started playing bass a year ago, although its hard with 3 young children to get practice time. i had 1 lesson after 6 months in which i learnt loads from but i am struggling to get anywhere decent, i start to learn songs and then get bored and start a new one, i did not bother with learning scales or properly using two fingers to pluck the strings. i find myself now learning to use two fingers and have just decided to lean the bass scales which have made it much easier to learn the notes on the frets.songs i learnt are Chic, i want your love, stevie wonder i wish, motorhead ace of spades, stones under my thumb etc and other bits and bobs, i have tried to learn miss you nice and sleazy but struggle. Whay should i do? learn scales and finish a song completely? as i learn 3 quarters and move on, any ideas on how i could improve my playing, songs, scales etc anything would be great as i am not getting anywhere fast apart from buying bass guitars., help

thanks for this i will take a look, as a kid i loved DP and RB was my idol until i saw how pathetic he behaved, Cannot stand him. favourite album was the gold made in japan album but they never seemed to be able to recreate that sound to a tee. Last time i saw blackmore his playing was disjointed and boring.

i checked thorman out after reading about them on here - ordered bass late on saturday 10th jan, recieved 16th, packaged really well and £100 cheaper than uk shops, will def order from them again. the thorman premises is massive so they shift loads stock and there will always be the odd cock up

thanks for the replys, i have bit the bullet and ordered the esp 5 string fretless from thorman, told the mrs it was 250 but still only 320 plus free delivery. going to but some black flats on as suggested

looking to maybe try or buy a fretless bass - i play rock, and enjoy disco funk stuff. wondering if the fretless gives of a particular tone that suits a certain genre, do u think u can get a good meaty bass sound for disco funk etc, i am learning daft punk get luck, which is easy i know but do u think a fretless tone would sound weird )i know this was played on a 5 string fretted), i like bernard rodgers as well and have a musicman sub i love but fancy trying a fretless
