Another couple of days on from my purchase and as the new "Zingy" DR's are getting broke in the tone is just getting better and better....... !! The neck hasn't moved since I set it up (I've had 3 USA 62 Stack-knob re-issues and they all had rubber neck syndrome) I've got to suspect that as with the legendary inconsistency of Fender basses the squires will be no different, I've maybe just got lucky and found a belter ? I've always had a snobby phobia of anything made from Basswood...... maybe in the modern world of mass production it's a better alternative to poor quality unseasoned Alder / Ash etc..... Modern production within big companies can't support having wood lying around drying for years. Go to somewhere like Overwater and their drying rooms have had lumps of wood in there for years and years waiting for the right customer / bass combination. Why do modern Fenders (and lots of other basses) have graphite support rods in the necks ? it's because the wood was a tree a week ago, still soaking wet, as a result won't stay in one place !! Why do some manufacturers offer chambering to reduce weight ? again (IMHO) it's because good quality properly dried body wood is so rare / expensive and time consuming to produce, they need to use poorer grades of heavey wood. As far as changing the decal...... that's not something i'd do Anybody worth impressing wouldn't be fooled....... For those people who would be fooled..... their opinion wouldn't count. I guess you're only fooling yourself........ I'd rather impress the hell out of people that I can get such a great tone out of a cheap instrument ! All just my Humble Opinion you understand..... Hey up !! Just bought a Squire Classic vibe 60's Jazz (the white one) I've got to say i'm blown away for a instrument that I got for £239 ! I've owned many Fenders, a number of Custom shops (including a 66 Mark Kendrick Masterbuild) and this piece of Chinese Basswood is AMAZING !!! The neck feels every bit as good as any Jazz at any price of any vintage i've ever played, the fit & finish is virtually flawless, the fretwork is faultless. Took it to a gig last night and used it for a couple of songs....... hit the spot !!!!! Tonally it's big and growly with loads of weight and thump, I've set it up with 45 - 105 DR Fatbeams and it plays as well as anything i've owned (the change of strings made a hell of a difference in fairness) (Sadowsky's Fodera's, Alembics, you name it) No i've not had too much Christmas Spirit........ it's just an unbelievable bass at a stupid price ! Can't wait to put it into the hands of some of my Bass player mates..... they'll not believe it I'll most likely end up swapping the Pickups and wiring..... simply because I have to believe that in producing an instrument of this quality at a price of £239 compromises must have been made in this area...... Regards Mark

Hi...... I've had 5 Flea Basses and 11 Stingrays !!!! Few instruments can play as well as a fettled Modulus Flea Bass..... however tonally they can be a bit thin in a band, I've struggled to get a Flea to carry any weight to the D & G (using some of the best amplification out there) Ironically...... even in the context of a Red Hot Chili Peppers Tribute i've found the instrument wanting, all that said.... I'd have another at the drop of a hat !! A good Stingray without question provides a more usable tone.....
I have a 84 (I think) Fender Elite II, Black body, White pickguard with Rosewood fret board that I will be selling soon. Gauging if there is any real interest here before fleabay. I will post lots of pics if there is interest. There is a dink on the top of the body that has dented the finish but no paint flaking and a number of scratches (one long) and buckle rash on the reverse. Usual minor knocks on the headstock etc. All 3 control knobs are original, with no damage to the rubber ridges, machine heads, bridge and pickups are all clean and look original, only thing I think are not original are the strap buttons. Also a tatty but serviceable case (not original). Sounds great. I bought this one to ensure I was happy with the neck profile and it's perfect, so looking to buy a 70's or Special that have the same neck profile. Looking for £535. Neil
Shucks.... wish i'd bought that one one Ebay that went for £350

Hells Bells !!! I actually prefer the Squire P basses..... Think the CS Jazz just edges the Classic vibe, but geck it costs 10x more, i'd have to question if you'd notice the difference live

Cheers
Aphex do power supplies but the battery life is very good so i've never felt I needed one. I put it first in my signal chain, seems to work well there Mark -
I may be interested in teh Aphex Big Bottom Aural Jobbie. Do you have any clisp of what it does exactly? Cheers Dan
Hi Dan, i'm afraid I don't have what you've requested...... sorry there is plenty written about the pedal on the cybernet, it's really adds weight and authority without boom and adds sparkle and clarity without glassyness or harshness....... Top bit of kit ATB Mark -
Hi Guys, I've recently converted to the confusing but entertaining world of all in one digital effects (Line 6 Floor Pod) No way are the overall results as good as my pedal board but it's a convenient all in one solution to live effects and home practice ! Slightly different take....... I have a punch factory (my 2nd) and I too have found it's very subtle...... however in my last band I used one with avariety of basses and amps and our sound guy could always tell when it was engaged !! Maybe the audience will get the benefit more than you stood 3 foot away. for anyone unhappy with their punch factory, try listening through a good pair of headphones, the difference is much more pronounced Regards Mark

Guys, to my ears and hands the Sadowsky Jazz is the ultimate Jazz Bass - Simple as that !! Guitar Guitar have a healthy stock of Metro Basses which are generally the equal of the USA Instruments in my experience. It's not like Lakland where the skylines are a pale imitation of the USA made instruments Mark
"the previous own had mine sprayed Shoreline Gold" Ah, the one from e-bay with the Sadowsky circuit - absolutely gorgeous! I bought the same seller's '75/'76 original Jazz Bass a few years ago - he's a great guy with excellent taste and a penchant for lovely Jazzers! I've a feeling he's on here with us at BC.
Yeah that could be me...... That 75 has had a few owners after me, can't work out why ? I had all the mods done to it anyway..... That 75 Re-issue is one I'd love to have back..... For the Current Owners info it used to be Black Loz, not sure if we did a deal on an original 75 / 76 or if it was another owner, I did have a 4 bolt 72 Black Block & Bound sprayed gold that I sold a while ago So many basses so little time.... As far as the OP..... those New Mex 70's are very good for the money, I agree with the reference made that they feel "vintage" Cheers Mark
