1. Thanks Skol, appreciate the feedback The whole thing is 6 mins and drops to more of a reggae vibe basswise with percussion added later I will post the full length version soon as poss. i get your point with drums ...i would probably have gone for some scientist style messin with them ,but then i would probably do that on everything if i got it all my way ...
2. https://soundcloud.com/timothy-terrence-higgins-iv The first two tracks on my soundcloud site are a new project i'm involved with [bass's used fender and squier jazz] love to know what u think cheers Tim
3. Yes great stuff nicely done ,i think i am in agreement with Tom regarding drums but for me they only need to come up a touch Tim
4. o.k. thanks ..the reason i ask is that my j retro has no tone control in passive mode and regarding the wood type to go for i notice some reviews state the v7 has more mid and growl than a standard jazz therefore i was wondering if the alder may be better suited to me as i dont generally like a to aggressive sound
5. Im thinking of getting a v7 but not sure whether to opt for ash or alder, is there a lot of difference tonally ? and also can you still use tone control when passive ??
6. Sounds like a 2 bob boy band singer to me perhaps they will get 1D to do the next one ! utter sh*te
7. Hey Charlie i'm pregnant living on 9th street right above a dirty book store off Euclid avenue i stopped taking dope i quit drinking whiskey and my old man plays the trombone and works out at the track Tom Waits .Christmas card from a hooker in Minneapolis
8. Looks cool ,it has the look of a Carl Thompson and a JD as well as Alembic but its a different decal.. i'm sure someone will be along soon with some idea !
9. I had this same amp and it was the most reliable i have had ,plus it sounded great g.l.w.t.s
10. That Atk from GAK with the maple neck looks like an Atk 1200 with the neck pick up I dont think the 200 or 300 had neck p.u. or clear pick guard
11. I had an Atk300 and that had a maple neck ...bass looked just like yours but with original tuning pegs I thought the Atk 200 did a maple neck version originally but not sure
12. I think its great all works for me ,i get Dads reference to the psychedelic bands with the great harmony's and i hear squeeze to which cant be a bad thing ! I thought the singe sounded Liverpoool to me is he not then ?

I got a bass off Pete once and he was a lovely fella , but i have to say this thread is far more interesting now ,its a bit like Soduku going back over it and trying to work out the missing bits !

Hi Pete another vote for Eden from me i have the EC 15 180 combo and love it ,so my next amp will be the WTX 500 which i have tried [with 4x10] and loved ..i'm not sure how flat it is but it sounds real good to me and there are no silly overdrive type things on it
15. I play in a reggae band and often have this problem when a soundman boosts the lows on the bass drum and bongos to much [we have 6 mics.] , soon as we roll it off things work far better and the band are far happier hearing the bass sound as it should without me cutting those essential lows .. i realize this is a problem if your having to cover all styles and Phils solution may be your only choice !
16.
Vintage: Proper hefty bass sound with bass played as it should be, as part of a rhythm section. Rugged and manly. Hi-Fi: Widdly-widdly twangy cutlery-drawer-down-the-stairs in your face inappropriate slappy solo nipple-rub for gaylords. I await the backlash with pleasure.
There all to busy double thumbing their G strings !
17. I must confess i think i am a 'tinkerer' and do enjoy mixing and matching to see what happens ...i'm going with your earlier advice at the moment and am going to make a 1x12 extension cab for drummer thanks for the feedback and i hope you had a good holiday
18. Cheers Merton i will have to give one a try it sounds very tempting
19. Great review ,how did you think it compared in output to the Abm 500 ? I tried the rm 420 and found it didnt seem to put out anything like as much sound as my Abm 500 which is my favourite amp for my reggae band so the lows are essential
20. I now have that Hofner and its a beaut Lee is a pleasure to deal with have confidence.. nice one Lee
21. Danny from bass japan direct was a pleasure to deal with kept me in the picture all the way and my new Bacchus wl003 arrived from japan safe and sound and is fantastic... I wouldnt hesitate to deal with him again.
22. Thanks Phil, 2 separate cabs does seem to make more sense ,and one of the reasons i was considering a 12,15 was that i found the deltas to be very middy where as the hartke is very warm with nice lows [to my ears] so i thought they may mix well together... I replaced the the hartke speaker with an eminence Kappa pro 500 15 and that seems to work well in hartke cab, although this seems a little heavy on the mids compared to my behringer 15 that although doesnt have as good response across the frequency range does seem to have very nice lows ,i had put this down to it needing to be played a bit to wear in or is that nonsense ? would i be better off going with a different 12 ?
23. I have a 300 watt 15 speaker from a hartke cab and an eminence delta 12a 400 watt and am thinking of a cab with the 15 facing front and the 12 on the side [pointing at drummer] ,these are both 8 ohm and will be wired in parallel making it a 4 ohm cab ...does this sound feasible ?
24. I agree to an extent but i dont think the great innovators were ever encumbered by the 'purest's' conservatism to jazz.. love the Ornette !
25.
I think it's a bit of both but Garrison never had PC's chops. He had his thing, absolutely, but PC had the smoother technique and stronger bop chops. Garrison was, for me, the deeper of the two.
Sounds that way to me too .and although p.c,'s lines transpose over to electric well ,for me Garrison's stuff with Coltrane works better...although it all sounds better on upright
