1. Would that be that rather funky green limelight, that is very nice indeed! I'm quite liking limelights if anyone has a limelight to trade against my 83 Precision!
2. I've already changed my mind about a dozen times about selling either of these, but think I shouldn't really have two P basses and should have something a little different. I'd like to hold on to the 71 but the right price would prise it from my grasp! My problem with the 83 is that is in such good condition I darnt take it out the house, I just know I'd end up knocking against a cymbal (or pint glass!!) I need something a little more worn! Here's a couple of photos of my 83 with the current black pickup covers....... Damn it looks good.......I think I may be changing my mind again.....
3. Sorry, I'm after £1000 for the 83, other than a small dink on the neck, it looks like it came out the factory yesterday!
4. Not withdrawn...........at the moment...........not that I'm indecisive or anything.....!!!!
5. I had the MXR and found it much more difficult to find the settings I liked than the Markbass...out of all the compressors I have owned the markbass is by far the easiest to dial in, even with its multitude of knobs and dials..
6. Hi, lovely bass, any chance you could put some photos on as the link in the previous thread no longer works. Thanks
7. I keep coming back to this bass, it's lovely......
8. I've been messing around a bit with my string height and I'm actually liking it a little bit higher than I've had it fir the last 20 years! About 2.5mm at 12th fret seems perfect, I found that the neck radius seems to have an impact on string height, my P with the 7.5 inch radius cannot get as low as my P with 12.5 inch radius, is this normal?...
9.
Not if you buy a used relic, the dinks just add to the effect
Good point well made! But there's not much that will go up in value once you've bought it, infant it may be worth a thread, which guitars are good investments!
10. I've decided that I really can't get rid of this, I'd only regret it in the future and it's not like I could just go out and another tomorrow, I may part with my 83 USA precision though!,,,,
11. That is very very very pretty, one of the great things about relics or old basses is that the occasional ding doesn't send you into a total tail spin, imagine getting a ding on your brand new bass, oh that's ok I've got a cool reliced sandberg which just looks even cooler now,!
12. I find myself rather captivated by the dingwall super P, but there isnt anywhere near me to try one, and the fanned fretboard they have leaves me with a few questions! Is the fanned fretboard easier / more difficult to play? Does it make the bass noticeably sound better, and if so, why doesn't everyone make their basses with fanned frets? Also I like chromes on my P bass, would the different length strings required on each string mean that strings with silks on cannot be used? Thoughts from fellow bass chatters would be appreciated. Whether the fanned fretboard works or not, it looks bloody great!!!!!!!
13. The clone of my 1971 Precision, only this is my year of birth...mmmmmmmmmm nice....
14. 2mm a actually seems to be quite low then! Does anyone have their string height much lower than this?
15. What constitutes a low action? I set my Precisions up with a 2mm gap between the top on the 12th fret and the bottom of the strings, this seems pretty good to me, I've managed to set it lower before but found it a little uncomfortable to play, particularly when slapping, what's string height do people tend to have?..
16.
At one time i owned the GR1, the Proton, the Wonderlove and the MXR M82 (i think that there was actually also a AW-3 around). The Wonderlove has a quackier sound, the envelope is more errr "open". My thoughts were that the core sound was closer to the Proton and MXR when comparing to the GR. The WL is a great tool with lots of control but somebody will have to rip my GR from my cold dead hands before i part with it. The GR has a warmer tone (to my ears), the envelope is more "polite" and in my opinion that fits better a bass guitar. I don't like high pitch quacky sounds from an EF. My main regret is that i had to pass the oportunity to buy a GR2 from a friend of mine a few weeks ago, the blend option on these is a plus that i think it would work even better in my sound.
The blend option makes a big difference on the meatball, just so many sounds you can get from it.
17. I sent the proton back, it sounded good by itself but just got lost in the mix when playing with a band, whereas the meatball cuts through like a knife, being able to select between high pass, low pass or mid filters, and then even being able to tweak those really does help to fine tune your funk! I'm going to let our guitarist and hammond player have a go and see how it sounds with them.
18.
Status halfrounds? Almost flats and great strings
Yeah, forgot about these, very nice strings and very cheap purchased direct from status!
19. D`Addario Chromes are great strings, I had some le bella deep talking previously but found them to be a little dead!
20. Thanks gents, quite a few offers but nothing that's hit the spot just yet.
21. Hi Spike, thanks for the kind offer but I already have a very nice mark bass rig.
