1. Smooth Hound Wireless Guitar/Bass System Bought New this year as a first foray into wireless but I just cannot get used to having no lead (strange but true!) Works perfectly and with absolutely no interference, it's done several gigs and the (AAA) batteries still almost full. Also included is the recommended female/female connector and a suitable neoprene MP3 case for if you prefer to use it as a body pack rather than straight into your instrument. Just not my "thing". Collection only I'm afraid due to very busy day-job. Based in Nottingham M1-J26 (5 mins from IKEA).
2. Like new - bought for practise but just never used! Comes with instructions, gig bag, foot controller & lead. Collection only (as I'm very busy with day job) from Nottingham (5 mins from Ikea/M1-J26) No trades thanks.
3. Sandberg Electra VS4 (like) brand new condition. I bought this brand new a year or so ago as a backup but just never needed to use it as I get much more guitar work these days. It is in absolutely pristine condition (still has the plastic on the pickguard) & currently strung with rotosound flats. Decent new gig also bag included! Plek'd at factory. Would rather not post this as I am very busy with daytime work but I get around the country every weekend on gigs so mutual meet up may be possible or collection from Nottingham (very close to M1 J26 so let your Mrs wander round IKEA and come for a tryout and a brew!). Great bass for the money - seem to have disappeared from everywhere now! Any questions, please feel free to get in touch. No trades I'm afraid.
4.
Well, if you like P basses, a Jazz might be a way to branch out. In the £2k range you should also be looking at Overwater J styles if you ask me.
I've got a beautiful Overwater Custom Jazz in the "For Sale" section of this site. Exactly as Trevor R says and with a slightly bigger neck profile than a standard jazz. It's also £300 cheaper than the 2 (used & lower spec'd) Jazz basses currently advertised on the Overwater official site. http://newbass.myshopify.com/collections/pre-owned-basses
5. I have the sunburst/black hardware version of this and it's a great bit of kit for the money. I've currently got it strung with flats. At the time, I also played the "J" version which was also nice.
6. Beautiful one-off (as far as I'm aware) custom jazz 4 string. Ash body (difficult to tell if it's 1 or 2 piece but will say 2 for safety's sake!) with highly figured, flamed maple top. Stunning 1 piece birds-eye maple neck w/ebony fretboard and bass clef inlays at 12th fret. There's a small mark on the fretboard here but nothing that detracts from playing etc. Overwater custom silent/ghost coil pickups. John east active-passive buffered preamp. Quality Hipshot hardware throughout. Neck profile is slightly more "P" than "J" but not quite full 60s P width etc... Absolutely "as new" condition and comes with Hiscox "lite flight" case. Really amazing, pro-level instrument - plays sounds amazing. It's just "not for me" and it deserves to be loved/played regularly. £1700 ono (I may be up for trades, please PM if you want to discuss this). Collection or mutual meet-up only. Thanks for looking.
7. That's fantastic David, I have a "matching" limelight '63 P Bass on exactly the same colour scheme and it too, is great!
8. Fender Japan have never stopped producing but because they tend to be produced "under license" rather than by fender themselves, there's certain restrictions as to who can distribute them (and in turn, where they tend to be retailed). You can still order them direct from Japan using the rakuten site as well as other online retailers. They nearly always come with great hardware and pickups but oddly need the wiring, pots and sockets etc upgrading. A friend of mine lives in Tokyo and often tells me of the wonderful goodies he spots in stores over there.
9. Hi, are you looking for anything specific in trade? Cheers, Steve
10. Ok...Sorry but how do I post pics to a reply like this?
11. Thanks everyone. I'm guessing that the 43-104 set are typically best for P Bass so will maybe order some this week. I am also very conscious about hijacking Gadgie's thread so apologies for that.
12. Hi Gadgie, I found it hard not to comment on this thread as I own both a Bravewood and a Limelight so will try to give some feedback on both. The Bravewood is actually a Stratocaster guitar and not a bass as I have a regular weekly gig in a working soul band so it gets quite a lot of use. I also didn’t order it specially, it just appeared on the Bravewood site in early 2014 so I snapped it up as I needed a guitar fairly quickly. I think it may have been either an uncollected/cancelled order or maybe he builds a model of his own choosing during quiet times? However, how glad I am that I did buy it! It is hands down the best “stratocaster” I have ever played. As far as I can tell, it is pretty close to an original-spec early 60s strat except for the addition of a slightly flatter radius fretboard, two-way truss rod and more modern Dunlop 6105 frets. The aging looks convincing though I probably would have ordered something a little less extreme but this isn’t a deal breaker. The main thing is the feel of the guitar. From day one, it just felt “right” to me. Considering the equivalent model would cost £3k+ from the big F, I think it’s also very good VFM. I think a special ordered Bravewood is around the £1600 mark but I could be wrong and remember these are made from “scratch” and not generic parts as would a similar priced “Nash Guitar” be. As for the limelight, I wanted a “Jamerson-type” spec P Bass and my Black/Tort 1963 RI was for sale on the limelight site. Again, a lovely bit of kit. The finish is much thinner on the Limelight than the Bravewood and he has obviously used a different process for the “ageing”. Limelights are made from Fender-licensed parts and I think maybe some of them are made “upcycled” bodies/necks from older guitars but I cannot be sure of this. The only thing I didn’t like about the Limelight was that the bridge/saddles were too tarnished for my liking and they were difficult to adjust resulting in one or two shearing off. In the end, I replaced all of them with brass replacements at a cost of about £10 so not a problem at all! I think the limelight is potentially my favourite bass – at least when I eventually find the “right” flatwound strings for my liking! As a side note: I’m thinking of trying La Bella Deep Talkin’ Flats next so any advice on these from anyone reading would be much appreciated! Pound for pound, the Bravewood I think has the edge on quality/build etc but then it is twice the price of the Limelight. Both are fantastic instruments and IMHO both are worth the cost so it’s down to how much you want to pay! I have no intention of selling either! In regards to re-sale value: I can imagine that, to the right people (i.e. those “in the know” on forums such as this or “The Fretboard” etc ) both Bravewood and Limleight will have good re-sale value but on the street or EvilBay, gumtree etc, most regular punters will simply see these as “Fakes” and want the “Real Thing”. But then, we all “know”…….don’t we? Cheers, Steve
13. "Take 2 bags to the gig?....Not me, I just wash & go!" Seriously though, I've checked out the Mono M80 double version and it's bl**dy massive so I can imagine seriously weighty with 2 basses inside! I can, however vouch for the quality of Mono bags as I use the Vertigo (single) bass bag! I think Thomann do a double bag too!
14. Hi, What sort of thing are you interested in trade Wise? Cheers
15. No, but I'll take one this evening when I get home. Thanks
16. Hi, Can anybody give me some advice on what is the best tool for adjusting the truss rod on this bass (Sandberg Electra VS4)? Other than telling you to make sure you are using the “correct” tools for the job, Sandberg’s website doesn’t give much clue! It does say however, that the relevant tools should have been provided with the bass – needless to say, they were not! It could just be my eyes, but it looks a bit unusual and I didn’t want to start poking allen-keys in there till after I’d asked around here. Any advice greatly appreciated. Cheers, Steve
17. I have this exact bass (only in sunburst) and can also vouch for the quality! Easily comparable to any mid-range Fender, very playable and sounds great! Also, feels a little more smaller/manageable due to the 6 bolt neck join.
18. Thanks everyone for your suggestions! Having read through them, I think Graham’s Behringer V Amp & quality headphones suggestion might be the route to go down as that way, it’s total silence and Mrs B won’t complain at all! Fortunately, there’s a very good PA place round the corner from where I live so will try and pick up some good headphones on the way back after work tonight. I really don’t know what we ever did before online communities!
19. Hi, Not sure if this has ever been covered before but can anyone recommend their best methods of practise at home (specifically tackling noise related issues in the house)? My practise area/spare room is directly above my 13 month old son’s room and when he’s in bed, even the quietest amount of racket from my “smaller” (80w/15” Driver) amp is too much for him. What I’m looking for really is recommendations for quality sounding practise amps that I can use either upstairs or downstairs (we live in a three storey house) without disturbing him/the wife or the neighbours but still sound nice and warm etc. I don’t mind spending a reasonable amount of money as I don’t want anything sounding like the proverbial “wasp in a biscuit tin” but I don’t want to spend mega bucks either. The sound needs to be reasonably nice and the package needs to be fairly portable to get up and down two staircases easily enough! I tend to practise by playing along with other peoples’ music on the stereo or the odd Scott Devine tutorial. I’m not keen on headphones as it’s virtually impossible to balance the two sound sources effectively. Any help gratefully received. Thanks in advance! Cheers, Steve
20. I was “umming and ahhing” about this one when I bought my own limelight a few months back but I decided to opt for the Black one (with full P bass width neck) that I absolutely love. These are as good as anything you’ll get from the big “F” without going to custom-shop level (even then, you might be surprised). Whoever buys this will not be disappointed. GLWTS!
