I’ve got 2 Sandberg Lionel basses that are pretty much identical other than the strings (and colour). Both alder bodies, maple neck with rosewood boards. They weigh the same to within 3oz. Both passive with Black label pups. They sound pretty different…the one with EBMM slinkies is smoother, less punchy, the one with stock Sandberg strings is much harsher - they’ll be coming off at the weekend.

A fairly quiet one at a social club on the outskirts of Huddersfield last night, a bit of a come down after last weeks bikers rally. Our singist really had to work it to get them up an running and even more to keep em up. Still nowt wrong with the odd paid practice. First outing with the new Sandberg Lionel, didn’t have chance to change the stock strings to my short scale slinkies but they did the job. Amazing how much difference they can make the sound on identical basses in a gig setting…first time I’ve done a direct comparison at a gig.

Thought I’d post the latest acquisition as not everyone peruses the short scale thread. This is a soft aged Lionel in gold that supplements my white aged version. I’d originally ordered a shell pink active one that was awesome but it unfortunately had a cosmetic defect and had to be returned, the gold one was taken in exchange. The shorties collection has now been reduced to these 2 and they are a good fit, sound, weight and playability wise for the current gig activities. Done spending now (hopefully)….

The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!

The original intent was an active Lionel, sadly I had to return it as it had a cosmetic defect, fortunately the vendor had the gold one in stock so I took that in exchange. I’m happy enough though, I’ve been gigging the white one for a couple of months and was so impressed I sold my Fallout and Mustangs and went for another Lionel. -

I got chills…they’re multiplying….. -
I'm using a Lionel VS4, virgin white, soft core aged - light as a feather and great sound. I've got another one coming this week, Lionel VS4 active, shell pink, not aged - unfortunately it had to go back a few weeks back as it had a cosmetic flaw which is now hopefully resolved. I'll post it on the Sandberg thread with a bit of luck.

Thanks Dave, it was, I used my Little Marcus to DI and monitors. Sound was a bit confused on stage - but managed. Used the Sandberg, still loving this bass even with the black label pup. It’s backup should turn up later this week - I felt exposed just taking one bass….

The very large tent didn’t have any doors…..

I’m in a Smiths tribute band as you can tell from this pic…..

Our favourite gig of the year at the Farmyard bikers rally at Helmsley. Middle slot on the bill so the crowd were well warmed up and singin and dancin from the first number. Looking forward to the official pics as we had no guests this time to photo and vid. Had an issue with the Smooth hound wireless set up - it couldn’t cope with the level of wifi interference and I had to swap to a lead rapidly after the second song, guess it’s time to look for a more modern set up.

I'd heard he was from Todmorden but when the American market couldn't get their heads around the pronunciation of the Fender Todmorden he had to cross the Pennines and change the names.

One of em looks distinctly scrotesque…

A 60th BD party at a social club on the outskirts of York last night. Normally I’m not a fan on ‘celebratory’ gigs but it turns out a number of the guests had supported us at bikers rallies around the patch so we had a cracking night. One thing though - why did we have to share the dressing room with a hoard of balloons (that were nothing to do with the event)…?

Done…

MarkBass set up Mick, little Marcus 500 with 2 x NY121. Fits in the Mini….

Bit late at the posting but a few pics have turned up from the weekend gig at The Peacock in Huddersfield last weekend. This was the first pub I played, as a dep at the time, with Glam Fever and it’s still one we look forward to.

That looks sweet. I love my fretless, this might be heresy but I prefer mine to the EBMM fretless stingray I used to own.

I consider it a tough market in the UK at the moment unless it's something on the current desirability hit list. There's a fair few US Fenders on the market so unless you price low you could have a wait on your hands.

One thing I did note when I was selling a bass a little while ago was someone who messaged me through FB Marketplace and made a pretty lowball offer. Now I recognised the name and while he didn't declare it I know he worked for a well known retailer and I concluded that he was looking to procure to put it through the shop. No problem with this but was irked that he didn't declare his affiliation.

Standard clubland this side of the border tends to be first set 45m followed by second 45m +15m. You'd be shot if you eat into bingo time lol

I tend to stick with silver and red-silver-blue sequinned converse Dave, I just haven’t got the head for heights these days.

An excellent condition Fullerton made short scale G&L Fallout Bass in Miami Blue. These were special editions made when the bass was first introduced, all with comp stripes and offered in Blue, Green and Yellow. This is one I didn’t think I’d ever sell but the consolidation exercise continues. No scratches, dings or chips that I can see as it’s been well cared for. There is one tiny mark on the tip of the headstock which I’ve tried to picture - fight with a Shure SM58. This has been more of a back up bass for me but used more on gigs where I needed the more powerful kick the MFD pup can deliver. This comes in a G&L gig bag which is made to fit the short scale. I don’t have a suitable box at the moment so would prefer a meet up/collection on this.
