Overwater

Ok guys. Some info. I sent photos to Overwater and they seem to think I have a early Progress bass. It has a through neck and two pick up. Active electrics. Plays and sounds nice. Thinking is from the early 90's

Overwater

Hello BC. Just wondering how I would know the difference between a Tanglewood Overwater Bass, and a erm! Overwater bass. Cheers
4. Very good to deal with. If he can deal with me, he can deal with anyone lol. Thanks Keith
5. Hmmm to OP. Your title for the thread 'All the gear and no-eye-dear' leads me to believe you are trying to refer to people having all the fancy kit, but no idea what to do with it, or how to play it….or are you trying to say they have all the gear but have no idea what it’s worth? Yet here we are and the thread has got in to a 'I can afford this or that so I'm going to get it'. This in fact is okay in my book…why not? Like many on here I have high end kit and low end kit and stuff in between. I think people should buy what they want if they have the ’spare’ cash to do so. Not so, if it means the kids have holes in their shoes etc. Why do people buy expensive art? Is it because they have no idea what expensive art is? What I will say though and I’ve said it many times before. In a full band situation it really does not matter if you are playing a Squire or a Fender CS, and Epi or a Gibson. The crowd will not know the difference 99% of the time…if not a higher%. Which brings me to this. If the crowd don’t know, but you do and it makes you feel good the it’s worth it.
6. that's taking the free thing too far (no pun) even for me
7. LP Jnr SC.....that's as old as me if possible J45 A good small valve amp
8. Ooo F*** my reply with a quote is not working again:(
9. There definitely a fair amount of Muso thoughts in this thread. TBH I really don’t think 90% of a crowd on NYE give a monkeys armpit if the band are very good. It’s all about music content most of the time. They are there to have a good time, drinking, dancing, snogging and some other bits and bobs. Of course there will be few in there thinking that the band is rough and playing “not that again” tunes in a very mediocre manner. You can see this every week in pubs that have bands up our way. Two bands spring to mind that have been playing mostly the same tunes for the last decade or so. However, the people love them and flock to see them churn out the ‘classics’ with the odd modern ‘classic’ thrown in. Really…..most crowds only want to have a laugh and a dance. Considering a LL could get a barmaid or karaoke ‘wannabe’ dj to spin some disc’s on a second hand DJ CD deck….or laptop and hard drive, getting a band is not the cheapest entertainment he could have booked.
10. Do you think there are forums for bar tenders or bouncers with threads like: NBD: Just bought a new sky blue cotton top I think I’ll give it a debut tonight at the Fox and Hounds. Or FS: Black bomber jacket, small amount of blood stains on left sleeves Disclaimer: I’m not saying that bar tenders are all female, or that bouncers get into a lot of bloody situations.
11. Hardly the same. We same to be missing a point here in that people playing in a band do it because they like playing in a band and making noise etc. Can't remember the last time I heard a bartender or a bouncer saying, that they really enjoy it and would do it as a hobby.
12. Grrrrr I also tried to get this but my pc crapped itself just as I was trying to send my message. Enjoy lol:)
13. Oh no! Not sure where I sit with this. Part of my thinks it’s unfair to take one man’s living from him because they are willing to work for very little, or nothing at all just because they enjoy it. Another part of me thinks that if someone wanted to get into music as way of making living knowing that it would be hard to make a decent living, however still gets into it knowing there won’t be a boss or clocking in card, long lies in the morning etc…. One guys works all week for ‘the man’ puts up with sh*t, early mornings, possibly working in all sorts of horrible weather. For this he gets a decent livable wage. Then at the weekend just wants to do his hobby regardless of payment or not. The other has chosen to basically work doing something they like and get paid for it. Both have made their choices, and neither should give the other a hard time.
14. I think there are bands today that do ok. But must are rubbish....that's just my opinion of course. don't ask me the names of the bands, I just hear them being played by the GF 18yr old daughter.
15. All very exciting mate, I hope it’s as good as you hope/dream it will be. Saying that I thought that a custom/bespoke builder would do what you want and not what he was jigs for. Am I missing something?
16. I’ve been thinking recently about buying another bass…. First question: When will I stop thinking about buying another bass, is it reasonable to think that this may be the case? Okay now the important part. I have seen a lot of very nice Limelight basses going about on the BC site. Not seen much Bravewood ones, but remember that he used to make some lovely repro fender guitars. So my question is this. How do these repro guitars compare to the ‘real thing’ By that I mean a repro Jazz against a Fender Jazz from all outlets…USA, Japan etc? How is the playability and sound of the repro’s stack up against the original thing? I if I spend several hundred quid on a repro then what will the sale value do in several years from now. For instance if I buy a USA Jazz for the same money that I can get a repro for, it is likely to go up in value at some point….will the repro do this? Which would be a better repro….Limelight or Bravewood? Which would be the better guitar…Limelight, Bravewood, or Fender?
17. The music is ok actually. It's as I said...a long story. The lead guitarist asked me about 2-3yrs ago to play guitar for them. This was more of him saying ‘I’ve got a band going on and we need a 2[sup]nd[/sup] guitarist’. He told me that the songwriter guy wrote the songs on a guitar, but was looking at playing bass as it’s harder to get bass players. So I said okay I would have a listen to the stuff and see. The next time I saw him he said the songwriter now wanted to play guitar and would I play bass. I said no as I had never got past playing the start of The Chain by Fleetwood mac. So they continued to play the songs they had while looking for a bass. Now to cut a story short, I ended up playing bass for them at the end of last year. Letting the songwriter now play guitar. However he now wants back on bass (lazy I think) because I’ve made it sound really cool lol.
18. But not fast enough I fear lol
