1.
I've ended up with just 3 basses: Tokai EB3 - medium scale Epiphone Viola - short scale Gretsch Junior Jet II - short scale All 2nd hand around the £150 mark. As stated elsewhere they are very comfortable to play & no dead spots. I'm happy & would encourage others to try out a shorty. I use flatwound on all & get the soft, warm tone I enjoy. I accept they wouldn't be to eveyone's taste but I also like marmite.
I have a Junior Jet ii and it is an excellent little bass imo.
2. Loving that SB350.....my kind of bass that.
3. Love those white P and J basses.....they look cool!
4. After having had a very long break from the music scene and making a return I only hope I am still able to rock out at 60. When I last played bass I didn't have the aches pains or worries that I have now Blue. Glad to see you still enjoying it, I'm 42 and hope that I can still manage to lug all the gear about but I do look for much lighter gear nowadays. All the best to you Paul
5. Loving that Burns.....it looks like Snake Plissken used it in Escape from New York P.S. i'm sure the Hello Kitty bass has its place in rock n roll history.....somewhere lol
6. A big Lizzy and Phil Lynott fan and definitely one of the reasons I play bass. Much missed still.....the Life Live album is superb!
7.
I just have the Gibson SG Std.
I just can't help but love the SG shape.....how does It sound with those strings?
8. I think my concerns aren't where its made as there are some really good instruments coming from all factories nowadays but it just seems as though Epi can have some inconsistencies when it come to Quality Control. I definitely think i'd have to try before i bought one.
9. Hi All, I am really drawn to this bass but am a little put off by Epi quality control which is sometimes lacking. Has anyone owned or tried one of these and how would you rate it? I am aware that the sounds from the instrument aren't going to be super versatile so really my main worries are if they are well built for a budget bass. Cheers.....Paul
10. Nothing in the diary until October
11.
I have played short scale exclusively for a few years... until now (selling up all my bass gear). Found it a lot easier to play with my small-ish hands and there are more good quality short scales out there so that tone doesn't have to suffer. Please excuse the shameless plug for my ACG Tefano... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/241341-acg-tefano-beautiful-short-scale-bass/
That is a lovely bass.....i would buy a good few ss's if i had enough £££'s
12. I am more than happy to Champion budget gear.....in most cases it does exactly what you ask of it. Yes it's very nice to have top end gear but imho the quality of lower priced equipment is increasingly catching up with the equipment costing £££ so not essential at all. That doesn't mean i don't want better gear but it won't make me play any better.
13. Hi Karl, I did the same having a break from playing for 20 ish years.....but I'm back playing again (if you can call it that lol) and enjoying it. Welcome to the forum. Paul P.S. nice to see a few Londoner' on here
14. Some really nice looking instruments on here.....I'd like to try all of them! Ha we need a short scale meet.
15.
That's even worse! That lets the website put me off from wanting to visit in the first place - and yet if I was in there they might get my custom.
Completely agree.....its local for me so not an issue but for those who are looking for the first time or from afar it would be offputting.
16.
Wunjo seem very well regarded, but I'm not sure about some of their pricing - I've been looking at some pedals and noticed that they are selling the Darkglass B3K and Duality at over £100 more than everywhere else!
You really need to check the shop out as the website doesn't compare to shop prices from my experience.
17. Great stuff.....never mind where you posted it.....lovely bass and great service = great NBD
18.
Well yes, but I was thinking for bass-playing you'd need a bra that doesn't deliberately cause chafing.
Nobody likes chafing of any kind be it at shoulder height or lower!
19. A non slip suede backing is really good and definitely some padding. Tooled leather on a strap looks fantastic.....you should make up some samples for us to see?
20. So what short scales would you all add to your collection? I really would like an SG but ££'s don't permit at the mo, I really like the look of those Fender Modern Player Jazz basses too so might try one of those as these seem really good value. I've even considered the Hagstrom HB4 but haven't seen many reviews so am a bit put off but it looks very good.
21. My little Gretsch it's only a budget bass but i love it. I think any other instrument i buy will be short scale too.....
