1. Have to say that I was really looking forward to hearing some new stuff from the band particularly as they blamed the record company for some of their more commercial work over the last few years. However I think that this track is really bad. Admittedly it is not a great mix that I can hear but to me there just isn't any funk anymore! Jamiroquai's early stuff had a groove and a vibe all of it's own and when I saw them at Hyde Park recently and they played some old stuff it still has it but this just does nothing for me at all. I think the problem is with the guitarist - he just sounds to poppy/souly and not funky enough. Think I will opt for the illegal download when it comes out rather than waste £10 on that dross. Mind you doubt that Mr Kay will worry about that as he has done quite nicely thank you very much already! Anyone looking for modern funk should check out The Haggis Horns as they have just released a new album called Keep on Movin and it is excellent.
 2. No you are right - nothing new but still it was great to hear stuff from EOPE live again.
I was there, was cracking! Also had the smoothest journey home ever! Don't remember any jamiroquai stuff i didn't know though..
3. I love the fact that he sits down to play too!
I was there too! It was a great gig and I really enjoyed all of the bands. The weather was fantastic too! Nathan Watts was amazing, solid as anything... I dont even think he broke a sweat!
4. Yeah it was pretty awesome wasn't it? Strange choice to finish with Another Star though? I thought Jamiroquai were excellent too and was glad that they played a lot of tracks from their first album which is my favourite stuff by them. All in all a good days music.
WHAT A GIG!!!!!!!! My back ached after 6(ish) hours of grooving but it was so amazing. Stevie Wonder on his back funking on the Keytar, never thought i would see that
5. I will be there - I hear that Jamiroquai are showcasing a lot of their new material so that could be good. Really looking forward to Stevie though.
Hello! So I got free tickets to Hard Rock Calling in Hyde Park this saturday. Here's the line up includes: Stevie Wonder Jamiroquai James Morrison Corrine Bailey Rae I bought an ipod last year which gave me loads and loads of points and I had enough to swap them for 2 tickets. Anyone else going? I can't wait to see Nathan Watts and Paul Turner in action! Let me know if you're going to be there
6. Finally took the plunge and bought one before I went on holiday and only just had 5 mins to try it out at home with my basses - all O can say is WOW!! This is without doubt the best sounding envelope filter that I have had yet and I have gone through a few now! It nails the Mu-Tron type sound and is so responsive to finger style playing - a really funky peice of kit. If you have been think of getting one then just do it as I promise you will not regret it!!!
Just watching a clip on You Tube of Bryan Beller demoing the MXR Bass Envelope Filter and it sounds awesome. Any one got one or tried one as I am interested to know if it really does sound that damn funky?
7. Can you give any rough idea of total costs for a good system including wireless receiver and moulded ear plugs?
You can have as many receivers as you want as they are only receiving a signal.... so they only have to cope with one frequency (as opposed transmitting several 'mixes') I've been using IEM for a number of years now and it's my preferred monitoring solution..... yes it is obviously different to stage monitors but a dedicated ambient mic off stage will help with this. Don't expect to get used to using them straight away... give it say a months trial.... As for the ear pieces falling out.... you do have to get decent moulds custom made to avoid this generally
8. I bought mine direct from the UK importer which is Sounds Great in Manchester I believe. Speak to Gary up there and if you can't find the number then let me know as I have it on an invoice somewhere!
Just wondering... where can you buy the Pedaltrain cases separately?
9. I made the same move a month or so back and do have to say that the PT2 is infinitely better as it is angled and also really easy to hide cables and power supply etc. The flight case is a nightmare it is well made but just really big and heavy! I kept that but then also bought a new soft case which I seem to use all the time now and it is great.
I've upgraded from a Diago to a PT-2 recently - it's a good move, lots of space on there and it's easy to keep things neat and tidy. Only issue I have is the flight case weighs a tonne - but I can live with that!
10. Jesus Christ you turn your back on the forum for just one day and a vintage Mu-Tron comes on and sells before I have tome to do a thing about it!!! Beginning to wonder if I am ever going to get one of these bloody pedals!
Here we go: starting price 0.01$ no reserve http://cgi.ebay.com/Tone-Factor-Analogue-F...=item19bcde6639 http://cgi.ebay.com/Musitronics-Mu-tron-II...=item19bcde51e1
11. Nice board! How do you rate the Enigma? Been looking at them on the net and was pretty keen to get one to try and emulate some of the funky Zender sounds from his Jamiroquai days - can it do that? Mark
Mine at the mo with a Valve Drive if needed
12. MXR looks like it has to be worth a go I keep watching the demo's on You Tube! I wonder if you guys can explain the benefit of having an f/x loop on a filter pedal and how that might work with my existing set up? I run the Chunk Systems Agent 00 Funk and Brown Dog together and that gives some interesting synth type sounds but of course that fuzz only seems to work with Agent pedal as the Bass IQ and Subdecay Prometheus are before the Brown Dog in the chain as they should be. If I went for the Groove Regulator or the MXR I would want to add some slight overdrive to it (check out the tone from this clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrRH-W_WZgY) but wonder how I would set this up on my existing board? Perhaps an f/x loop on the pedal would make this easier? BTW has anyone tried the EHX Enigma the demo of that sounds good too! http://www.effectpowersupplies.com/enigma-745-p.asp
great, glad it's working out for you. fuzz, filter and octave are so irresistible together. My current combination for that is Groove Regulator with ZVex Mastotron in the loop for fuzz and then put the hole lot thru MXR BOD. I am definitely tempted to try that new MXR Filter too. Hope the second set makes it to number 11 on all the dials!
13. Ah yes much better - will vote now. BTW was not meaning to sound stroppy in my post! Mark
There, better?
14. Like Burrito Bass says there is no option for a 70's USA Jazz Bass which is what I have! I bought mine in Feb this year and have to admit that I have struggled to put it down ever since. You might not think much of that but given that my other bass is a custom built GB Rumour which cost double the price then it really is saying something. The neck is so quick and the tone just perfect in the mix - I wish I had taken the plunge and bought one sooner. I hear a lot that there are some really bad jazzes and I must have just been lucky with mine but it really is a great sounding bass so + 1 for a pre 75 jazz bass.
 15. Hi thinking of Light Years, Space Cowboy & Stu's Tune as a starter!
gunsfreddy - i don't have facility to do demos unfortunately mate, and I'm still playing with sounds. I managed to get a reasonable flea ish tone from it in the shop, but that definitely bears further investigation. Which Zender tone are you after? any songs in particular?
16. Forgive my ignorance but I am really interested in looking at an IEM system and just checked out the T-Bone system at Thomann. How does that integrate with an existing PA and desk?
i use the Senhieser iem300 (i believe its called that anyways??) with ACS T2 moulded ears.. i absolutely love them!!! altho, its hard not to get dependant on them... i just bought 2 sets of the T-BONE iem100 systems from Thomann for my brother (guitar) and our Singer..and they too are amazing..and i believe there is a half price kinda deal on at the mo, they rrp at 300euro ish but i got them both for 300euro.. great systems..
17. Can you give us any demos? Would like to see if it nails the Flea/Stuart Zender sound?
I got one from effectspowersupplies - their shop- yesterday. It really is as good as it seems. I'd given up on finding a filter that I really liked and it turns the m82 is that filter for me! Richard warned me whilst I was there that those that try it buy it, and he was right!
18. I am coming to Portugal in 2 weeks time - you have some fantastic vintage basses!!! Where are you based?
Hi, I'm 42 years old, playing electric bass for 26 years and double bass for 4 years. I'm a semi-pro because 30% of my time is still spended running a small company with no relation with music. My favorites kinds of music are among jazz, funk, nu soul, nu jazz, nu funk, acid jazz, etc If you came to Portugal I'll be very pleased to offer you high probabilty of sun shinning, beer and basschat. ............or maybe a test drive to my gear: Basses: Alleva Copollo LG5 Classic Supreme; Ken Smith BSR6 Black Tiger Elite; Jerzy Drozd5 Mastery; Jerzy Drozd5 Mastery Fretless; Celinder Update J5; MTD535-24 USA; Sadowsky Metro UV70; Fodera Imperial Matt Garrison; Fodera Monarch VW4; Tune bass maniac 4 fretless; Squier VM; Fender jb 1965; Fender jb 72; Fender jb 74; Fender pb 72; fender pb 76 fretless Amps: Aguillar AG 500 + Epifani UL 502 + Markass LMKII + SWR super read head Preamps: Aguillar tonehammer; avalon U5; Alembic fx1 Cheers
19. Effectpowersupplies.com also have them in stock - they sound great on the web but I then realised that he was also using a slight overdrive in the sound which was making it a lot more funky! Can't decide between buying one of these, the 3 Leaf Groove Regulator or a vintage Mu-Tron!!!
I had one on order for ages and cancelled it as they seem to be taking ages to get to the UK. I see they have them at guitarguitar now though.
20. Just watching a clip on You Tube of Bryan Beller demoing the MXR Bass Envelope Filter and it sounds awesome. Any one got one or tried one as I am interested to know if it really does sound that damn funky?
 21. I bought a rig from there a few years back and dealt with Martin all day as Alex was away on holiday - I wonder if that is why I had a very pleasurable buying experience!!!
Thats exactly how I felt both times I went there Almost as if I was another 'Pikey from the sticks'.
22. Some of the guys over at Talkbass are talking about the following filters and saying that they are better sounding than the Mu-Tron itself and they are: EHX Enigma WMD SuperFatman Anybody any thoughts/experiences of these two filters?
There are three more compact clones of the Meatball on the market now, with a variety of prices and features, but all would have to be ordered from the USA unless you see one for sale used, so you'd be adding import duty, VAT and a handling fee to these prices: 3Leaf Groove Regulator - No expression input, lacking a lot of the controls from the original Meatball but apparently it works very well on bass. - $230 Robot Factory Meatwad - Almost all the controls from the original, + expression input, in a SansAmp-sized box. - $350 Barge Concepts Grinder - Looks closest to the original, larger and more expensive than the other two. - $410 I've got the Meatwad, it's a top filter. Mine's got a couple of extra sneaky features so it's got more switches, I feel like a scientist when I'm operating it.
23. I was luck enough to have a friend passing through Sydney just about the time I wanted one so I bought both Chunk pedals from Bass People in Sydney and got her to bring them home with her. Got a great price and no tax or VAT to pay either - result!!
Thanks for the recommendations fellas, really useful stuff. I haven't had a chance to look at them all in detail, but i'm intrigued by the Chunk Systems Agent 00Funk (ridiculous name). I watched an Ed Friedland review, in which he incorporated it with that OD pedal and it sounded really cool. Only thing is - how on earth do I get hold of one in the UK? Again, I've only had a quick look around, but the distributors (Godlyke) are no help on that front.
24. Going into tomorrow afternoon after a client meeting in Coventry to A/B my Aguilar against a Mark Bass F1 and perhaps some other cabs - could be expensive!!
IMO the best bass shop in the UK..Mark is a lovely guy too...Played a Nordstrand through the Mark Bass in there and it was smokin..
25. Good point - I have 3 filters on my board at the moment!! Seems like wet squelch is subjective then so to speak. Anyone able to compare the GR to a Musitronics Mu-tron?
i've got a GR and can get enough squelch from it when required. This is a very tweakable pedal. care and some experimentation will get you where you need to be without the annoying and speaker-threatening spikeyness of many EHX filters; but the trade-off is that it is probably about 85% as wet and squlechy as an EHX. But then when has one filter ever been enough on a board. I have a GR and an EHX Bass Balls, I also have a steel Mini QTron that i use occasionally. i checked all the demos before importing the GR a year ago and I have not been disappointed, especially bearing in mind that I love Bootsy-style filter sounds.
