Elixir Nanoweb for me - pricey but they last for ages and tension has always seemed ok for me. Tapered is handy for Warwick’s as the fat ones sometimes don’t fit through the bridge anchor without filing the bridge or squashing the string with pliers 😂

Yeah I like a 130 B String personally. That is a lovely bass and with a fabulous grain 👍🏻👍🏻

Sad to be asked to stand down over something so basic! Hope your leaders might see the light and ask you to get involved again !

You and me both, although I prefer Burl or Birdseye natural personally !! 😂

I think most of us can relate to this experience Richard although thankfully I’m not also responsible for sorting out our livestream or words projection !!!

Yep - that is “mad” but it’s very nice!

Ahh yes - I think most Euros LX are 9lb+, and the USA stuff can be very heavy (relatively speaking!!). Are the RSTs chambered or just well chosen woods?

Thought I’d share this as there was a lovely time of worship (using the song “make room” at the end of our service and the sound (on decent headphones!) was pretty good. Jump to 1 hour 33 mins for the bit I’m referring to!!

Love the Thumb. As you say, that grain is exceptional !! 👍🏻

Colleague at work asked me to do a set up on this bass for his son. It only had two strings on it when he brought it in. Cleaned fretboard, restrung, saddle height adjusted (was ludicrously high!) intonation adjusted. Neck pretty straight once it had 4 strings on! he hadn’t realised it was active and as I didn’t have an amp I couldn’t see what it does - battery had Japanese characters on it so might be quite old!! Can anyone say what the two switches might do ?!?! Quite a bit of gaffer tape round the cabling so it may or may not be original. all he knows is that his son will be happy to be playing 4 strings instead of just 2 !!! 😂😂

Really interesting to read all this and to see how other churches do things from an AV perspective I'm surprised 4 bassists aren't enough really, unless maybe you are running multiple services each Sunday (which we did for a while)? I find if I'm not playing at least every other week or so, its much harder to stay familiar with the songs and to have a sense of "team". I'd be interested to know what other bassists think about the optimum playing frequency. Crack on with your learning and in addition to learning from your current bassists have a think about getting some lessons maybe? I had been playing for years when I decided to get some lessons from a pro-bassist and it absolutely transformed my playing - was also great to get an external "secular" perspective on playing bass as so much worship stuff is repetitive and predictable so you can end up playing in the same way the whole time. Sounds a bit of a contradiction, but its made it easier to worship while playing! It was also nice to share some of our music with him!
