  3. I couldn’t comment if the speakers are all the same model, certainly the cabinet sizes differ which could lead to varying responses.
  4. Interestingly, TC Electronic K-Cabs, Laney SL cabs and now these Orange models are all using LaVoce speakers. I liked the sound of both the Laney and the TC, so I expect I will like these when I review them next month. Not bad for the money at all!
  5. In a word, yes. There’s modulation and EQ effects that can be applied to the octave sound, which for some reason just isn’t advertised. It’s daft they are missing a trick. i would love to demonstrate, but I’m currently being forced to sell anything I don’t essentially need. The TC’s have gone already.
  6. Wasn't MJ influenced by this video for one of his? I forget the name of the song but I seem to recall that being mentioned in an interview. Great video though for sure G&C!
  7. I read this hearing the voice of Hugh Laurie intermittently playing the part of 'House'. A very enjoyable read.
  8. Yes I like these too - and my main bass has two strap buttons on it's 'bottom end' when stood upright that also act like little feet.
  9. I foolishly bought one of these from another site advertising it as suitable for a guitar or bass. Maybe with a different brand name on it. It really is only good for a Ukelele, so I couldn't recommend this for bass: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/AROMA-AGS-08-Folding-Adjustable-Guitar-Stand-Aluminum-Alloy-A-Frame-Stand-Universal-for-Banjo-Guitar/32666319127.html
  10. Lovely, though I would say Cm, the relative minor key due to the resolution mentioned and severe lack of an Eb major chord in the song
  11. Graham, Lowdown has part of my answer here. Also, when you listen to the progression there is a home chord. A gravity towards a particular resolution and that is the Cm chord. In any modal progression it's about that resolution and how the progression builds the sound of that mode. So, although Ab Major does appear at the start of the progression, it's not "home". Now, if the song did indeed resolve to Ab Major then yes then we could be looking at Lydian as a mode, but the pointers of a Lydian chord progression for me aren't there, it's more the Cm vibe.
  12. Yes and no, I'd say. The Ab chord is diatonic, but the key is Cm. So, whereas you may be playing a pattern on the bass neck that "looks Lydian" You're still actually just playing the Cm scale from Ab to Ab. Or to put it another way, the piece of music doesn't have a Lydian sound to it. (Lydian is major in character, this track is minor.) I'll also just tack on to the end of this by way of an edit, before I picked up my bass to check the key, by ear I could hear the strong pull back to a 'i' chord, in this case being the C. Lydian again would be pulling my ear back to a major chord. (Major 7 as an example)
  13. On the subject of repairs, yes, a friend of mine repaired a huge hole in an acoustic guitar and I couldn't see where he'd done the repair when complete. But of course the Tacoma story was a bit different. It wasn't Andy's responsibility to fix something that UPS destroyed. Get well soon matey!
  14. Useful (for) PoohSticks
  15. I've just seen one of the most beautiful 6 string basses I've clapped my eyes on and it's going up on Facebook and Instagram tonight.

  16. The first question is always "What's your budget", but to be honest the answer will either be Helix, Helix HX Effects or Helix Stomp I do also really like and rate the Zoom B3 and Zoom B3n which are very, very good for the money.
  17. I was talking to Jon just the other day about Uberhorn. The electronics on this one came up in conversation and he'd said that at the time, this bass was a the prototype to Uberhorn and thus so were the electronics on board. The "best" way to do things at the time he recalls. Like the upgrades here, Jon is now using John East's UniPre and Piezo Buffer in the Uberhorn basses as standard. (Other pickups are available etc) . So it sounds like things have come on a long way and the systems now supplied are way more resilient - oh and from this thread, it appears they sound amazing too! I want an Uberhorn!!!
  18. I would guess that Bluetooth's latency would probably be a problem if "live sound" and the received Bluetooth signal were to be heard at the same time by the listener. It would be really distracting. Your second question, yes I think some devices allow for multiple log ins, but my feeling is that signal can only pass between one pair at a time. I don't know that for sure, but with certain household gadgets I own with bluetooth, that's the case.
  19. Valeton sold to Jonathan Bee!
  20. Hey Ian, We're all a big fam' here and we all have 'those days'. It's cool, we're good. I do know how you feel though. I am a nightmare, probably the worst especially when it comes to a potential big purchase. I want answers dammit lol It is so bad these days that it took me three days to choose a screen protector for my 'phone to make sure it was the best for the money. I'm not even joking. The annoying thing is..... I haven't even bought one yet!
  21. And right back atcha!
  22. With the err... likelihood that I will be saving up my pennies for a Line 6 HX Stomp, here's a few pedals it will be replacing: TC Electronic DreamScape £75 Valeton DC-10 Analogue Octave £30 SOLD £7 goes toward insured and tracked delivery please. All pedals are in excellent condition but have velcro on the bottom. (The TC's are taking a hit as the prices have gone down so much! Yikes!) I'll add more as I decide what goes next!
  23. I'm used to playing my ER Basses with all sorts of effects and goodies and they sound ace. This afternoon however I have been playing my (new) old Precision bass with nothing but me and amp. It sounds insanely good. I even tried out some of the effects that I am used to using live... nope, P bass just sounds amazing without. Really good. It reminds me of a sound I had in my head when I was younger (my first REAL P bass when I was 18). Happiness.

I'm feeling excited at the prospect of turning up to a gig with a battered old P, but I've got a lot of work to do on some of the sounds that the band uses to fit it in. I do need that low B for a few songs though.

Ah, simplicity is a wonderful thing! Like you, lately I've had a hankering for a 4-string Stingray, which was all I played for years back in the 80's. Unfortunately I've been playing 5's for nearly three decades now, and all the 4's I've picked up over that period (for mainly nostalgic reasons - although I've never had another a Stingray 4, oddly enough) I've moved on again fairly quickly because I missed the low B, or 'the thumb rest' as I call it, too much. It's all in my head, I'm sure of it...

I'll be running through my gig sets hopefully next week if I have a chance. The worst case I thinks that I'll need to punch in an Octave pedal when I want those low notes. I could even try out a -5 semitones on a pedal to get the "low B string" (100% wet effect) - which won't sound the same but for the odd part of a song it might work.. but that P bass though... yum!

  24. There's also been studies in to the existence of music notation Dyslexia too. Folk who may not be affected by "normal" Dyslexia finding that they struggle to read notation with similar symptoms.
  25. I've found no aftermarket covers for EMG sized pickups, yet, if you were to chat with maybe someone like @intime-nick, maybe it'd be possible to commission a shell that could be chromed?
