1. Finally got round to wall mounting some, still got a few in the spare room though Not pictured are 4 on single stands and 7 below the BC Rich. Not bad going fitting this lot in a 13' x 13' room.
2. For those that are skint, have Ray GAS and don't mind different names on basswood bodies Thomann listed MM style basses in their Harley Benton range today. Under £130 gets you the active 4 string http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_mm_84a_sb_deluxe_series.htm And £140 for the active 5'er http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_mm_84a_sb_deluxe_series.htm As they're not in stock yet there's no reviews, maybe somebody will chance £84 on a passive model just to test the build quality.
3. Saw Pete Way spew over a security fella once. To be fair I think he'd drank 3 Special Brews in 20 minutes. Never missed a beat Singer years back was on a diet of Cheesy Wotsits and Wild Turkey. It wasn't a pretty sight.
4. They were the 1st 2 examples of alder grain Google threw up on an alder wood grain image search
5. Looking at his past feedback simon020166 has been selling an awful lot of Harley Bentons. I counted 3 LH acoustic basses all sold for £87. I think you've unearthed who's buying up the "dekos" AT,or at least some of them I zoomed in on the neck pocket, what makes you think it's not alder ? http://www.wood-database.com/lumber-identification/hardwoods/red-alder/ http://www.kneguitars.com/woods.php
6. I recently bought a b-stock Harley Benton bass and I think the reason it was returned was a bent tuner, can't find anything else wrong. Could have returned it no problem, as others have said the warranty and customer service are great with Thomann.
7. Looking Braw Stevie. Followed your suggestion but the young fella I'm working with chickened out. But then he only carries a 20 oz hammer, whits that gonna dae ?
8. They always had a situations vacant link but it was on the company info page.By my count at least 50 more folk have been employed in the last 6 months. And that's with the failing euro ! A friend in the States told me last night it's £4 cheaper to buy my HB-60 and get it delivered to the US it's even worse when he lived in Greece, same bass was 279 euro compered to the 240 euro he'll pay now. Sorry for going off topic.
9. A hollow body arrived last Thursday and I fancied putting flats on it. Lo and behold Jo had a set of Chromes for sale.1 " can I buy them ? " email sent and a " of course you can ." reply and the deal was done. Easy purchase, strings arrived today. If only everything in life was so simple Cheers Jo, you're a star.
10. No be the first time Mr Giblin's selt a bass Stevie Saw the GP the night,he was talking Carpal Tunnel but no jab until he know where it's needed Been a bugger swinging the hammer last few weeks,3 times it's slipped out the hand. Keeps the boys on their toes Looking forward to some photos Stevie.
11. AT It's very close to sounding like the Classic 4.BTW I got the bridge Vol and Tone positions reversed. I last had a hollow body 32 years back, a Commodore I think, so I really wasn't sure what too expect. Certainly the pickups on this aren't held in with nails like the Commodore's were I'm hoping to get a Cortison injection in my right wrist tomorrow so haven't had much time to explore this one but from the little time I've had it's impressive.More time and a playaround with controls will pay off. Compared to the RB414 this is the better bass, well it is for me.It's an easier bass to get comfy with.I haven't found a position on the 414 where to put my right hand whereas with this there's more options. I've ordered the nylon from Status an thought about trying a pick but there's no way I can grip a pick ATM so that's on hold. Between the HB and the Peavey it was a damn fine weekend.Get my hand working tomorrow and it'll be a great week
12. A week before it was due in stock I got my shipping text from Thomann and 54 ? hours later it was delivered to Scotland It being the HB-60-VW. Out the box this wee beauty needed nothing done bar a tune.Binding is well done,no flaws in the finish,no sharp or raised frets and a very comfortable low action.I've no idea what strings they used but they're decent enough just kinda bright for my taste. As chance would have it the following morning BC'er fingerz was selling a set of Chromes so I'll be trying both them and Status Hot Wire nylon on it.No crackles or hum from the electrics. The pot arrangement is slightly strange , neck Vol is on the lower horn and bridge Vol at the end of the F hole with the tone towards the tail piece. Playing wise it's sound, the C shape neck is very comfortable but I reckon I'll need more time with it to find the right height on a strap. Fellow BC'er theplumber seemed quite taken with it yesterday, noodling away as we talked bass. And talk bass we did. As he's got himself something nice coming,I'll leave spilling the beans to him,he was moving on a Peavey When Peavey UK was closing last year theplumber, jonobolton and myself all bought Foundation bodies, with varying success. Mines had been boxed unwrapped so had scratches, jono's if I mind right was a 5 string body with 1 pickup included and theplumbers was fully loaded and mint.Originally I planned on fitting a Millennium neck but that went on a Zodiac so went for a T-40 neck instead, jono sourced a Foundation neck and Stevie used a Millennium neck. Here's my Foundations,Stevie's has joined the clan So how does the Millennium neck rate against the Foundation neck ? Simple,it does great. Both my Foundations suffered from neck bow,as did the T-45,Dyna and Patriot, once corrected though they were fine. This took more than just adjusting the truss rod, they needed clamped up. The Foundation neck pockets weren't a snug fit either. Here's the 5'er compared to the one using the Millennium,it's the same gap both sides of the 5 and same on the black one. Not a great deal of difference in dimensions between the Foundation and Millennium with only .4mm at the nut, depth is where they differ. Again not by much, Millennium is 19.6mm at the 3rd fret and 21.2mm at 12th with the Foundation being 20.5mm at 3rd but 24.9mm at 12th.These are tiny amounts so it might be I've not got the set up right on the stock Foundations or it may be down to slightly different finishes on the necks. All I can say is the Foundation with the Millennium neck plays brilliant. Cheers Stevie yer a star. Now I've still a Foundation body with 1 pickup and and a T-40 to get built
13. £238 winning bid !! Jeez that was a crazy low price. It's a shame the hits companies take trying to get established. Hope the buyer appreciates what a steal they got.
14. That's absolutely brilliant. Be great if more of us could have those calls instead of " Err I broke it. "
15. Silent bass no more. Man am I glad to here that. And for around £80,that just makes it better
16. Can't see me ever buying one but I like them alot. Refreshing bit of honesty from the builders too regarding the origins, might be made anywhere in Asia but with those Japanese fellas doing a reassemble the QC will be second to none. I'm watching the quilted maple one in the auction,£225 with 18 hours to go. Somebody's getting a great bargain soon
17.
You need an even bigger couch.
That should be a new thread Brother. Make a change from all those " How many basses !!! " threads. I see it now. Question " How many basses do I need ? " Answer " If there's room on your couch for you and your basses then you need more basses"
18. Here's the Peavey couch. Bit of a squeeze that one,19 Peaveys Having got rid of the 3 seater couch yesterday it was time for a photo, this time Harley Bentons.
19. I think it's quite plausible 100 people are checking frequently. I know from the 2Harley Benton guitars FB pages, the owners forum, BC and TB as well as Bassic.ch there's an awful lot of folk actively seeking dekos. Once you allow for 3 million customers making nearly £400 million in sales last year,do you really think Thomann need to "invent" dekos to boost their Google rating ?
20. Totally agree with Painy. I bought a b-stock PJ4 the other month, very decent bass. And I like the weird tort scratchplate, still not rubbed through the same one on the JB-75 either
21. It is a bit strange what makes a deko. Wrong label on my acoustic,mis-matched wood making the body of my PB-20 and I've yet to work out what was wrong with the JB-75 But my PJ 4 HTR b-stock came with a bent tuner.
22. Kristo I haven't played any of these as I stick to bass but some of the Harley Benton custom line acoustics have the wooden bodies others have suggested would help. This dreadnought has a cedar top with mahogany body for £209, no pickup though I'm afraid. http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_cld_30scm_solidwood.htm The mahogany top and body models go for around £150 with Fishman preamps. Not back in stock till next month. Here's a list of their steel strung acoustics to look through, might find one that works for you. http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_steel_string_acoustic_guitars.html
