Hello everyone...My name is Gary Bennett, but I am predominantly known as "BISCUIT" and I am a Bass guitarist using 4/5/and six string Spector basses which I run through a Hartke rig. I have many years of experience with live bands and recording studio's with various bands, playing many different genres of music. I am looking for paid work only in an Original or covers band in which the style of music is not important,as long as the band is working. I am also working on my own project at the moment and would like to hear from Vocalist's and lead guitarist's. This would not affect my commitment to another band though as I work as a full time musician. Please feel free to contact me at if you are looking for a bass player to cover all your needs.....Many thanks. P.S..... You can find out more about me at www.myspace.com/biscuitandbass4
Gawd blimey guvnor!!! Thought you'd never get here! - Nice pics and stuff on the Hartke site mate! I even managed to get my ugly ole mug in there too! ;O) Good to see ya here! Dood.
Not bought from America, I need it quicker than that, so taken the hit on the extra money it'll cost Still comes through a courier though apparently. While I'm remembering though, I just need a USB to MIDI cable to update the M9 using Monkey, right? Any standard USB to MIDI cable will work fine, I'm assuming?
I've just bought a MIDI to USB cable from amazon for - I think it was 10.99 for updating my TC G Major 2 - it works just fine - no drivers required. [edit] this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cable-Adaptor-Musi...2716&sr=8-2 ;o) Hope that helps matey!
Hey, I've just bought an Ampeg SVT 2 Pro which has a graphic EQ that can be used as a second channel. This can be done by using a stereo jack plugged into the footswitch socket at the back. Here is what ampeg say: Footswitch: This is a stereo jack which will operate with a standard dual footswitch. The tip of the plug controls the mute operation, the ring controls the graphic eq operation, while the sleeve acts as a common ground to both. With the footswitch inserted, both the front panel and the footswitch mute switches are active. However I have a single latching footwitch in the form of this Axess Electronics Amp Controller. Is it possible to use a single latching footwitch to only activate the graphic EQ and not the mute function? (I'm guessing not, because putting a jack in automatically turns the mute on) Or to take two single footwitches (i.e two outputs from the Amp controller) and use this Stereo to two Mono Jack, so that they control one of the functions each? Having to run a dual footswitch to the front of stage would be extremely annoying, as I have all my pedals, wireless etc in a rack. All I have at the front of the stage at the moment is this Midi Footwitch that controls the Amp controller. Any help would me much appreciated, Thanks, Ed
Ed - I've done similar in the past - take a patch lead from the controller and push it in to the footswitch socket in the Ampeg HALF WAY. When you push the socket in usually it will 'click' 3 times. IE , each time the tip passes a contact in the socket. But if you push it in, so it only clicks TWICE the tip of the plug will be in contact with the 'ring' connection of the socket. This contact is the one that controls the graphic. The ground connection will still be touching the correct terminal. It might take a couple of goes to get the plug to click in to the correct position, but in the rack, when it is in place, it should move if knocked. failing that, yes, you will need a stereo to dual mono lead and select the mono connector you require. I'm using a TC Electronic GForce 2 to change channels on my MXR M80 pedal - however I had to do some very minor customisations to the pedal switching. (Which can be undone and doesnt affect the pedal at all).
I have a KappaLite 3015LF and four Deltalite II 2510 which I currently have installed in some Ashdown ABM cabs, but I'm thinking of selling my Ashdown rig and might keep the speakers. I was browsing the net for suitable DIY enclosures for my speakers and found Bill Fitzmaurice's designs - then noticed a lot of folk rave about them on bass forums, including here! My main question is, what would people recommend for rehousing my speakers? I was thinking a pair of Omni 10s for the four Deltalites. What would be good for the 3015LF?
Bill himself posts here frequently, however, I'm thinking that asking the same question on his own forum may get you a faster answer. I *think* the Omni 15 or tall boy version takes the 3015LF - but couldn't be 100% sure, without taking a look at the models on Bill's website. If you are looking for something a little different for the 3015LF and fancy a self build - then look out for GreenBoy's FearFul 15-6 advertised on TalkBass. Or maybe, have a chat with Alex Claber her who manufacturers his own BareFaced Bass cabinets, that also features the 3015 range of speakers.
the light wasn't too good, but here's some more pics. I was trying to show the contouring and the thumbchumb profile with these. He had to put it somewhere
I HAVE to quote with all the pictures left in ;o) Absolutely brilliant! I can't wait to see it in action! Well balanced, contempary design, ergonomic and aesthetically pleasing for sure! Your ideas were great - and Jon has pulled them together into a fantastic piece of kit! Congratulations!

I think you'll find any speed adjustable cordless drill will do the job nicely. - I've used an electric screwdriver before with similar results but it didnt quite spin as quick as I would like. I think the part that is more important is getting hold of the customised bit end with the pics on it. I made my own out of a 'PCB standoff' - the type that has a screw in end and a large gibson plectrum - you know, the almost equilateral triangle shaped ones. You have to be a bit clever with the playing angle - but it does work. However, I got bored of using the drill and just played the bass part with my fingers...fast ;o)

yeah yeah.. leave the standard at 4 strings.. I've never been one to follow the rest of the crowd, so 'non standard' for me is just fine! lol
Sorry to differ but the Trace is the same as the Alembic F1X and BBE BMAX-T. F2B is different design.
Ah!! Thanks Dave!! I got the two mixed up didnt i!

I was really impressed with the Rebel. I loved the way that it was so easy to program - then you could forget about it.. Touch a button and the settings instantly come back. Very handy if you left your amp and somebody twiddled the knobs whilst you weren't looking / getting a pint. Tonally, the parametric EQ was another joy. Again, so simple and made sense. Nice bit of kit that!
I didn't really like my Trace V6, I found the eq less useful than the Mesa
You might find the Alembic not so useful either as it's the same passive tone stack in that too.
-
I'd urge you to see if you can find a Trace V-Type preamp. The schematic is very similar - but I actially think the Trace is a better design - and has an effects loop ;o)
The TC Electronic G-System is amazing. Great quality effects (no amp modelling, no distortion) and midi-switching capability so that you can add pedals to your effects and pre-amps. Build quality is unbelievable and it looks like it was designed by Porsche. It's easy to programme from a PC/Mac and can be used on the floor or as part of rack system. It's not designed for bass specifically but other than a few of the pitch effects and tuning the B and E strings (you have to do it with harmonics) there are no issues and I use a Korg rack tuner anyway. Doesn't come cheap and it's not the easiest thing in the world to drive at first but once you get into it and you've read the manual, it's OK. If you're after quality of effects, ultimate versatility and bomb proof build this is the one.
I think TC are leaders in multi effects. I've owned the G Force and now have a TC G Major 2. The G Major v.1 can be picked up for around 250 notes second hand and even the simpler G Sharp is fantastic (at around 100 quid second hand) and certainly the first effects unit I would recommend for someone on a budget.
-
I know this isn't going to be what your guitarists wants to hear, but I think 'cheap' multi effects units are in my experience not the best route to take. I use the theory that if you buy say 6 quality effects pedal that sound great on their own (which is usually the multiple of sounds you find on an average multiple effects box) - even if you only spent £50 per pedal you are already up to £300 before you add anything else like intergral processing, patches, expression pedals, MIDI implementation, Amp sims etc. So for that budget, You'd be best shopping second hand at least. It sounds harsh - but you may find that cheaper multi effects boxes are plastic cased (as opposed to metal cased pedals) & are likely to break easily, have cheap power suplies with weedy cables, suffer from patch change lag or just lower quality sounds anyway. On the flipside though, there are bargains to be had and the Boss and the line6 stuff mentioned above are cheap as chips and do break the mould a bit when it comes to quality, which is good!

Well this is a mega long shot - and one from my childhood! The Concert, shot live in Sydney was shown on TV.. probably BBC many years ago - and I'm after a decent copy of the concert video/DVD/mpg - especially the above song featuring a fretless bass solo by Chucho Merchan. Does anyone have a copy anywhere?
-
Well, if they sound as nice as they look, you're made! I love the clean look and a very professional looking build!
-
If it is an 'export' model they are just stock 'no model' Fender pickups, but if it is an export model then it has 'US Vintage reissue' pickups. I've been given to understand that neither are US pickups and no doubt come from the same factory - however I have heard they do sound different. I wouldn't go as far as saying they were a reissues of a certain year. I think my 1989 Jazz Bass Special sounds more vintage than my vintage reissue ;o)
Loved the Thomas Lang clip. Not so much for the drumming, but the way the cameraman appeared to be nodding off during the first minute and a half or so...
ha a ha ha!!! Yea! Not sure who he was - found the video on YouTube after the event. - the post of mine was a bit of a humourous response to the OP. I wish I had a proper video to post - as our music dictates that the drums are very intense and 'all over the place'. However, the drums are all set parts and not random fills here and there. - so I guess that's a bit different!
-
An old video - but I don't think we got a bar of 4/4 out of our drummer for this tune! Here he is at a drum clinic.
That looks like the dogs preverbials. The spec on paper is also pretty impressive. Considering you've been pursuing light-weight cabs for quite a while now these must be hugely impressive to make you about-turn. Are you using this rig with your covers band? Will have to try to coincide my next Norwich visit with one of your gig dates.
Hi ya! - Yeah, I'm very pleased with the rig now I have started adding my other gear to the signal chain. I think, considering the power of this rig, it's not really that heavy in comparison to cabs that would have to be much bigger and heavier to compete with it I guess. - Noooo, I left the covers band ages ago to concentrate on Within The Void, so it's unlikely at the moment the rig will play 'locally' - or at least, not until the Void are touring!
