. The first time I'm going to get to open it will be Saturday
11. For some reason I can't quote on a work PC, but agree with you there Beedster! I like that Sandberg are basically making classic basses with modern features, but the new style bodyshapes don't suit the wear. It must be so ingrained in our brains that it is mainly Fender guitars and basses that look great worn in. I've recently seen some high end Les Paul guitars by a boutique manufacturer. Must be like £3K +. The relic look really looks awful on them. I don't know why. I think Les Pauls and SGs look better with very very light wear instead of the proper relic look.
12. That sounds even worse haha! I've always wanted a fairly battered looking P or J. The Fiesta Red J I tried (Road Worn) looked and felt awesome. Wish I'd got one when they first came out. The Sandbergs look great, but for some reason the Fender wear looks more authentic to me....thin nitro vs poly wear? Only problem is, I won't even get to open the box tomorrow as I'm at work all day, the missus is in on her day off, then we are off straight to a gig, then I basically need to go to bed! BOOOOOO.
13. All paid for, arriving tomorrow! I've forgotten what new bass day feels like! I'm quite looking forward to not worrying about wear and tear, which sounds ridiculous!
14. HAHHA! Sorry but I enjoy your reaction to it! Mine is with GuitarGuitar ready to be shipped. Probably have it by Thursday. Fingers crossed it all works out.
15. I wish I had that kind of time! Career and keeping in shape keeps me away from instruments at the moment.
16. A couple of years back, I finished obtaining a great collection of Musicman basses, and a guitar. Now, it would cost over a 1/3 more...at least. I'm not in any way saying they don't command a high price, this is more down to how expensive it has come to buy high end American goods in the UK. Mesa is another example, but they have always been insanely priced here.
17. I honestly thought I'd made an error regarding the normal Road Worn prices. I'd love a Precision. £1100?!?!? Seriously? They were what, £750 about 2-3 years back. I honestly don't know of anyone whose salary/wage has risen in line with price hikes in this country. Hence another reason to jump on this bass. When I saw the advert for it, I immediately thought 'going to be £1200'.... I've also just seen the price of a new Stingray and Bongo. WHAT?!?!??! Glad I got those a few years back.
18. Really odd that it is at NAMM and then available in Europe almost straight away! It would be quite cool if it is a limited run, like the various Johnny Marr Jaguar colours that are limited (Black, Sherwood Green) but then it would also be nice for others to be able to get one and try them out. Some stores are so slow off the mark it is a wonder how they compete with places like Andertons. I've been awaiting a website listing and final price to deposit a new Boss CE-2W for over a week now so I'm just not bothering with them. Same with the Flea bass, although to be fair they probably won't get stock.
19.
Andertons are already showing that this line may be discontinued. Mind you, the Geddy and Marcus were limited runs. In 1998
It's weird isn't it! I tweeted them and they said they are sure it is limited at the moment. Oh well, I've always wanted a shell pink Fender, always wanted a road worn, but didn't want to pay £1100!
20. Wow! I'm so glad I preordered one of these!
21. OK - Andertons have told me it IS a limited release. Who knows, Fender might release more at some point, but I couldn't order one. I asked Richtone a few days ago and they just don't seem to want my order. I've deposited one of the few that GuitarGuitar are getting. Apparently only 4 left.
22. Bargain. I've got a proper Fender hardcase for a Jazz anyway...or a Mono, so probably good they don't up the price and include a hardcase.
23. That colour is perfect. I must have one. I know it's only a side issue but does it come with a gig bag?
24. PLEASE LET US KNOW WHAT IT IS LIKE!!!
25. I just bought a Microkorg XL a few years back - I still enjoy it. I'm about to venture into synth pedals. Digitech Dirty Robot sound ace.
