1. I vote for the single version - I have always loved the sound that Zender gets on the chorus, filter and fuzz it is just awesome. On a side note back in the day I also quite liked the dance re-mix version which had a killer sax solo on it!!
this has been debated before ive been asked to play some Jamiroquai in a band soon.. not sure if they want to do athe long version or the single version... ..just wondering what SpaceCowboy bass line you like best..(not that i would lift them).....for me Mr X's bass line is (ok busier) but far superior in melodic playing, to the single version..ive always thought it was RHT...something about the melodic fills and mastery ive heard so many times... its played on a 5 also....i asked Bluey at an Incognito (meet Bluey time) concert, if Randy Hope Taylor played on this track and he just smiled and said nothing...hmmm.. but it could be all in my imagination.. here is both...i do love the simpler Zender playing though..by the way the vid with Zender on the Warwick is sooo cool..but the album bass playing is sublimely intuitive bass playing... 2. Jamie, Listen to me and the others on the forum and DON'T SELL THE GEAR!!!! Sure take a break and re-charge the batteries but when you feel ready to play again , and trust me you will, you will have everything you need to jump right back in again. I would honestly advise you to keep with your music and if you have a chance to play pro then go for it. For me, and I am sure plenty of others on this forum we never achieved the chance to play bass for a living but would take it at the drop of a hat if the chance ever arose. The older you get the harder and less likely this is to ever happen. You are luck you have some of this so please don't just throw it all away. Grasp the opportunity with both hands and realise you really are lucky. Carpe Diem as they say. Can I also just ask what was so wrong with the tour?
Hey folks, Well, it has been quite some time since i've posted here last. A lot has happened - from getting my dream rig, to touring the UK with the band. Unfortunately the latter is what put all the nails in the coffin. It was such a positively awful experience i wouldn't have wished upon anyone. Further to that, i've decided to concentrate on studying and i just can't juggle the two. Not to mention i've recently gone through an upheaval of moving house since. It has been a busy few months, of which i didn't keep up with very well. In fact, i've let a lot of people down and really disappointed myself in doing so. I just thought i'd post because i'm in a bit of a situation regarding my gear. Do i sell it all, keep some of it or keep it all? It took me ages to get a Mesa 400+ and my rig sounded really incredible. I'm in need of money though, to kick start saving/investment. What is the best way to approach my situation? I'm only 20, experienced being number 58 in the German album charts, have made lots of good contacts and met lots of great people, not to mention i am quite sure i still have plenty of fuel in the tank. Help me good people. Cheers Jamie.
3. ....and now with some pics (excuse the camera!!) The SKB X-rack and Behringer rack tuner could also be available for sale too. Let me know if interested.
 4. I am thinking of moving on my Aggie AG500SC which I have had from new and bought from The Bass Gallery about 2 years ago. It has been in a rack case since I bought it and so is in mint condition throughout. I am 99% certain that I am going to go for a different brand of head but would like to know if I can shift the Aggie first! These amps are £815 new so I think £500 ono would be a fair price for it. Let me know if you have any questions or need some pics. Cheers Mark
 5. If you want to sell it on here you have to state a price - those are the the forum rules. If you really don't want to put a price and run it like an auction then just go and use Ebay or does the fact that you have to pay to use their service put you off?
Thanks any way. I will probably go for the ebay route, Some american or Japanese buyers will pay mad prices to get one of these bass synths.
6. Ha ha - ok it was still early!
Well, a change is as good as a rest.
7. You could have a point there! Looks like the general consensus of opinion if to stay as is and use the GB as and when I need the sizzle! As previously stated there is nothing "wrong" with the jazz I just wanted to check that I wasn't missing a trick by not installing an East pre-amp as so many people seem to change the bride, pick-ups and everything else on a jazz bass.
If you want a hi-fi "super jazz" sound, why are you using a '74 Jazz? Get a Sadowsky/Lakland/Other NYC Session Posebass and leave the poor thing alone.
8. I have actually managed to compensate for this a little by using a Catalinbread Serrano Picosso signal booster on my pedal board and just clicking that on when I use the jazz bass. TBH it doesn't really cause me a problem I was more interested in the extra EQ options available with the East preamp.
If you have a bass with a high signal and one with a low signal you could either get a 2 channel amp, like the Markbass LMK, or balance the output of each bass to the same level.
9. Do you have a link to the Sadowsky Preamp for sale thread?
I think they are very good units. It was OutToPlayJazz's positive comments on here, that gave me the idea to try it out. He has been using the preamp with a passive Jazz. There's one for sale here for £130 - the going rate 2nd hand and you would get that back easily enough if you decided to move it on. I once had a J Retro installed on a Lakland Daryl Jones bass, though I wouldn't go that route now, I would choose an outboard pre. Though TBH, I mostly play passive now
10. The electronics in a GB are custom built and have an EQ and signal output that you would not believe - it is very hot indeed. Compare this with the passive pick ups in a 35 year old bass and you get chalk and cheese!
How so?
11. Thanks guys - some really good ideas and thoughts there. Might look at the outboard pre-amp idea. Are the Sadowsky ones any good?
 12. In that case they should give Mr Kay some tips on songwriting!
Funnily enough, the current horn section is comprised of two members of the Haggis Horns. While this song doesn't really do it for me, I have good reason to believe it's not indicative of the rest of the album.
13. I have been reading a lot about the range of preamps made by John East and the article in this months BGM has made this even worse!! My 1974 jazz bass has a lovely sound and tone but compared to my GB Rumour it feels a little lacking in the EQ dept!! There is also a huge difference in the output from the two basses which does cause a problem or two as well. My worry is that would adding a pre-amp de-value the bass in any way ( it has been stripped and re-finished at some point in its life so is not 100% original) so not sure that it would but also does this begin to move away from the essence of a 70's jazz bass? In that it is a simple to use passive bass with a certain sound which is what you actually buy them for!! Interested to hear thoughts and experiences on this one. Cheers guys.
 14. Ha ha!!
It's very rarely the one person who knows nothing about music, that's for sure.
15. Not my favourite Jamiroquai tune but still a good 'un. I still really love the bassline on If I like it I just Do it from EOPE and also the Rhodes solo in Music of The Mind 17 years on and it still makes the hairs tingle on the back of my neck!
The old days. I love the bass on this tune.. hmmmmmm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0ACSbsV3y8 Bring it back.. maybe I'll just have to listen to the old stuff.
16. Good point - just shows that a band and it's sound is never just one person. The first two three albums must have had a strong influence from Smith and Zender. In fact come to think of it I am sure that Stuart Zender said that JK was into dance music when they met and it was him and Smith that got him into 70's funk. All kind of makes sense now!
The talent pool finally dried up when Toby Smith left. Nearly 10 years ago now.
17. Have to say that I was really looking forward to hearing some new stuff from the band particularly as they blamed the record company for some of their more commercial work over the last few years. However I think that this track is really bad. Admittedly it is not a great mix that I can hear but to me there just isn't any funk anymore! Jamiroquai's early stuff had a groove and a vibe all of it's own and when I saw them at Hyde Park recently and they played some old stuff it still has it but this just does nothing for me at all. I think the problem is with the guitarist - he just sounds to poppy/souly and not funky enough. Think I will opt for the illegal download when it comes out rather than waste £10 on that dross. Mind you doubt that Mr Kay will worry about that as he has done quite nicely thank you very much already! Anyone looking for modern funk should check out The Haggis Horns as they have just released a new album called Keep on Movin and it is excellent.
 18. No you are right - nothing new but still it was great to hear stuff from EOPE live again.
I was there, was cracking! Also had the smoothest journey home ever! Don't remember any jamiroquai stuff i didn't know though..
19. I love the fact that he sits down to play too!
I was there too! It was a great gig and I really enjoyed all of the bands. The weather was fantastic too! Nathan Watts was amazing, solid as anything... I dont even think he broke a sweat!
20. Yeah it was pretty awesome wasn't it? Strange choice to finish with Another Star though? I thought Jamiroquai were excellent too and was glad that they played a lot of tracks from their first album which is my favourite stuff by them. All in all a good days music.
WHAT A GIG!!!!!!!! My back ached after 6(ish) hours of grooving but it was so amazing. Stevie Wonder on his back funking on the Keytar, never thought i would see that
21. I will be there - I hear that Jamiroquai are showcasing a lot of their new material so that could be good. Really looking forward to Stevie though.
Hello! So I got free tickets to Hard Rock Calling in Hyde Park this saturday. Here's the line up includes: Stevie Wonder Jamiroquai James Morrison Corrine Bailey Rae I bought an ipod last year which gave me loads and loads of points and I had enough to swap them for 2 tickets. Anyone else going? I can't wait to see Nathan Watts and Paul Turner in action! Let me know if you're going to be there
22. Finally took the plunge and bought one before I went on holiday and only just had 5 mins to try it out at home with my basses - all O can say is WOW!! This is without doubt the best sounding envelope filter that I have had yet and I have gone through a few now! It nails the Mu-Tron type sound and is so responsive to finger style playing - a really funky peice of kit. If you have been think of getting one then just do it as I promise you will not regret it!!!
Just watching a clip on You Tube of Bryan Beller demoing the MXR Bass Envelope Filter and it sounds awesome. Any one got one or tried one as I am interested to know if it really does sound that damn funky?
23. Can you give any rough idea of total costs for a good system including wireless receiver and moulded ear plugs?
You can have as many receivers as you want as they are only receiving a signal.... so they only have to cope with one frequency (as opposed transmitting several 'mixes') I've been using IEM for a number of years now and it's my preferred monitoring solution..... yes it is obviously different to stage monitors but a dedicated ambient mic off stage will help with this. Don't expect to get used to using them straight away... give it say a months trial.... As for the ear pieces falling out.... you do have to get decent moulds custom made to avoid this generally
24. I bought mine direct from the UK importer which is Sounds Great in Manchester I believe. Speak to Gary up there and if you can't find the number then let me know as I have it on an invoice somewhere!
Just wondering... where can you buy the Pedaltrain cases separately?
