Best online retailer for strings
Gunsfreddy2003 replied to Gunsfreddy2003's topic in Accessories and Misc
Cheers Guys. On this occasions Stringbusters were cheapest for the Elixirs that I wanted. Mark
yup, another strings direct fan here
-
Evening all! Looking to buy two sets of coated strings this week, probably Elixir or Ernie Ball. Can someone advise who has the best prices online and offers quick delivery? I have used Stringbusters before but just wanted to sense check if anyone else is better? Cheers Mark

Fantastic - don't bother using my rack tuner at all anymore!
So whats the opinion on this pedal for anyone who has one? Going to go try it out next weekend
What head are you using with the GS112's?
I added a second and am now able to sell my SWR cabs. Maybe the SWR 2x10 has more hi mid bias but this doesn't endorse plug in and play and although the sound can be great the two cabs don't fit in my car as well as 2 GS's do. Very easy on the ear sound last night with 2 GS112's, a perfect underpinning of the band as they don't lack bass at all. Lovely funky little cabs IMV. So stage 1 in my plan is complete..they have replaced my present incumbents.. :lol
That did cross my mind as I work in sales!!! Also the OP on this thread stated how good the F1 sounds with a GS112 cab. It does look like I would be wide to purchase a 2nd GS112 though as two together seems to be favoured by nearly everyone! Mark
Being cynical, is that because Mark doesn't sell Aguilar but does sell Berg ? Have a look on Talkbass, there's a guy there called KJung who's really knowledgeable. He's tried pretty much every amp/cab combination that you can imagine. I've read loads of times that GS12's match really well with the F1 head.
Seems like the most sensible option Martin. Will do just that and see how I get on.
I can confirm that 2 x 1 x 12 bergs work really well with the F1, but don't know the aggies. Mark is usually spot on with his advice, but it's always worth taking your cabs to try with an F1 at his shop. Cheers Martin
Please see the link below: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...biggest+blister As the proud owner of that one I would agree to try not to pop it if possible as it takes much longer to heal and really hurts if you do try to play on it. Agree with the comment that you need to look at technique - if you crank up your backline more then you don't have to play quite so hard to hear yourself and that should help. Mark
The liquid is there as a protective cushion against further damage from too much pressure. If I have had to, I have used a bit of gaffer tape to stop the blister from bursting and to add a bit of protection. Depending on which finger has the blister, it may be possible to work in another finger instead! Sometimes why a three finger technique is useful. I don't wanna teach to suck eggs or anything, but of course, if big blisters are re-occuring it might be worth looking at technique to prevent it happening in the future. Blisters are caused by playing too hard (obviously) and sweaty/wet fingers. Keep 'em dry and you'll suffer less! Also, as has been said already - any methods for toughening up the finger tip skin will be useful too, such as rubbing in Surgical Spirit.
Not keen on changing cabs at all really to be honest as I like both of them!! Also not sure on the sense of having to carry to separate cabs to a gig if the idea of a lightweight head is to reduce the load of gear going out to each gig?
TWO GS112s would be really really nice. One would be fine for quiter gigs. Depends on what you want to spend really.
Guys, Had a good chat with Mark at Bass Direct today ref an F1 head and he really believes that a GS112 by itself will not work well with an F1 head. Apparently 2 x Bergantino 1x12's would work much better. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
-
How do you find it through the 2x10? How high up do you have to crank up the volume for gigs/full rehearsals?
I run my F1 through a 2x10 cabinet. I will eventually get a 15 to add / complete the set up.
-
Or running the 2x10 and 1x12 for the same effect?!!
Can't see a single 12 doing it at anything but low volumes...and that is pretty much hamstringing the amp, IMO..and pushing the cab alot.. Whereas, 2x1x12.... that is another story. A very portable and big sounding mini rig...although nothing mini about the sound, IMV.
Which pro players in this genre use them?
This is the very style that they excel
That is what I feared - GAS attack coming on!!! Subjective question this but do you think that running at 4ohms it would be a more poweful/louder amp than the AG500?
I think where it really shines through is with funky fingerstyle, aggressive pick playing and a good old bit of slap. The sound is so percussive from the head. If a detailed, bright, snappy and controlled sound is your thing, then I don't think there is much not to like about the F1.
-
What are they like for funk sounds? I play a lot of fingerstyle and slap and wonder how the F1 or F500 would cope with this? I don't like Mark Bass cabs - too wooly and not enough definition for me but I did hear some MB heads through various cabs at Bass Direct a while ago and have to say that I was pretty impressed! Enough to consider changing from my Aggie AG500SC. Nothing wrong with this head but I just think it runs out of steam a bit when working the GS112. Now I could take both the Epi and Aggie cabs out and it would probably be fine but I do like the size of the 112 and when you are going through a PA there is no need for a huge backline anyway. The size and weight of the MB heads is very appealing right now - could walk to a gig with all my gear in two hands easily.
Yes, it can do deep, dub, middley old skool tones and motown with those lovely controls, as well as ultra flat & hifi - but don't expect it to do 'dirty' - as it is a very clean amp. That said - drop an M80 pedal or similar in front of it and it will rattle ya jaw bone
Yeah it's a great combination for a synthy type bass sound!! Still not sure if I really "need" a mutron III though!
Nice board dude! I see you like your filters I used to have the Brown Dog/00Funk combo, that was awesome!
-

Ha ha! Yeah got some space left for any "must have" additions!!!
Freddy - it's nice but there's space for another 5 dirt pedals on there.
-

Just finished my new board off so thought I would share some pictures. Chain is as follows: Bass into TC Electronics Polytune - Catalinbread Serrano Picoso (clean boost which I use with the 74 jazz bass) - EBS Octabass - EBS Bass IQ - Subdecay Prometheus - signal then splits with a feed into the Chunk Sytems Brown Dog input and also the Envelope in on the Chunk Systems Agent 00 Funk Mark II (this enable me to use the 00 Funk as an envelope filter in it's own right - output from Brown Dog then goes into the input of the 00 Funk - EBS Multi Comp and finally to the EBS UniChorus and then to the input on my Aguilar AG500. All housed in a Pedaltrain PT2 with hard flight case which is big but very protective! -
Wow that is a work of art!! Classic. Wonder what the tones are like from it?
Talking of Birthdays... cake anybody?
1977 Fender Jazz...what are your opinions?
Gunsfreddy2003 replied to bubinga5's topic in Bass Guitars
Oh that is a hard one to answer! They are both completely different beasts!! The jazz is lovely to play it has a really fast neck and the tone just seems to cut through the mix - I play a lot of groove/funk stuff and the finger style and slap tones from the jazz just really work for this music. Having said that the GB plays like a dream is capable of so many more sounds - if you flick on the 'slap' switch you get an unbeleivable hi-fi sound that oozes quality. To my ear the GB sounds much more like a pro players bass tone and it works great in the studio but live I would probably have to say that the jazz edges it! One other weird thing is that so far only one person at a gig has commented on the GB but so many people ask about the jazz and it's year etc it just makes me laugh!
oh man thats good but bad...GF what do you prefer playing.....and what bass is best to your ear...i have played all the basses ive owned to my dad..he says he likes the Jazz the best...its funny the way an untrained ear (well bass anyway) likes the sound of a Fender so much...
-

Gunsfreddy2003 replied to bubinga5's topic in Bass Guitars
I recently bought a 74 jazz bass off the forum and I was a bit worried about what I was buying but some good advice on this forum gave me the confidence to buy it and I am sure glad that I did as I love it! The annoying thing is that my fellow band mates prefer the sound of this old jazz to the GB Rumour that I bought last year which cost twice as much!!
Just to add to the above, I bought my 77 as a player, not as an investment. That's one thing I like about 70`s Fenders, they're not unattainable price wise - in fact mine cost less than a new 70`s reissue! I like that I can take it out and gig it regularly and not worry too much about it. For me, the tone of a good 70`s Jazz is hard to beat, mine has clarity and punch for days... I also had a stunning `76 P that I wish I hadn't sold.
-
Surely this wouldn't work as the only mini jack on an iphone or ipod is the headphone socket which is an output?
i'm sure you can get a specific mini jack to jack adaptor for the iphone. Peterson do one i'm sure you can get cheaper ones though: http://www.petersontuners.com/index.cfm?ca...w&itemID=39 This lets you plug the bass or something else in like a mixer output.
A fellow basschatter put me on to the idea of one of these today and I wondered if anyone on the forum has used one and can give any sort of feedback or advice on them? Alternatively if anyone knows of something similar but better then I would be delighted to hear about it! Mark
