Paid a fiver for this & felt shafted: Just needed some strings & "worked" perfectly. Shame you can't see the jack hanging by bare, frayed wires out of the body in this pic. Jon.
That's certainly the best yet......excellent
 2. I have nothing buy praise for APC. Luckily I have continued my business account from my old company to my bass enterprise. This means I get preferential rates and it only costs me £9.80 to send a very well packed bass. I have recently sent about 15 with them without incident. If you send items regular get an account with them to save a few quid. I cannot remember what the increased insurance rates are but they are very reasonable. For international I use Parcelforce, the last I sent was to Denmark, it weighed 9kg and cost £42.00 For smaller items I always use Royal Mail either Standard parcels or a signed for service. I must of sent 500-600 items in the past 3 years with them and have never had a problem.
I present the Punk bass On/off switch no volume on tone to bugger round with and 2 strings 1 is missing at the mo.
Well I think this is winning so far unless anyone can beat it before the end of the weekend. Remember there is a prize, modest though it will be , its still a prize.
 4.
'Underground SAI' on Friday St is still the same with old and new speakers crammed to the ceiling still run by the Original SAI guy, Do you remember the Luthier up Carrington Rd? was my first guitar teacher but not very good at either teaching or making
bloody hell 2 people in Chorley play bass.... The so called Luthier / teacher was Dave he moved in the old tailors shop on the corner, I lived across the road in Lorne St. I pass the new SAI about 4 times a day so I suppose I had better look in , he may remember me. Do we know each other.....?
 5. In my teens in Chorley we had Pall Mall Music a converted terraced house crammed to the ceiling with gear and run by guys with beards.....superb shop, service and gear, down the road in Coppull was a cavernous old cinema that was SAI again a cracking shop where I bought a secondhand Yamaha Combo for £230.00 in 1979 !!!!!! I think a guy called Dave Shinn had something to do with both shops..... Does anyone remember the shops......? modern shops just aren't the same.
 6.
I've got to admit I'd be inclined to leave the Westone alone, but that's because I have a soft spot for Matsumoku built basses. Have you thought about a Warmouth neck?
Welcome to the site you have come to the right place........but please don't butcher the Westone they are excellent basses , I sold my 1A to a fellow basschatter a few months ago . When you decide on the electrics I'll be more than happy to help with the diagrams.
 7. As it happens , I spent 2 hours earlier making a black plate and really nice it looked until I rested the soldering iron on it........ So having run out of black perspex had to spend another 2 hours making a gold one which is better. Finished article tomorrow hopefully.
 8.
I like the black one best!
Black it is then....probably he best option as all the hardware will be black, bridge, tuners, knobs etc. Should be finished this evening.
 9. The shellac is finished but I leave it 48 hours before the final cut back and polish. Next job is the scratch plate and is highly technical. Items required for the pattern were 1. A Cherios box....make sure its empty otherwise you get shouted at. 2. Sellotape....a one handed dispenser is always best 3. Scissors Big decision next, either understated black or bling it with a gold mirror jobbie. 10. I would use a Korg Ampworks Bass Unit. The output is stereo and the matching can be switched between amp / line It gives you full eq control The amp and cabinet modeling actually work (you can therefore find a sound that matches your amp / cab setup) The effects are ok After using it with headphones I never practice now with backline gear , it makes your bass sound so good. Whatever you normally play through will sound inadequate after using this unit and headphones. it is rather noisy with some settings but very quiet with others as it uses a noise-gate, and for about £45.00 new its superb. I would recommend anyone to use it for practice.
 11.
I present the Punk bass On/off switch no volume on tone to bugger round with and 2 strings 1 is missing at the mo.
I bet thats easy to play What the back look like ?
 12.
Not actually mine, but quiet possibly the worst bass in existance.
Whats its sound like ? and is that a book-matched maple top....? I think to qualify it must be usable.....sorry mate...
 13.
My current rig...
Looks quite functional, whats the amp ?
 14. Come on folks theres a prize in this one for what I consider the most grungy piece of kit or bass.... Get them pictures in..... and a bump....
 15.
Ask me again when the rent is due...
16. Bloody hell.......you beat me too it If I was closer I'd call round to see the gear. All the best mate......
 17.
That is what I'm suspicious about... I think £5000 is a fair price to shake my hand....
Is that "to shake your hand" or "a shake with your hand" ?....
 18. Its probably worth what he quoted with the case and lead but will probably fetch less as it is pick-up only and so you instantly loose about 98% of your potential customers. I'd say £150.00
 19.
Westone Thunder basses?
Bob on there, I have a soft spot for them and had 2 (a 1A and a Spectrum LX )but sold them when I decided to have a go at this bass building mularky. Next projects will be more like a Spectrum with the "Fender" headstock as I will be using Mighty Mite freless necks, mahogany bodies and Q-Tuner pups. The bass is at the stage of french polishing (shellac) I thought I would do a mix of finishes to see what it looked like. The rear of the bass is poly coated as is the neck for durability. I like shellac as it leaves the beauty of the grain showing and has a sort of "antique" look , plus is easy to repair should the bass be damaged. This has had 4 coats then its left for 24 hours, flatted and then another 4 coats ,flatted and polished. The edge on picture gives a good idea of the different finish / color between polyurethane varnish and shellac. 20. As has already been said good web design and writing code are very time and brain hungry. Have a look at Freewebs You can have free hosting but it will be "yourname.freewebs.com" which is crap and has ad banners but they also do cheap domain hosting and all the site content is web based and templates and no ads if you pay for the premium service. If you pick a good simple template you can have a reasonably good looking site quite easily. You can add video and music and pay dependent on bandwidth and hosting space, I found them quite good. You will be up and running in a day and about £45.00 plus you'll have your own www.********.com which always helps, nothing looks worse in my book than a website name with an extension (ie myspace) as no one will remember it.
 21.
Very cool, I really like the contoured top. I assume that hole will have the electonics and have a covered top?
It will, and will have a rear plate for access to the electronics or battery if I put an EQ expansion control in it. I think the balance will be good as the neck is really thin with a short headstock. The whole bass is about 4 inches shorter than a "Jazz" The whole reason for building it is an exercise into weight saving to see whats possible. The veneer on the headstock is coming off to show the laminated neck. Can anyone tell what the inspiration for the shape is ?
 22. Heres a few more progress pictures. The contouring was really difficult and it gonna have a "slab" type edge to the top It will have a pick guard with cutouts a la Gibson Artiste and I'm going to french polish the top tonight. It currently weighs 2008 grams which is 4lb 12oz in old money I think the total weight will come in around 6lb 4oz pretty light.
 23. Come on folks get them photos posted.... and a bump...
 24.
Wasn't that the whole point of the anti nazi league? Let's face it, if they'd been up to their arses in nazis they wouldn't have been much of a league now would they? Andy
Ah yes...but without the Nazi's they wouldn't have had a cause, so no need for a league, bit self defeating I suppose
 25. All this "porn" is well and good but I feel we need an antidote hence "THE ANTI PORN LEAGUE" bit like the anti nazi league without the Nazi's.... Show us your battered grungy , worn , crap, antiquated wonderments. I may even put a small prize up for the worst item of kit, (it will be small don't expect a bass )
