1.
Trace gives excelent tips on how setting up your amp to obtain maximum performance on their manuals. Here you go: http://media.wix.com/ugd/c44a33_59783e46cd57466d9d91d5f4a3160fa3.pdf From my Trace experience i would say to stay away from the pre-shape and turn off compression until you have nailed the EQ. Use the 50Hz slider to cut, it cleans up your sound a lot. Read the manual and follow the steps described there to setup the gain syage and EQ, you should end up with a sound you like. If not, Trace isn't the amp you're looking for...
Thank you so much for the manual. I searched for one but couldn't find it or only found ones for other models. Much appreciated.
 2. Looks really good.
 3. Lovely little bronco bass. Bought in December so nearly brand new. Does have a small mark on upper horn came from the factory like that. Other than that excellent condition. Levelled, crowned and polished frets. Plays really nice, lovely neck. I was honestly surprised how nice these are. £80 or £100 posted (uk or Ireland). Will be posted in original box, well packaged. Insured. 4. Sold Andy a fender p bass. Good communication exchange and the money was transferred very quickly indeed.
 5.
Always hated thyat pre amp so understand why they had the preset. Potentially a lot of tone shaping there... I just didn't like the metallic sound bias it had so glad semi para's put it to bed. I'd guess you have 10+- db on your designated freqs and that is hard to control on such a small graphic panel ( same as the Ampeg) so you must realise that a small change is going to supposedly be quite a sweep.. Good luck. I'd just use the pre shape... most sounds are scooped at some point or another anyway. Can you start with the rep shape and switch the Eq in.. or is it one or the other..?
Yes you can have the eq in with the shape or vice versa lol. I can get one pretty good sound out of it, which is eq almost flat but with the lower mids turned down a bit and the preshape button on. Struggling to get anything that's not muffled, metallic or weirdly scooped. Even eq flat it sounds "different". Going to try boosting the mids more but doing that never worked with other amps for me.
 6.
No, you end you just accentuating the lowest notes, plus finger noise and hiss! The warmth/roundness is all to do with the mids.
Not sure I fully agree with you there. Yes you will accentuate the low notes but a nice shallow smile has never caused finger noise and hiss in my experience with any amp. I'm talking a shallow smile here, not massively scooped mids! Which would probably do that. Just sounds to me his mids are boosted to much combined with any bass with its pu near the bridge sounds to me like a recipe for clank and harsh tone. Surely adding lows will help balance this? Mind you I'm having eq trouble myself with my trace Elliot combo. I can get one really good tone. But can't get anything else I like.
 7. Wouldn't a classic smiley face eq work better here when loud, Instead of the frown your suggesting. Also stingrays and the dimension bass have the pickup near to the bridge so it's going to be less rounded than say a p bass naturally not that I think the bass is the issue. Although isn't some clank part of the stingray tone? So I've heard.
 8.
Are you sure it is the action that is the issue and not the string type/tension. I ask as I find that cheep strings feel bad and have a terrible tension especially on the e and b. I moved over to using La'Bella perfect tension strings a few months back and they are a dream to play. Might be worth considering which strings you are using and are if that helps?
It could be. I have confused myself by changing strings flats to wounds and different brands. I used to like heavy high tension strings but now I think I prefer lighter gauge rounds as my technique was horrible and had little plucking control but slowly it's getting better and I can play lighter and lighter all the time. Just a thought that all this might be caused by my evolving playing. As I'm still a relative beginner 2 years 8 months playing give or take and self taught which is much slower going.
 9. I bought an old but fully working Te 7215 smc combo. I'm having trouble finding a tone I really like. Normally I set an amp flat and work from there, trouble is I'm not keen on the amps sound flat, so not sure where to start from. I do like the pre shape button but it can seem a little muffled at times. I would like to use the eq more effective. Second issue how does the 2 band compressor work, all it seems to do is boost the volume with no compression apparent tho I'm just playing at home levels so maybe its more effect when digging in.
 10.
It's best to think in terms of acoustic watts, not electrical watts. To put things simply, the more cone area and enclosure volume you have, the more efficiently your system turns electrical energy into sound energy. This is a 5W bass rig: https://www.facebook.com/electromusic.doncaster/photos/a.500640740065205.1073741827.500050530124226/773583696104240/?type=3 But it'll generate about 110dB of sound!
Was reading alot of info on the barefaced site last night funny enough. And haha at the little 5w amp very cool if a bit surreal.
 11. I don't know why but this actually made me really upset. Shed a few tears. Wasn't a big fan, although I liked his music and thought of him as a pioneer etc. I guess I am a big fan after all. Huge respect for him. Thought he was a cool guy. Assumed he would live forever. 69 isn't young but its not old in this day and age.
 12.
Carlsbro TC60 ?
Isn't that a guitar amp? Doesn't count in this case. Unless your playing bass through it.
 13. Was just thinking how amps are getting higher powered. And there were days when 100 or so watts or even smaller was used for gigging. With I imagine varying degrees of success however they must of worked? But of course power is relatively cheap these days and it's always better to have head room etc etc. I'm just curious if anyone is using lower wattage for gigs?
 14.
Rubbish, it was Carol Kaye. Rio, Girls on Film, Bad Boys...those synth stabs on A view to a kill ? Carol Kaye.
Errm NO! But Carol Kaye did claim to do them when it was actually Jamerson! Fact..... Haha
 15.
Always liked this from the Rio album.. http://youtu.be/25m4P72FK6E I think the bass line was actually played by Mark King using a plectrum belonging to Derek Forbes, along to a sequenced track put together by Rick Wakeman from Keith Emerson's sweat.. John Taylor was too busy applying blusher and chasing women to actually take part in proceedings.
Haha
 16.
Just pick one & get used to it. 3mm isn't a high action BTW - if you think that's high you'd never manage to play any of my basses.
I've tried that and have practiced mainly with the one action for several months and still a little confused to why I'm not fully adapting, maybe it's just me. Out of curiosity what's the action height on your basses my highest is about 3.5mm I can play to 4mm if the strings are lower tension. Feels very different to my little bronco bass which has a sub 2mm action after I levelled and highly polished the frets. Suppose with high action you never have to worry about level frets lol.
 17. I'm having trouble (still) finding an action that works for me. Seems I need three different setups, which I do have three basses all set up different. Low 2mm and under, standard 2.4 -2mm and high 3 odd mm. What I like doesn't make sense, genuinely from fretting to plucking it varies from tune to tune what my hands prefer and I truly feel comfortable with. I have tried practicing solely on a standard action height and it seems neither here or there and I don't feel as I should. I don't think what I'm doing is wrong, just a bit annoying changing basses to feel comfortable and I feel a bit daft doing it infront of people tbh. Any advice on this?
 18. JT said in an interview that he was glad he had 6 months of practice of Rio before he had too do it in the studio. Can't for the life of remember what interview or documentary he said that on, but he definitely said it. And when he has played it unaccompanied on various things I've seen he always sounds like the clip in question.
 19. Have you tried just lowering the pickup for all strings then just slight raising the g Or vice versa You won't have a nice string curve (radius) but it will balance the sound more. You will adapt to the compromise in setup but you will never adapt to a loud unbalanced string.
 20. Well I had it up for sale but now withdrawn it, played it through a different rig and going to give it more of a chance. If I still feel the same at the end of the month then it's going back up. Still I had hoped this would be my main bass. Nevermind...
 21.
Someone on FB is after one of these exact basses.
It's ok I'm withdrawing it for now.
 22.
Apart from the tragic bridge, I think it looks rather lovely. The description (for MDP) is refreshingly matter of fact. But the price...? It would need more than a new set of heavy strings to make me cough up what he's asking. Shame really, I love "mongrel" bases and I do have a perverse desire to own one of his pieces. Perhaps he'll have a sale....
This is one of the better efforts. I don't think his work is bad as such it's just so so shoddy. And the stupid prices it's ripping people off that probably know no better.
 23. WITHDRAWN Going to give the bass another chance after playing it through a different amp.
 24. I always like isolated tracks makes me feel much better about my playing. Kinda reminds me that bass like nearly all instruments isn't perfect in its sounds you will hear, other little noises fret buzz, finger noise etc are present. The isolated track of pump it up is another good example, sounds perfect in the mix but lots of other noises clanking etc in isolation. I also like to hear recordings before there messed about with too.
