1. Here's my '62 P Bass in black and very nice it is too. Sorry for the poor quality IPhone pics but haven't had time to photograph it properly. I had the same problem as "Three" in that the bridge saddles were so "reliced" they had frozen up and couldn't be adjusted at all so I replaced with some quality brass units from Ebay for about a tenner! It's got quite a chunky neck and I currently have Roto 45-105 Jazz Flats on it nd it sounds amazing, especially with all the tone rolled off! The second shot shows the addition of bridge/pickup covers. I think this really sets the bass off beautifully !
2. That is really smart. I've got an Overwater Custom made Jazz that looks very similar but I kind of prefer your PJ! GLWTS Steve
3. Thanks everyone. I tried the 45-105 Jazz 77s after all and they sound great. It does need a slight tweaking though so I'll have a go this week.
4. Not being too clever (read: confident) with doing my own setups, I'd like suggestions of a good comparable flatwound that can be interchanged on my 62RI P Bass. It is currently set beautifully for 45-105 RW Rotos but can anyone suggest a good flatwound that is similar in tension and won't affect setup too much so I can avoid a costly trip to my local tech? The equivalent Roto 45-105 Flats (see below) always seem a bit heavier than rounds (or am I just imagining this?). Likewise, my Jazz Bass is currently set for 45-105 Roto jazz flats and suggestions similar to the above would also be welcome. Could the strings on the two basses just be swapped? I think I'd prefer them this way! Thanks in advance.
5. I've got a 63 "S Type" from Bravewood and its my main guitar. I've gigged exclusively with it since buying it in February this year. If you're into the whole relic thing, they're amazing and cost a lot less than the Fender CS "Heavy Relic" equivalents. Unfortunately, I can't speak for Bravewood's basses as I've never played one but the "early 60's J Bass" currently on his website looks amazing! This one is mine: http://www.bravewoodguitars.co.uk/63whiteS.html
6. I'm not one for doing my own set-ups! I'm happy to get my gear done by a very capable local professional who I fend to be very good and reasonably priced so each time I get a new bass or change string gauges, I factor in the cost of a setup into that. I don't mind as it keeps the yearly tax bill down. However, I've been wondering if I can change between flats and rounds of the same gauges without needing any adjustment. Any advice appreciated. Thanks in advance. Steve
7. Cheers, didn't realise I needed to be in 'full version' of the site.
8. Fender Japan 62RI telecaster. Antique White (unbound)! Ideally looking for a trade for a similar spec early 60s style P Bass (could include cash either way)! This is one of the non-export/domestic-market only models imported by a dealer here in the U.K. It is like brand new. There are three small dings which I have tried to photograph and a small chip to the paint by the treble side of the neck pocket. Eagle-eye viewers will spot the fact that the control plate is the wrong way round putting the controls in the following (front to back) order: Volume-Tone-Switch. This is a mod I always have done to all my telecasters as I prefer the quicker access to the volume pot so I had my local tech do this as he set the guitar up for me when I bought it. Not only are the controls now in a different order but the following parts have been changed for better quality USA-made units: Pots: CTS 250k Switch: CRL 3-Way Jack: CRL Capacitor: Bare Knuckle Wiring: Vintage Cloth-Covered/Wax-Dipped This significantly improves the signal quality of the electrics and easily puts this on a par with the current US made vintage reissues. I bought this very recently as a backup to my other tele but, in the intervening days, I saw for sale another guitar that I couldn't resist buying so this one is going before i become attached to it as I need the funds for the other purchase. Make no mistake, this is a 'players guitar' and is in fantastic condition. It really plays well and is lovely in the flesh. It is easily a professional quality instrument. Note: I have decided to include a quality Ritter gig-bag in the sale but I would still prefer to not send it through the post and have stated collection-only. I may be open to discussion on this if anyone knows of a good & reliable service they have used in the past. Potential buyers are welcome to try the guitar, just let me know if you want to come, I am 5mins from M1 J26 (so drop your missus at IKEA & nip round here!). Any more questions, please ask either by phone/text on 07989952656. Can't work out how to post pics on here but will send privately anyone who wants them! Thanks for looking, Steve.
