+1 to all of those, Nik, and I'll just throw in a couple more faves that I never tire of hearing: "Running Up That Hill" and "Cloudbusting" (accompanied by the amazing video/mini-movie featuring Donald Sutherland).

Ok, so we've established (quite rightly) that both KB and JM are both musical geniuses (genii?). To the less-enlightened out there - tough! But are there any other, specifically female, artists who have a similar long-term tie with a super bassist? For example, another favourite of mine for many, many years has been Bonnie Raitt who in her earlier period had Freebo on bass until he was ousted in the early 80's. Maybe not in the same mould as Jaco or even Giblin, but a very solid and complementary player, all the same. Any other female+bassist recommendations? [p.s. - I know we could also reverse this, such as Tal W. and Rhonda S. with Jeff Beck, but I'm currently more interested in the female plus (male or female) bassist pairings]

Yep, I envy you that, Nik. I wasn't able to make the 2016 show, more's the pity. The words "eye" and "teeth" come to mind! But from your description it sounds every bit as good as I would have expected.

I will say that Joni is and always has been my absolute 'number one' female artist/singer/songwriter... ever. But I've also said that (imho), in terms of originality, production and character, Kate runs an extremely close second and, for me, is one of the very best female singer-songwriters to emerge from the UK. But that's just me.

Well done, guys, I just listened to Episode 3. Nice interview with Jack Roan / Noble Amps with some great insights as to how this one-man-band functions. Also enjoyed the Marketplace sneak-peeks. Will that be a regular feature now?

Sad to learn of this. Although I can't say I knew Colin very well, like a few others here, just from the SEBB. RIP mate.
-
Something else I picked up many years ago though not from the store itself.

In the 80's when they first opened, The Bass Centre was my 'local' (or near as dammit) so I used to pop in there on and off. But not too regular -- I couldn't afford it!! Personally I have fond memories of the place and most of the guys were usually pretty decent and friendly. I bought a few bits over the years and still have some receipts (pictured) but the best thing I snagged was my Tune TWB-6 back in 1997 (can't find the receipt for that, though! 😕 ). Always had good service and setups from techie Chris Ward.

Not sure if Tiger Tours (Wembley) or Matt Snowball (London N7) might suit you. I've used both previously, albeit a few years ago, and had no complaints.
-
I'm still gutted that I had to miss the recent SEBB but I have to say, for sheer value and personal enjoyment, I would rather attend a bass bash than that there LBGS!

Must make next year....must make next year....must make next year....must make next year....

I very much enjoyed the first three episodes and was looking forward to the fourth and final show but must admit I felt a little let down by it, not just because of the "top 20 drummers" list -- always a bit of a waste of time as these things can never be definitive (imho) -- but also because it just seemed like the programme makers had perhaps run out of steam and put together a compilation of clips from the previous three episodes along with the aforementioned top 20 list. That said, I was pleased to see Tom Lang and his crazy 6-pedal kit, also Craig Blundell included in the series, one of the few representatives of the "7/8-9/8-13/8 Club" -- otherwise known as Prog Rock!
-
Yes, so many more drummers I'm sure we could all mention that didn't get featured in the programme. I've been hugely impressed having seen, among others, Manu Katche, Vinnie Colaiuta, Abe Laboriel Jnr, Ricky Lawson and one of my all-time favourites, Richie Hayward (RIP) from Little Feat. One other drummer I must mention ('cos I did some recording and live work with him a couple of years ago) who also has some serious moves, is Mark Brzezicki (Big Country, Procol Harum).

I finally was able to take time and check out BC podcast #2 (...thanks @ped for the slight nudge! ). Really enjoyed Bo's chat with @TrevorR about his love and history of Wal basses. Not made it to a Wal myself (at least not yet) although I did have one of the then new Hayman 4040's back in the day, as discussed during the chat. Also enjoyed Bo and Si's chat regarding performance, gigging, etc. Having just played a Prog fest in south Wales (roundtrip from Essex 350-odd miles returning the same day) I completely sympathise with Si's 800-miles-plus roundtrip gig north o' the border! So, all in all, another great job with the podcast, chaps. I have to say, at just over an hour, it was a little easier for me to make it through in one hit. Looking forward to Episode 3.

I'm listening to Trevor and Bo's chat right now. 👍 😎 👍

Just catching up having returned from the gig that put the kibosh on my attending the bash. Looks like it was another successful bash (I would expect nothing less! ). I really missed this! Ah well, roll on next year!
-
Yep, same here, Jack.
-
Never heard of him.......... or Derek Nash!
-
Not unless you want to move your gig to the early morning! 😎
-
Seriously gutted, it looks like I won't be able to make it to the bash as I've now been told we need to be set up earlier for my gig than originally informed. (It's a hotel/private function do). Bah, humbug!!! 😞 Have a great day, all. Hopefully see you at the next one.

The Corduroy tune "How To Steal The World" definitely seems inspired by the theme to "The Streets of San Francisco" (which I believe may have had Carol Kaye on bass).
