Who would you have it built by?
Not really sure, but I'm throwing some ideas out there to see who might be interested. I've never had a bass built for me before, and don't think I ever would have a 'normal' bass made for me as my preference is very much for a graphite neck. I'm just conducting some experiments with tunings and so forth but reckon it'll be a 5 string tuned DADGC. I did a really crap sketch on a whiteboard app last night to throw some ideas around with regards to shape and it might look something like this As I say, just an idea for now. The body will be 'wing' shaped, so rolled off at the front and back in an elliptical shape whilst the top 'cross section' will be flat, to accommodate the built in tuner flush with the body and possibly the headphone jack. The bottom edge will be shaped to feel comfortable on the leg (will probably play this sitting down mostly) with the 13 pin and standard jack on the 'trailing edge'. I also kind of want it to be red

I'm thinking about having one made here, but to my own spec and shape. I'd have a built in GK3b pickup so I can use a polyphonic octaver among other things, plus a built in tuner and headphone amp.

What are those 'hair bobble' thugs called on a bass?!
Haters gonna hate whatever, so I say: "Be proud and say that it's part of your technique." I choose to use this tool and I don't give a crap if people don't think I'm a great bassist. They're probably right anyway, but I'm enjoying myself.
They'd be wrong about that. You should be in the dictionary under 'awesome' -
I stick a bit of foam next to bridge for light deadening. Pretty much FOC if you have bought anything with a bit of packaging.
That's a different sort of mute, though. A wrap will only dampen open strings. -
Si Si Si , and I had so much respect for you OK I still have the utmost respect for you, but a Fretwrap does it a lot better as it surrounds the string like a nut slot does and does a better job of muting unwanted overtones etc.
Si just likes an excuse to pop into 'Accessorise' -

I was given one at some point and I use it on my fretless to help mask my poor tekkers -
Don't see why you couldn't as it's basically the same as sticking a capo on the 12th fret of a standard 5 string. I see Wingbass offer an option to have an EHX Micro POG built into the control cavity... Interesting!
That makes sense - maybe I should have bought it, I sent a 'best offer' but his counter was still to steep. It's gone now, who was it!
A smidgen of overdrive to add some extra harmonic content and growl.
I've been playing with this and do find it adds a nice warmth and bloom to the notes. Really tasty and can be quite subtle. It kind of gives you that growl over the whole range which sounds lovely. Personally I have an octave, stereo chorus with separate depth/speed for the high and low frequencies (shallower and faster with less clean mix on the top end). I also use some reverb, and switch between room and hall settings depending on what I'm doing, though live I don't use any. I also like a delay, slapping back at me with 50% of the original volume, again in stereo. I also find it handy to have the high mids at my fingertips so I can adjust the gain and frequency centre on the fly, which opens out lots of sounds. Most of the time though it's clean, rear pickup, reverb.

Yeah very expensive. I'd like to try one though but only if I could stick a GK pickup in it and control synths with it I think the scale length might pose problems though.

Was that refund burning a hole in your Payapl account

Stereo setup for bass practice AND listening to music
ped replied to lurkingbass's topic in Amps and Cabs
Wouldn't a really minimalist system would be a Zoom B3 (or similar) with an iPad into the aux, a bass, and headphones for monitoring?
I was going to say - like the OP I was looking for al all in one solution so I could play music and play bass at my desk. I ended up with quite a complicated system which works really well albeit using headphones rather than speakers. Basically: Computer + Bass --into-- VB99 --into-- HIFI + Headphones + TC BH800 into Tecamp Bassboard This way I can use the VB99 as a controller for the music on my computer, feeding the bass to the bassboard for some bottom shaking and the rest to the hifi, and when I want to play bass I simply plug it in and switch to a bass patch on the VB99 instead of my HIFI setting (with bass input off). I get full stereo effects and sound through the headphones and can record everything in real time on the computer and take off my headphones to hear it from the HIFI instantly. For a while I also ran two bass cabs in stereo from a power amp (also connected to the setup above) but found I much preferred using headphones. The cabs (SWR 4x8) sounded really good with music and bass, to be honest - though I can't recall ever being able to hear both at the same time very clearly. -
Hi, it was deleted by MB1 for some reason, he'll be along shortly to tell us why!

My VB99 has a Mutron III type filter with a down sweep. I haven't really played with it yet but I know you were looking into the Roland at one point... nice to hear from you, hope all is well

Yep Stuart is a good friend of BC and a very nice bloke. Glad you got it sorted and that BC was helpful to you. Always nice to hear
Thanks Gary I've tried what was suggested yesterday but no success. Its only BC i'm having any issue with. Dave
Hi Dave The only think I can think of is to delete your cache memory after logging out of BC, or just doing it anyway even if you can't log out. That could sort things out your end. Send me an email and perhaps I can log in as you and have a look at your settings though it seems the issue is at your end. Can you log in on your phone or another device to confirm that? Cheers ped
