  1. Is it me, or is the Classfieds slower than ever at the moment?  Noticing a LOT of stuff hanging around for ages that would have been snapped up not so long ago...

Haven't used EBay in a while, whenever I was buying I always thought pricing was optimistic...agree with Clarky on the 'chancers' though.  Currently selling my JMJ and FB market place is a joke....full of the 'I send handler to collect these item' crowd.

I agree Kev, I withdrew one earlier in the month after no interest at what I thought was a fair price.  Glad I did as I think it would have been a mistake to sell.

Just got one up now but can see that it could be a long wait on here.  I've changed my buying habits to compensate....

This will only end in bitter disappointment and/or a depleted bank account

  4. Just been told by HMRC that I paid too little tax in the last tax year. Great. As if money wasn't tight enough already, now I've got to find an extra 30p a month to give them. :(

I've been hit with that for the last couple of years.....never makes sense to me as I only worked for a single company and they did the figures.  Robbing barstewards....

We haven't broke our record this year though, a few years back we had to play it mid November....

Had to play it for the first time last Saturday.....audience wouldn't let us leave until we'd played it 😝

  9. Just resurrected my old mic stand (and when I say 'old', it still bears the name of a band I was in that split in 1988). Very rusty and creaky, but after disassembly an overnight soak in white vinegar and a clean-up with wire wool soon got rid of the rust on the adjusting bits, and with a bit of silicon WD spray here and there it's as good as... well, not good as new, but it's got a new lease of life.

Just retired my old mic stand to the bin.  Can't complain, it probably did 400 gigs plus with me....what surprised me is it's replacement weighed about half as much.

  10. It is with great sadness that I write this post, but my beloved Shaun died of a heart attack at the end of July, he was only 64. He loved being a member of Basschat and had forged some good friendships with fellow bass players. He will be sadly missed and I miss hearing him play bass from him room. Thank you for the years of joy you gave him. Louise (his wife)

I think all mid apostrophes should be banned unless they are an accepted contraction.  Vulcan names will be exempt of course.

Lovely spot Rich, I'm only 40 minutes away but rarely go.  Try and take in Chatsworth if you've not been before

Stop whining Kev, they only made 1 bass in fluorescent lavender pink large flake sparkle with competition stripe in 1996 and that went to a dealership in Alaska, you'll have to be less picky lol.

  19. Joined 11 years ago today....I had three basses back then. A 4 string, a 5 string and an acoustic...probably owned 50+ basses since.

You people have been a bad influence on me...😉😉

I think I joined before then, all of us on the old side were migrated across on the same date...sad that I remember something like that.

When I joined Bassworld (?) back in 200? I had an MIM Jazz and a Stingray and a positive bank balance.  Now I haven't....

  21. That disappointing moment when a name bassist whom you befriended and greatly admired chooses to belittle you on Farcebook when you take issue with their alarmist vaxx-skeptic views.

Closing that door with a heavy heart.

  22. Assuming you wanted the bass, would you buy a 5 string that weighed 10.4lbs?

    1. martthebass

      martthebass

I wouldn't buy anything over 9.5lbs these days no matter how good it sounded/played.  I just know that I'd end up selling it.  If a bass isn't comfortable for a 1hr set it's no use to me.

    1. It hurts.

    2. It really, really hurts.

Really feel for you mate, it was the sleeping (or lack of it!) that got me.  I found if I propped my neck/shoulder up a bit instead of lying flat it helped a bit but not enough to give me a good night's sleep.   Have you got private medical insurance, I know if you haven't it's nearly impossible to get anything done at the minute?

I had a bout of this in 2019, nothing the physio did sempt to improve the situation and the exercises didn't help a great deal.  As I'm allergic to Ibuprofen I couldn't take advantage of anti inflamatories either.  Thought I was going to have to say goodbye to bass playing with a strap.  As the gig list was a bit depleted last year for some reason, the shoulder seems to have settled and is now pain free.  Hope you get lucky Rich
