How do you both have these set up? I'd love to use one on my Source Audio C4 but can't work out the logistics!

I'm trying to use it for saturation, I miss the mid punch thing but I'm working on it... Great value pedal!

Board version #1282651876.1 Added the jive at the end of my chain, but before my preamp. Makes my synths sound bigger and my octaves sound filthy...takes away a bit of this je ne sais quoi mid punch my jazz and sandberg have both got, but it adds a weight and depth that works better in the mix... Thinking a compressor at the beginning may be the final piece of the puzzle 🤔. Would love a wireless midi controller for my C4 and ultrawave, but that seems to be a logistical nightmare...

So this came after an agonising 12 day wait! - A nice not so shiny new JPTR FX Jive! I tried one of these earlier in the year but it was lost on me and returned - since then I've moved to a Mark Bass tube pre which takes pedals much better than what I was using, so thought I'd take another punt! Any current users got any tips? Not looking for high gain stuff, just to spruce up my clean tone even further...

Long shot, but has anyone tried one of these against the markbass vintage pre? I'd love to see how they stack up, love my MB pre, but gas for this just won't budge!

I'm having brilliant results with the mark bass vintage pre! It's not a small pedal, but sounds fantastic. I use the drive to add VERY subtle perceived saturation (not even grit, really) and it just sounds big and present running straight to FOH. The effects loop is a bit of a stupid set up (parallel loop with perma-dry mix), and the switchable drive is a bit of a miss-step as the clean blend is active even with drive disengaged (lower signal volume when dialled towards drive but drive off). but they won't make a difference to you by the sound of it and the clean tone is totally worth the short comings.

TL:DR - Waxing lyrical about a pedal that is hugely misunderstood after FINALLY gaining an understanding and coaxing some great drive sounds out of it (YMMV). Zombie thread revival and long post incoming... but I've had an absolute epiphany with this pedal over the past few days and there's just not a lot of positivity documented so thought I'd spread some love. The Ultrawave seems to generally be met with apathy or negativity, and I think it's maybe just misunderstood (poor marketing campaign being a big factor maybe?) I had one of these about a year ago, wrote it off as digital nonsense and sent it back (worst pedal I've ever owned was mentioned a few times). Ended up re-ordering a few months ago after little luck finding a good gated fuzz and remembering @Quatschmacher had some great mastotron style patches on the community. Downloaded these, and thought if nothing else this covered the price of admission. After some board shake ups I was tempted to move it on, but after seeing the poor re-sale value and limited board space thought I need to stick with it. Turns out; with a lot less effort than expected, you can get some great NORMAL drive sounds! The trick is that you don't NEED to use all of the EQ options and band splitting options available; keep it simple! There's a drive appendix on the Ultrawave page, which details all of the drive engines and what they're best at... and this went a long way to my understanding changing. My pedal now has the following, where previously I hadn't even bothered to change the stock settings (bar 1 anyways). All custom patches except where credited For a very specific Kasabian Clubfoot > Chemical Brothers Block Rocking beats mash up we do. Circle - Mono > stereo > mono Drive, Fuzzy on one "side", trebly TS style the other (Clubfoot) Circle alt - Clean, heavily compressed mid/treble heavy (Block rocking beats) General drives Triangle - Tube drive, fairly dark with a bit of clean mixed in Triangle Alt - Tube/TS style drive mixed with a bit of clean Synthy fuzz Square - @Quatschmacher Mastotron gated fuzz patch Square Alt - Lower gain version of above to feed solo'd octave into That's a lot of functionality and saved board space from a pedal I've previously written off twice. I don't tend to dabble in the crazier aspects and pitch tremolo etc, my C4 covers my synth requirements. I think the problem is that the pedal was pushed heavily on it's crazy off the wall features (I remember basstheworld.com saying they were asked to showcase the crazier elements) when really it should've been pushed as a utility pedal with infinite tone shaping abilities should you need them. I'm happy to share my patches if anyone is struggling with this pedal and scared to move it on, I'll see if I can get some audio samples if anyone cares, and I'm happy to offer any limited experience that I have if anyone desires (although I think this post has exhausted that!) Bought Paddy's markbass vintage pre. Stand up gent, exactly as discribed, quick and well packaged dispatch and even offered to help when I struggled with the functionality (which was nothing to do with him at all). Thanks for your help Paddy!

Mind me asking what you use the ultrawave for, Fretmeister? I love the stock gated fuzz setting, but past that I struggle with this one

From what I remember it had the option of turning the buffer off. All effects worked as usual, just saved a lot of tap dancing 🤣

I've lost count of how many variations this board has had, but here's the latest... Changed the hotone ampero II stomp out for a Markbass Vintage pre. The Hotone is a fantastic bit of kit, but I'm in a permanent love/hate relationship with digital stuff, and I'm currently on the wrong side of it. That, and option paralysis is a big thing for me; if I can tweak, I will forever question my decisions on which setting is better. Was also sick of standing at an expression pedal, so thought I'd bring back the tap tempo for the C4 instead of the hotone soul press ii for the ampero stomp. Still doesn't seem the most accurate, but we'll see. Time wi tell on the markbass. Sounds good through headphones, but I'm not convinced it's my flavour of analogue at this point...

I believe there's a big difference - parallel processing, more effects, much higher DSP and processing power, footswitches and midi capability. Hotone have done a comparison chart for the II and previous gen, which the shares its tech with the mini. I haven't had the last gen, the lack of parallel processing turned me off it, my comparison is to the HX stomp, which seems to be the standard in this category.

I have the Ampero Stomp II and it's fantastic. Not quite as feature packed as the HX stuff, but that doesn't sound like it'll be an issue. To my ears, the models and sound quality are definitely an improvement, and the UI on it is the best I've used on a multi fx. The compressors are good, as are the amp sims. I've gigged it several times without issue and a great FOH sound. As it happens, I may be putting it up for sale as I go round the multi fx/individual analogue pedal round about...

Following as also in the market for a new preamp - Do you have any specific feature requirements? (Aux in/Phones out, Cab sim or LPF/HPF etc?)

Glad it's worked out well for you, Al! I'm still using mine every week without any issues. The cable tone function is great, I've not had a single drop out (bar the lighting incident, but I do wonder if that was something else now), and I quite often go for a run through the crowd at shows. The charger case is the real MVP though! Rigid enough to keep them safe, and ensures plenty of charge, just remember to press the button on the front to initiate charging, otherwise you'll have a dead wireless set in no time!
