No probs, someone will no doubt be along to correct me but that's how it's always worked in my head! As for your amp, it's kind of the same - gain up until you feel it reacts best, whether that's slight saturation or the best signal/noise ratio, then output vol to taste. Usually the best place is so that the gain clip light flashes when you play your hardest, which is basically doing the same as an indicator on a compressor would do, except on an amp it overdrives the preamp, on a comp it starts to compress or limit.
-
It's why metering is useful on compressors like the MXR, but you can tell by setting your desired ratio and backing off the gain until it does what sounds best, probably upping the output to match. I'm not familiar with the Keeley but they mostly act in the same way. More gain in = more immediate crossing of the threshold into the ratio you set. Time to play!

Is this an input gain? You want to set the gain so that your bass sends enough signal to the compression circuit. Too low and the pedal won't do anything, too high and it'll squish too much. Once set you shouldn't need to adjust it again unless you switch instruments.

Yeah I know what you mean, it sort of gives a bit of ‘hair’ that makes the bass almost ‘feel’ louder if that makes sense!

Bought a pedal from Steve, flawless deal with super fast postage, thanks!

I did wonder about that... the Mutron feet are quite chunky squares of rubber so I wonder if they'd fit into the gaps, and if the gaps would be spaced appropriately? I'll get the tape measure out. The Bassballs is less of a prob as the feet are detachable with screws.
-
😆 you’d definitely know if a Mutron hit you in the head. Tbh I think you’d be in the big house on a manslaughter charge
-
Thanks I did wonder about that but the pedals are really heavy so I’m not sure if trust it!
-
Thanks mate yes that seems like the best option. I've nearly ordered a few times so glad I checked first! Hope you're doing well.

Swing and a miss for me; it would be quite tasty if the neck was more sunk into the body. Sort of like a J to the mustang’s P.

Aye I've got Elixir rounds on mine -
I must admit that I find a phase switch really useful (on my Valco KGB fuzz pedal) - seems to be something the LS2 is missing?

I treat each bass I've had as an experience which I am able to upload to my internal library of tone knowledge, and that helps me appreciate my next purchase and judge whether I want to keep it or not. At the same time I'm mindful about rose tinted spectacles and every bass I've sold has been for a reason. Sometimes I think I'd really like to play the Smith basses I sold, but then I remember why I sold them and can now better appreciate the qualities they offered which I did like in my next bass. Also - if you sell something and really regret it, then you more often than not have the fun of searching for another, safer in the knowledge that you're going to like it (instrument variances aside). Basically what @Beedster said. And that's how you end up with a hodgepodge mutilated vintage mustang, which anyone who plays it will know is the embodiment of everything that's good 😄

Strings on Pickup Poles clicking - anything better than tape?
ped replied to fretmeister's topic in Repairs and Technical
In the past I’ve used Dymo label tape to cover poles. It’s stronger, and removes without mess. -
Indeed I can, it’s a Mustang bass with a thunderbird pickup in the neck position and a rickenbacker pickup at the bridge. It’s what Fender would have called it 😂
