1. If anyone needs persuading, these are great little studio monitors.
2. 2x10 now sold.
3. As discussed elsewhere, played two gigs in Milan on Friday and Saturday (13/14th October). Hot and sweaty packed houses. I'm home now...back to reality. It was a load of fun.
4. I actually thought DV247 were based in the UK, so that threw me, but I guess they can probably ship from anywhere. Anyhow, to get back on point, your contract of sale is with the seller, not UPS. DV247 should be refunding you or expediting another bass to you. Also you shouldn't need to set up an account with a courier to be able to track a parcel; they should just be able to give you a shipping/tracking number and you should be able to just plug that into the appropriate online track and trace website.
5. I have a soft spot for these. The design and build is top-notch but for one thing; a distinct lack of rosewood board availability. There never seemed to be any in black with a dark board.
6. eBay is your friend. You'll probably find that buying from the US, even including shipping, is still as cheap as buying in this merry island.
7. Rhythm deaf? Like Adam Clayton? *Now, now, before you go shooting off, I'm being sarcastic. It was in fact Mr Bono who said, 'Adam can't even clap in time,' and I just have a tendency to agree with him.
8. So many threads like this where the OP has either just joined BC or has been lurking for years. One post, then the member doesn't bother to take up the thread again. No closure.
9.
Unfortunately neither of those come in a short scale, and I have chronic hand/wrist trouble, so that's off the cards unfortunately. This is the only bass I'm able to play comfortably, and the only one that's kept me being able to play tbh
You didn't mention short scale was an issue and you're wrong, Spector do make a short-scale model. You still haven't said what this mystery bass is either.
10.
Why not sell find another bass that you are totally happy with?
My thoughts too. Potentially, you're looking at throwing £££ at replacing the guts of your existing bass (whatever it is and because it plays nicely) and in truth you're probably never going to be 100% happy. You're saying you want active EQ, thump, decent pick tone, brittle slap etc. Just buy a Stingray or a Euro Spector NS. Job done really.
11. If slap is dead, then there is a god.
12. Coming to a bookstore near you in Autumn 2018. More here: http://www.rushisaband.com/blog/2017/10/07/4981/Geddy-Lees-Big-Beautiful-Book-of-Bass-coming-Fall-2018
13. Just a weenie bump here. 'XTC: This Is Pop' debuts on Sky Arts this evening. It'll no doubt feature on catch-up services.
14. I wrote a Christmas song a few years ago. I could loan you that. It's got everything.
15. Location/Venue: A party at Hope Cottage, Egham Your age: 15? 16? Your bass: I played rhythm guitar. I honestly have no idea what it was. Your amp: A borrowed Carlsboro Scorpion. The set list (some of it): I have a recording of the set. All originals. Titles included 'Woggle Your Bunkum', 'Let's Go Disco!', 'Underpants Are Naff', 'Rosie'. Interestingly enough, Gerry Cott (Boomtown Rats) and Steve Lillywhite were standing about six feet away from us for the whole set. Steve was local. His sister Claire was lush.
16. Not sure whether this is a topic for General or Off Topic. A couple of weeks ago, our singer raised the topic of hiring a plugger to get us airplay of some kind. Last night it came up again, specifically this place was mentioned: http://www.plugginbaby.com. At this point, I kind of sculked off into a shadowy corner of our rehearsal room. The plugger he mentioned offers three packages ranging from £150 to a staggering £350 a month, obviously with no assured success rate and little in the way of tracking what the business is actually doing to get your music out there. I had a look through their website earlier and just saw a lot of bands with great hair that I'd never heard of, getting airplay on stations I'd never heard of. I texted our singer and politely declined joining in on this little venture citing I have basses and holidays to pay for. Anyhow, as we have a Planet Rock DJ on these boards (and Planet Rock is one of the stations the plugger cites as being on their list), I'd be curious whether Darren would care to weigh in with his experiences and whether plugging works in any capacity. I just searched the Planet Rock playlists too, several dates, several times and I knew every band that had airplay. Not one unknown. Paul
17.
With your background in Rock and fair collection of basses it would have been nice to hear you give a talk even if it was just on the tribute side of the music. You must have some great stories of gigs too. You've played a few first class one Gary. Dave
Years ago, I used to help out in my mate's CD store in Bracknell; there was a guy there who regaled me about his past gigging experience (he was a great singer) and one time tells me a story about a Kiss pinball machine. Years later (many years later), I hear Gary telling the same story. Cogs turn in my head. It was a surreal moment that both Gary and my mate Mikey were both in the same place at the same time sharing the same experience.
18.
Thanks for your response ... maybe next time you connect the XLR you could try see if the master volume(s) affect the XLR(s) ? Could be a deciding factor choosing this pre over the RBI ... any other observations over these two preamps would be most welcome cheers Si
Will do. I'm doing a radio show this Thursday and overdubs on the 18th. Will have an answer then.
19. When I recor
I noticed this GED2112 pre doesn’t have a separate XLR DI level control like the RBI .. is this XLR DI output level fixed or does it run of the master volume control ?
When I recorded, I just altered the output with the pad button on the rear panel. To be honest, I never really gave it much consideration at the time, I just got positivity from the engineer. In answer to your question, I'm not sure how the XLR output levels are controlled.
20.
Yup, I love so much of Mick's solo work and Polytown. I played on an album with Steve Jansen a few years back, but we didn't get to meet
Torn, Karn and Bozzio. Seriously. This should have been huge.
21.
Hi Nancy! Those three records are all big influences on my music - very well spotted! If you delve into my back catalogue you find a couple of collaborators that David Sylvian and I share (BJ Cole & Theo Travis) and a lot more music that incorporates in some obvious and some less obvious ways his influence
With Japan, it was very much a case of diminishing returns...I adored them early on but the longer it went on, the less engaged I felt. I profess more of a connection with Mick Karn than the aforementioned Mr Batt, but I did connect big time with his Gone To Earth, I've lost count of the times it's been on at home...he has the ability to create an immense soundscape, which isn't to say his brother, Richard or Mick don't have an immense extracurricular back catalogue.
22.
Good to hear, looked at this, but I am not a rackmount guy. Hate/proud to tell you but a dUg pre amp pedal is in production it'll have a tuner, mute, compressor and dUg sound with fixed crossover points for the distortion circuit so not as tweakable as the amp by any means, and it should be out within the year. His will fit lovely in the FX loop of my Form Factor Audio BI1000 amp with other pedals going in the front Just have both!
I saw a short video about the dUg, I'm sure at some stage it'll be part of my arsenal, I run a floorboard too for certain applications where amps aren't required. Tiptop!
23. I'm a few weeks in here...I've rehearsed with it, I've gigged it and last weekend recorded with it. I know I use the term 'in all honestly' and the word 'honestly' an awful lot, but honestly (there, I said it), the only way that I'd consider a different pre-stage unit would only be if Tech21NYC put a dUg pre-amp into production, which at this juncture seems unlikely. On a day to day basis, I've wired the unit externally as per post #5 on this thread and the unit feeds one side of a (Matrix) power amp which I now run in bridged-mono mode. Suffice I am very pleased. It took a bit of tweaking; but in the above configuration, the drive level effectively becomes the unit's output and it's a case of blending in the deep channel's saturation and output level to get an agreeable tone. I'm tending to run the GED-2112 with the drive channel's blend at 75% (so 75% Sansamp/25% DI bass), with both the mid-shift and the treble in their full-on positions. I'll adjust the bass and gain settings in accordance with the bass I'm using or room I'm playing in. It's VERY easy to dial up great tone. At the weekend I recorded with it with the external cabling out, XLRs into two channels...to be honest (there, I said it again), I could have just had my mother, hearing aids out, twiddle things and it would have sounded great. It's a blindingly good pre-amp. Blindingly good. Buy with confidence.
24. Just to weigh in here, it was a good day. I have to say, I enjoyed the Steve Lawson event immensely and profess I'd never even heard a note of his before the day; musically it reminded me a lot (and I'm uncertain whether this is a good or bad thin to say!) of David Sylvian's Gone To Earth, Flux and Mutability, Approaching Silence material. I will be investigating more. Some nice basses on show...I fall a little more in love with Gary's reverse Thunderbird every time I see it. The bass with the Pacman LEDs was a delight. There was a really nice 5-string (an Alpha), I think it was Peds. Reminded me of a design from Bud LeCompte (who used to be on the old alt.bass newsgroup and here, or Bassworld, for a while too).
25. Ultimately, it's a lot of money for a 2x10 and 4x10. I'd rather use it to get a Barefaced. P
