  1. When I first came to know about Shukers, I had actually been down to try out numerous 'Pre-owned' Sei's the day before, and nearly walked out with a Flamboyant 5. What I did find was that as people have mentioned here, every Sei was different. For me most didn't feel right in some way or another. Whether it was the pickups, issues with interference being transmitted through the pre, or just the general feel of the instrument, each had its own 'issue' that put me off buying one. The one thing that I would say though is that the Flamboyants are especially well made, and felt perfect in terms of balance and poise. However the Jazz's just didn't seem to sit right for me. One thing I would point out here though, is that I've never, and I do mean NEVER, been a fan of Fender basses, and their 'copies' have never worked for me...... except the Shuker Jazz's. These just seem so much better poised. Alll this of course is my personal opinion, and many people will differ with it, but I'm now kind of glad I never found a bass that day, as if I had, I may never have come to find my Shuker! So, to conclude, absolutely try it out, and give it a really good try, but don't buy it thinking it will automatically work for you because of your familiarity with Sei basses. They are excellent basses indeed, but the nature of their existance means that they are too variable to rely on. Would I ever consider getting a Sei in the future? Yes, but I'd choose it very carefully, and would probably only consider a Flamboyant or 'Original'? Enjoy, and good luck! Regards G!
  2. For me, the nicest sig bass out ther is Yves Carbonne's 12 string Fretless Jerzy Drozd bass, but I doubt many 'copies' of it have sold, so think it probably doesn't qualify as a 'Signiture' bass? After that, its a close tie between my old 'Pedulla MVP5 Signiture' or the Shuker 'JJ Burnell' P bass? Think the Ped would win, even if it doesn't have a specific persons name attached to it. Its still a Signiture bass! Does Dan's 7 string 'Dood bass' count as a 'Signiture' bass? Cheers G!
  3. Any idea on the weight of this bass? I'm still trying to see if I can manage to get some money back to the UK or not? I am right that this comes with a Shuker 'Hiscox' case? I thought I'd read it somewhere above, but can't seem to see it now? Cheers G!
  4. From the pics, I'd guestimate 17mm. Maybe 16mm? Cheers G!
  5. Hey folks, First proper posting from me in a good long while. I hope some of you still remember me? I'm just wondering if anyone has played one of these beauties? I'm really interested in them, but can't seem to find any reviews for them! Anyone any idea how it would compare to the likes of a Tacoma Thunderchief? Link to site here.... 6. Once again, I'd have taken this off your hands if I had the cash left in the UK! Sometimes living out here has its real burdens! Hope someone snaps it up soon, as thats a good price for such a bass! Regards G!
  7. I had an MVP5 Signiture bass (5 string fretted version of Buzz) and loved it! I stupidly sold it on, and regretted it ever since! If I had the chance to get another MVP5, I'd jump at it if I had the cash available! Great basses! As Kiwi says though, if you want versatility, then swap out the pups and pre. These are not the most versatile sounding of basses, but the one or two sounds they give are fantastic, and hard to better!! I'd thoroughly recommend this type of bass to anyone! Hope you get a deal going soon! Regards G!
  8. Don't suppose you have any trips to Cape Town lined up in the near future do you? Hehe! Seriously nice bass! One day I may just manage to grab an Iceni 5, always been an 'object of affection'! Someone buy this thing, they are amongst the best of british made basses! Regards G!
  9. This is yet another example of a bass I'd snap up in no time if I had cash in the UK! Lovely bass! I'm not a big fan of swamp ash, but that sure is an exception! Would make the prefect gigging bass for me! Hope someone snaps it up soon! Regards G!
  10. Once again, I soooooooo wish I could get my money out of RSA and back to the UK! I'd snap this up in a jiffy! Good luck with the sale! This is the third bass in as many weeks that I'd give my left leg for!! Regards G!
  11. Thanks for your PM bud. I'm still looking into it, but don't think it'll be likely to happen anytime soon? Hope you get a sale! Thats one beaut of a bass, and for the money, an absolute give-away! As I say, had I of had the money back in the UK, I'd have grabbed this straight away! I'll let you know if I sort anything! Otherwise, someone grab this and put me out of my misery! Regards G!
  12. I would be very very interested in this, if I can just manage to work out a way of getting the money back to the UK (I'm currently in Cape Town). They don't make it easy for us! They're happy enough to allow our money from the UK here, but not the other way round! I'll be in touch if I can work something out? Do you find yourself in Liverpool often? My folks stay in North Liverpool. Cheers G!

Arrgh!! I really wish I still had money in the UK!! Warrior basses have always been my highest of choices (other than Shuker or Sei)!! I cannot believe that this has still not sold... Seriously guys, you won't get a better bass for the money! I'd snap it up straight away if I could!! Hope you get a sale quick!! Cheers G!
  14. I have to say I'm really not into either of those, and would much rather have the Pedulla. Then again, for the money the Godin goes for, I'd rather save the difference and have a Sei, Goodfellow or another Shuker made. By the time you've factured in all the extras like VAT, import duty, etc, The locally built basses would probably work out cheaper, look much nicer, and be to my own spec (whatever I chose), so that would get my vote. Still though, as mentioned, each to their own, and if you like it, who's to tell you its not worth it? Regards G!
  15. This is a possibility, but if an amp cannot give me the sound I want without the hiss, then they will not work for me. This was my experience with Eden, but not the case with any other higher end manufacturer, at least not to the level of the Edens I owned/tried? I'm a Sound Engineer by trade, so I know all too well the effects of EQ. If what I am doing with the EQ is creating hiss, then its because its amplifying whats already there in the circuit. Again, never had this issue, certainly not to this extent, with any other gear. The next most noisy amp I had was an EA iAmp350, but I think this was due to a dodgy repair after being dropped? Cheers G!
  16. Thats interesting? I don't remember there being a rotary attenuator on my Eden's, but it could just be my memory failing? Either way, I much prefered the horn/tweeter on the SWR and found it interfaced better with the low/mid of the 10's. Another aspect to consider though is that the horn on the 6x10 Goliath SNR is positioned much higher than the Horn on the Eden, so i'm sure that also affected things? I still found the Eden horns to be brittle and thin though. As I say, this is just my experience. This does not mean that Edens are rubbish cabs, and what works for one, doesn't necessarily work for another. If there were 'one' deffinative tone, then we'd all have the same cab and amp, and bass tone would be identical. I guess thats the joy of individualism? we get to shape our own sound to our liking. Our only prohibitors... Money and imagination. Cheers G!
  17. Hey guys! Haven't posted here in a good year or so, been mad busy, and not had the time to post..... I saw this thread though, and thought I'd share my experiences.... Over the years, I've owned a lot of gear, including both SWR and Eden gear. My main rig for a good while was a Goliath Snr, run with an Ampeg B2R head. I loved it. The sound was punchy, solid, defined. It basically enhanced the basses sound, and didn't detract any particular frequencies. I did find that the head tended to run out of steam though, and wanted to upgrade that. In the end I sold the whole rig and replaced it with a WT-800 head and 410XLT cab. I never got on with this setup, and found the cab very dull, yet brittle at the same time. Basically I had no mid range definition or punch. I also found that the Eden Heads had an annoying hiss when using the EQ to get the sound I liked. Something I've never had an issue with other heads. I then sold this rig and bought an Eden Metro 2x10 combo. This thing was solid. It sounded very good indeed, but again had that irritating hiss, albeit not as strongly as the WT800. At some point along the way, I picked up an SWR goliath Jnr 2x10, and hooked that up to the metro. This really helped the whole setup come alive, and the sound was possibly even better than my goliath Snr/Ampeg setup. This is of course apart from the hiss! A little while later I sold all these, and had another WT series head. I think it was the 600? Again a great head, but still the now ever familiar hiss! I tried to miniturise and go for an Eden CTC combo, and again the hiss was enough to put me off. If I was given the choice again nowadays, I'd get the SWR gear without a doubt. The horns are hot, but attenuable. So you can dial in the amount of high end snap, unlike the Edens. The 750x head I have played through but never owned, but its a solid head, and one that should do you well. Maybe another option would be the SWR cab, and an Ashdown ABM Evo 500 head? These are very versatile heads. Just my tuppence! Regards G!
  18. This pic shows the flaming a little better!! I have tried to track the origins of this body down... I bought it from Physco Andy originally, so he may be able to shed more light on it?? Either way, it looks like its a factory reject (it had some minor flaws in the finish, and then had been refinished over the top of these flaws), and could possibly even be a Lakland reject (Korean ratehr than USA of course)... So hence thats where the name Shukland came from, on account of the possible Lakland connection! Of course there is actually no way of proving or disproving this theory, so the name remains!! And the body as it was originally just after purchasing.... Enjoy!! G!
  19. Wow!! Some seriously nice basses there guys!! I have owned 3 or 4 Shukers, plus a bass body I had Jon build a neck for and kit out!! I call it a 'Shukland'!! I'll post the pics I have now, and then try and find the others!! Shuker 5 Custom Hollowbody.... Burr Maple Top.... Shuker 6 Elite.... Now residing with Mr. Knopfler's Bassist (forgot his name though??) Shukland 5.... Neck by Jon, and kitted out with Aguilar pre and Kent Armstrong soaps.... Thats it for now, but I have some pics somewhere of a 5 J bass, and I'm sure I had another, but my memory could be failing?? Regards Big G!!
  20. Hey Steve!! Long time no speak!! I've not been around these parts for quite some time, but the prodigal son has returned!! Lol!! I have to say your collection of basses has always impressed me!! I love that Spalted Spector (try saying that with a lisp!!)!! But as you well know its those Pedullas that I've always loved!! I really wish I'd had the cash for them when you were selling!! I always regret selling mine!! Beautiful instruments!! So I don't know if I'm miss reading this thread, but I'm finding it hard to follow what you still have and what you've sold?? Could you give a quick refresher list?? Cheers! G!
  21. Hey Darryll! Good to see you around these parts! Howsit hangin? I'm way out of the UK nowadays living in Cape Town South Africa! A LONG way from home! I do miss having great shops full of nice tempting bass gear like back there in the UK! Its just not the same out here! All standard gear really! Nowt Boutique or even much choice in the higher end gear! Anyhow, off my moaning streak! Good to see a familiar face round again! Cheers Big G (Gareth- aka Mr Goliath snr man)
  22. Hey Guys! Thanks for the nice words! I really can't wait to get a hold of it and play it! Don't think it'll quite beat the 5 string hollow body Shuker, but I'm sure its still great! I unfortunately don't know when I'm gonna get hold of it?? May be Christmas (when my folks come to visit CT for the first time), may be next June (When I come Visit the UK again!)? Otherwise, I'll look into shipping it if I can afford too? Think it'll be expensive tho! As for me, I'm just looking forward to the summer here which is approaching rather quickly! Enjoying the World cup Twenty20 Cricket which is here at the mo! Cheers Big G!
  23. Hey man thats a lovely bit o Shuker you got goin there! Makes me wanna get another! I really didn't think that Bubble Gum would make a suitable top, but it looks fantastic!! What flavour is it?? Cola Bubbliscious? Sorry, Bad one! Couldn't resist! Must get sense of humour Transplant! Enjoy! Big G!
  24. Hey Tech, are these still available? Are they 4 string pups? Cheers Big G!
