1. Far from it. I have been playing guitar for 25 years, it was bass I was not willing to try. However, I now like it, but asked to move on to guitar.
2. Quote: The 80s for me meant bands like Echo and the Bunnymen, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Magazine (just about made it into the 80s), The Comsat Angels, Cabaret Voltaire, New Order. That's what I feel also.
3. no, and how do you know trigger?
4. Seen an advert in the local rag for a “AC30, 60’s in need of repair, not for beginners: 350 GBP”. So I thought I’d give the guy a call to see what he meant by not for beginners. Anyway the guy only stays a couple miles up the road. So I ask if I can come round to see the amp and bring my guitar to try it out. I was pretty broke at the time, but thought I might manage a deal. Got round there to find this 61 tan AC30. It was scruffy to say the least. Mojo I think it would be called on here. I plugged in and started playing. It was great. I asked why he was selling it and was told that he now had a Yamaha amp simulator which gave him the sounds he needed. WTF! I told him he had a great amp I was really hoping to have haggled but hearing it couldn’t start to imagine he would drop the price. Well he said he would and to offer something. I didn’t know where to start. I asked how he knew it was a 61 and he produced a brand new VOX story type book and pointed one out like it in there. Also what speakers etc were fitted at that time. Once again I said he should keep it and he would get the price. Meanwhile I was picking away enjoying the sound. I hear him saying 275, nope you should keep it, how about 250, nope again I really didn’t want to take it off him for such a low price, 200, 175, 150 all went by in conversation. I finally heard 125 and I’ll throw in the 35quid book. I couldn’t believe it. I was totally unprepared for this. I asked if he would take the fiver I had in my pocket as deposit and he said yes. Went back the next day with the money and I’m still the proud owner of the AC30 and that was 10 years ago at least. I did get a call from a guy in Holland wanting to give me 1200 without seeing it. I said no.
5. It's not my friend that wants to change. I think he wants to keep it going for his girlfriends sake to be honest. I'll give it a go and see what happens. Still keeping the bass(s) though:) Also made it clear that my gear will not be getting shared!
6. ah, just found Echo Beach:)
7. Good comments guys. The thing is that it's all a bit complicated as bands usually are. I've been friends with this guy for years, 20 at least. The songwriter is the singers brother, the singer is my friends girlfriend. My friends had enough as well I think.
8. ah yes. Super Yob guitar. Classic. Man I really tried to get the dave hill hair cut, but even taking photos in was no good. Used to always be interested to see what letter they turned round or changed in their titles. IE Cum on feel the noize etc
9. I'm listening to music on my hard drive. I came across five cd's of the 80's hits type thing. Of the five cd's I've only managed to find about 10-12 songs I clicked on to listen to. Even some of them only got about 30 seconds. Were the 80’s as bad as that? I seem to remember some decent stuff going on then.
10. I’m sure you guys won’t remember my introduction a while back. It told of how a good friend of mine was stuck for a bass player due to the songwriter in the band wanting to play guitar. I really wasn’t interested in doing it as I liked playing guitar. However, after a few months I finally gave in and picked up the bass for them. I really got into it and got some decent gear together. However, over the last few months the band has not been meeting up to learn songs etc, and I was getting rather fed up with it all. I finally got together with my friend and got the full story. The songwriter guy now wants to stop playing guitar due to the ‘work’ involved trying to get his act together. He wants to go back on bass as he thinks it’s easier it seems. Bugger me I’ve been learning songs from scratch and putting in some decent (for me as a newbie) lines. Now they want me to play guitar instead of him and hope that that will bring him back into the mood…..FFS! I’ve told my friend that I’m not going to flit back and forth every time the guy thinks it’s getting too much like work. I might have guessed really as sometimes we practice at round noon, and he’s always struggling to get there on time and is always half asleep. what now??
11. TBH I think people got fed up leaving feedback when some of the feedback was negative for the least little thing. My friend has had a lot of trouble on ebay with people getting something from him and when it arrives they say there’s something wrong with it. Saying it doesn’t sound right or not working etc when in fact it was fine. Then they offer him a lower price, IE my mate has to send a refund of 30-40 quid or whatever or they will return it at his cost blah blah blah. Ebay is a lottery at best these days.
