1.
I went to see her on Monday night in Birmingham at the Rainbow... capacity 200. The bass player is the musical director to and is no other than Peter Iannacone... and he is a groove monster. Seriously underaterd and seriously cool what with his cap... Nice guy to boot. I caught up with the band afterwards and was pleased to see how down to earth they were... oh, and the sax player... he's the star of the band what with his porn start moustache, his sunglasses and his serious talent! PS - hands off - that's my bass gig! Ha ha.
LOL- Well as I was saying to Joss on Wednesday 'I'm a lover not a fighter!' but when it comes to her bass playing job I think (Harry Hill style!) there's only one way to find out - FIGHT! I love those little intimate , and unexpected, gigs too. I only heard about the gig on Wednesday morning and couldn't believe there were tickets left!
 2. I went to see Joss Stone in Leeds on Wednesday night. She's got a great voice (and looks good too!) and she had a brilliant band with her. Don't know who the bass player was but he did a great job, nothing flash but everything right on the nail. What a fab job to have! It was a little intimate gig in a little ex-liberal club in Woodhouse! Amazingly there were only about 350 people there I'd say and nowhere near full. 3.
Interesting that the two Wakey lads come up with the same thing !!!
Lol - I thought exactly the same thing when I saw your reply, Dave!
 4. Persuade the nearest pub to him (hopefully near enough for him to see) to put you on. Agree your fee in advance - be cheap if you want to be because the night will be oh so satisfying! And make sure your rent a crowd is absolutely primed to turn up. Sometime during the night go into the non-payer guys pub and tell him that you've had to pop in for a swift one cause your playing just next door and it's so rammed that you can't afford the waiting time to get to the bar! He'll be so pleased he treated you so shabbily!
 5.
...Might have a blues band audition Saturday too...
Great stuff Alan! Hope that works out.
 6. Two very different guitarists for me.... Adrian Ingram - from Huddersfield Bill Nelson - orginally from Wakefield
 7. I always thought Evie was a good bass player from Micky P Kerr and The Dudes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Hxxb494caE...feature=related
 8. I saw Norman play with Wilko Johnson about 20 years ago and was blown away by his talent and ability. The Welsh T Band are supporting The Blockheads in Wakefield in April. I'm not usually a nervous type but I think I will be that night with competition of that standard!
 9. I'm in The Welsh T Band - the singers Welsh, he's called Terry, everybody in Wakefield calls him Welsh T and it's his band!) We rock up the blues as often as we can.... www.welsh-t.co.uk And I'm in The Roosters It's fairly standard pub fair - done well though, with a great singer/frontman. www.theroosters.co.uk (With all the bands around that are called 'The Roosters' I couldn't believe that domain name was available when I registered it!)
 10.
Surely everybody's who's interested has already had a dibble on my Shuker so I reckoned those of you bringing sunglasses would prefer the shame of a possible pic of yourself playing my Blue Flower Fender !!! Might bring the Shukerised Status too as I'm desperate to have it pointed out to me that the pots feel a bit dodgy when you twiddle them. Unless anyone would rather I substitute one of those for the 73P so you can all see how to devalue 2 grands worth of bass by simply upgrading the crap bits!!
I'd bring my Warwick Triumph but the last time I used it it sounded very 'farty' and I haven't had a chance to get it checked out yet. (Must be a Wakefield thing that our gear is less than it might be Dave!). Actually I might still bring it as somebody might be able to tell me exactly what's wrong with it!
 11. A freind of mine and me are putting together a guitar show/exhibition for a music shop in Wakefield and I wondered if it might be of interest to anyone here, or your guitarist mates. The show will cover the development of Gibson's electric guitar range from its first production model, the ES 150 'Charlie Christian', up to the introduction of the iconic Les Paul guitar. The show will be on the evening of 28th January at Trad Music on Kirkgate in Wakefield (www.tradmusic.co.uk) up to around about 9pm I'd guess depending on how busy the evening turns out to be. It's part of an art event that's happening in Wakefield on that evening. We've not entirely worked out all the details yet but I think there'll be a bit of a show and tell element to it. But if looking at old guitars is your, or your mates, thing then you might enjoy it! PM me your e-mail address if you'd like more info about this as the date approaches. Thanks for reading David
 12. First bass was : a Jedson short scale bass From : Contact in Leeds (think of it as a 1973 version of Crack Converters!) It cost : £19.50 Which today is : Dunno what £19.50 is in 'todays money' but the bass probably wasn't even worth £19.50 back in 1973!
 13.
and I've got the gas for a Telecaster Guitar as a result...
Just bought a '73 thinline tele. Although I'm a bass player through and through when I'm out with a band, there's no way I'd pick up a bass in-doors (unless a bass line is needed for a recording project.) Thing is they are all instruments we play, and we play whatever amuses us at the time I think. And I guess it makes us better all round musicians. And Lord I need any help I can get to be a better all round musician!
 14. and a cheery 'eh up' from the Wakefield contingent too!
 15.
Oh, you youngsters! It's now 30 years since I left. Any advance on that?
I was a 1974 leaver - can't believe 34 yrs have gone so quick! Happy new year everyone - let's hope it's a good one...
 16.
Oh my god............ look at that shocking wallpaper. That is a beautiful guitar.
I was very proud of that wallpaper when I put it up - OK it was some time ago!
 17.
Thanks for the info. The refinish looks very smart indeed. I think I prefer a good looking (and playing and sounding) guitar to one that's totally original but battered. I buy my instruments to play them. Any chance of a pic of the other guitar too?
Haven't photo'd the ES225 yet but here's a link to an identical one... and similar in condition too by the looks http://www.rocknrollvintage.com/prodimages...int%20large.jpg I know what you mean about original condition versus battered and used. I fall on the good orignal condition side of that argument out of preference to be honest. Not much of a fan of relicing (either genuinne or purposefully inflicted!) The 225 was obvioulsy bought in 57 by someone who loved it all there life (I am lead to understand that I'm owner number two - but for the two dealers it went through in the last year) orig case and some orig 'case candy' too. I also know what you mean about using them - sadly, I'm not much of a guitar player myself a few chords is my limit really. But I've got mates who use some of my guitars from time to time.
 18.
Oh my... that's very tasty. What are the screws? under the strings for?
It's been refinished - the only reason that I could afford it to be honest! The Charlie Christian pickup has a really odd design - as well as the blade magnet 'pole piece there are a couple of magnets which lay uner the guitar top too. The three screws locate on to them through bushes (and springs I think) to fix and govern the height and angle of the pickup on the guitar. It's a safe bet that I won't be touching them though - I'd never get the screws back in if I adjusted them 'too much'!
 19.
Pics, pics, please.
Hope this works - never did get the hang of computers! - but if it does here's the '39 ES 150 and amp...
 20. Yep - out with The Welsh T Band tonight. Got an ace keyboard player joining us for tonight's gig too. Fab!
 21. Reading this thread has made me feel so much better about my plastic card bill that has just come today with quite a bit of this years acquisitions on ... because my GAS is obviously well under control it seems. IN this year was... 1957 Gibson ES 225 1939 Gibson ES 150 'Charlie Christian' Late 1930s ('38 0r '39) Gibson EH 150 amp (still works fine!) OUT this year was... Nothing (my mantra is 'you buy instruments - you don't sell 'em!')
 22. And a hello from Wakefield too. WIth your list of likes and your location I'm wondering if you're a Colne Blues festival regular? David
 23.
Interesting one last night, not so much from the POV of playing but because of the circumstances. It was open mic night at the Roadhouse, and I arrived to find the stage partially dismantled and a couple of guys working away under it. Turns out that the Roadhouse have parted ways with some members of staff, who then put some booby traps in to sabotage the power and PA system, and also hacked the website. Everything was restored by a few minutes past nine, so it didn't cause too much in the way of organisational problems, but it was a pain in the arse. First time I'd been up for four weeks - did a couple of bits of house bassing and our normal duo slot. Resolved to get there every other week from now on.
Is that the Roadhouse in Stirchley tauzero?
 24. The Welsh T Band did its 500th gig last night. Not a bad gig - main band for Wakefield Blues Festival's Saturday night show. The place wasn't as full as we'd have liked - Thursday night's crowd was better when we supported Dr Feelgood. The bass player for one of last nights other bands had a very nice (and I thought very Shuker-esque) Overwater. Far too 'pretty' though for my taste. Roll on the next 500 gigs!
 25.
Which one is wunjos? is it the one with the sid vicious precision?
I think Music Ground have the Sid Vicious Precison - I seem to remember it was in their Leeds shop at one time.
