I know who my local MP is, he is a parachuted in Tory who has no interest in anything other than brexit. We have conversed with him several times, and have come to realise that he is not one of the bright crayons in the packet* and that what you want doesn't entirely align with his views, he has no interest in helping you or assisting in any way. And in the latest election his majority increased. To be fair, I think he put a lot of effort in. I think he even visited the area once or twice for a photo op. * My wife runs and online shop, she wrote to him because as a direct result (ie, you can measure it) of brexit her shop is doing badly compared to 2016, and asking about aditional help the government can provide to small businesses. I was always one for ii, but there are only so many years you can fight for your cause before you realise that it is a complete waste of energy. Madness is trying the same thing over and over again expecting a different outcome. Brexit has proved to me that the countries priorities are so far removed from mine, although i) seems negative, it is exactly the same outcome with less effort. I am not too old to make a life anywhere else, so as I can't actually choose my neighbours, the best option is just to fraction further and just have as little to do with them as possible.

Forgot to plug the SY1 into power yesterday, thought it wouldn't be an issue as it had a reasonably new battery in it (like just over a practice). Died on me half way through the last song of the first set 😫 The bass was fading in and out, didn't know what it was. Second half it was plugged in, won't make that mistake again!

Not a fan of steely dan at all, in that some of it I cant stand and the rest leaves me cold but my wife is a big fan of it so I have heard a lot. Its good to play along with some of it, there is good stuff in there to play, even if not to listen to, but then I find quite a bit of music is like that, you can appreciate the brush strokes without actually liking the painting. Had to learn Pretzel Logic for a gig that never happened, and as such I got used to, so I don't mind it. I think that music is better that they did exist as loads of musicians I do like have quoted them as an inspiration.

I would agree entirely on that. I have done a few petitions and all of them have come back with 'thanks for signing the petition, the government have considered it and decided that we are going to do what we want anyway'. Now the government have a huge majority I don't think they even have to pretend that they care about anything outside their agenda any more. I am utterly voiceless too, never more so, and it seems so far non aligned with peoples wishes (in that I don't even understand them), that it seems for the first time in my life, there actually is no point in trying to get involved in anything.

That's one of the iconic ones for me, but like what I meant, there are some iconic parts to it, I wouldn't expect a note for note performance on it, it was always different when played (and Neil Murray said as much on here), but I am always a little disappointed if it doesn't have that two descending scale run under the "fool for your loving" part of the chorus.

Just got back from a gig - first half didn't got that well, so many little issues, culminating in the fact I didn't plug in my SY1, and the battery died and took the bass out with it. On the other hand, the second half was like a completely different gig, it worked really well, and our new song, 'in the end' went down a storm. So came home happy!

Exports to the EU are over 40% of our total exports, and when you could countries we have a free trade deal with through the eu it is way over 50%. we do, but that isn't down to one country. There is no individual country we have a trade deficit with. Our EU neighbours get most of our fish, because we sell it to them because we don't eat it. Yay, so everything is more expensive but noone has an advantage. What a bonus. Shame they are the people that we trade with the most. No we aren't. We have already lost more money than we ever paid the EU. I really don't understand peoples ideas of markets. Are we really such a stupid country that we were paying billions in to a market that we weren't getting more out. I am surprised anyone runs a shop here. Because it costs money to rent a shop, and that seems to be the only financial agreement that people understand. I gather you are fantasy land sort of guy!

It's hard to sensibly criticise music when you don't like it. There is no way I would listen to 30 seconds of Oasis, so it would be impossible for me to critisise it beyond it being a whiney dirge. If you really don't like something it is hard to say why.

I would agree with that. If you want a fender, buy a fender. If you want a better fender go to a custom fender builder. If you are another company go for something else.

Well, that is good. Good in that I don't necessarily want that, but I would fender kept a range of 'interesting' shapes or ideas going.

Apart from the last one which just meant you didn't do what you set out to do what you wanted to do, I am talking of fret dressing, not refretting a whole neck. Certainly if you want to make the job so complicated you can't possibly do it, there are ways. Clearly I have, i was taught by one as I said right at the top of the thread. I am not sure what job you were discussing, but no, you don't need a bench jig to dress frets or change your string tension. And you end up with a perfectly playable instrument. Well, obviously if you do it a lot you can do it a lot faster, but that still doesn't make it hugely hard if you are going to take your time and be careful. Yep - A gibson dark fire, it was distinctly average. So much so I had to look up to see if a plek machine did what I thought it did. Turns out it did and put in the 'don't pay extra for something that has Plek as a selling point'! And yes, I ended up the first time I did it with a harley benton with amazingly low action. In fact the best frets on any instrument I had. But it still weighed a ton, wish I had taken one of the expensive ones! Well, I have done it many times, and I have no real skill. As I said it takes me a lot longer than half an hour because I have to be careful and check and recheck that I am going to do it well and obviously like pretty well everything in life if you don't take care you can mess it up badly but my success in doing it with my combined lack of skill tells me it really isn't that hard.

I couldn't build my own house or car, not that I would want to, they are far outside my abilities or project size. 🙄 Yeh, or you could do what I do, take an afternoon when you are not doing anything else, a file that costs £5, a straight edge which you can get anywhere, a rocker plate that you can get for 3 or 4 quid, a coloured sharpie, a fivers worth of sandpaper and frog tape and do the job as well as most people that you are going to pay for will do it for a lot less money and a lot more reward. If you can put a shelf up mostly straight, or bake a cake from a recipe you are at the right skill level to do this.

Not just then, now too. I view them like bands really - after a while when the original people go and the band is all new people, they want to make new things, but people just want to hear the original stuff, while saying 'why don't they make new stuff any more'. And once it becomes more corporate business, they know that any time their machines aren't churning out new reissues of a Jazz or a P, that machine isn't being as profitable as it could be. Its a shame they can't have a true 'custom shop', unlike one where they just make the same things in other colours for a lot of money, a place they can come up with new designs which are allowed to 'fail' (ie, not make huge runs).

I played one in Mansons in Exeter. The neck was lovely. In fact, the whole bass was good to play as long as you didn't accidental catch a glance at it I think it is an acquired taste which I didn't acquire and judging by the rarity, nor did a lot of other people, so I am not surprised they didn't reissue it.

I wish I had. A few of us in the south west did a course with the guy in the video after he was at one of our bass bashes, it was a one day bass neck dressing thing. I took my harley benton because 'was I going to learn on my gigging bass?'. At the end of the day, my harley benton had the best frets and action of any bass I owned The whole course was £80 and since then I have done most of my bass work myself (and guitar).
