All done! Basses now correctly spaced... I had to get a bit creative with what little foam I had, literally nothing could go to waste. I might get a big block of neoprene and do a neater job one day but for now this is solid.

No, it's completely blocked in by part B! I've given up - I don't think the lock will be used anyway; I'm sure someone could get into the case if there really wanted to. Instead, in an effort to reline and foam as much as the inside of the case as possible, I've foamed over the lock mechanism. The case is 100% snug and safe for my three basses now (I'll update with a pic when the glue is dry!)

Thanks folks. The slider (C) doesn't move at all, it's blocked by the flap (B) which sits over the numbers. Flap B does move up and down a little but it blocks C the whole time. Part A is the axle that runs through the lock and is sprung at the far end, but C still doesn't;t move because B is always in the way....

Hi folks I'm doing some fettling of my 3 bass flight case and it occurs to me that I've never used the combination lock. It doesn't seem to engage at all, the numbers spin but you can remove and close the lid, changing the numbers doesn't;t do anything. Is there a way I am missing to set the code and engage the lock? Here's what it looks like - nothing seems to move despite there being a little slider on the back that I assume is meant to work like a little bolt perhaps to set the lock - but it's blocked by the tongue which grabs the male part on the lid and although that flexes forwards and backwards it's always blocking the little lever... I don't really NEED it to work but thought it would be fun to work it out anyway! Cheers ped currently locked inside a case

Yeah it does sound nice - it’s definitely a more ‘plummy’ sound than the 70s spacing. I just don’t gel with it as much.

Good lad. I’ve always done it I think, feels really weird playing in E. strangely fine switching to a 5 string though but then again my five string is 16” scale so that’s the least of my worries

Another thing I like about David’s playing (I call him Dave, we’re mates) is that he plays a 4 string tuned to drop D, which I always do too - it makes his lines easier for me to play but mostly only cool people play in D

Cool tune!! That sounds like the back pickup of a 60s jazz to me, very tight and funky.

Ah that's great - I love it when that happens. I think I only found Shemeka through Dr. John - using DIscogs instead of Spotify, old skool. I'm also a Feat fan, and I discovered them because Warren Hayes with Govt Mule covered 'On Your Way Down' with Sonny Landreth! Govt Mule's Deep End/Deepest End albums are a brilliant window into tons of artists (Different bassist on every track).

It's one of the best things about a good 70s jazz I think - that rattle just sounds so sweet, and with a super low action you can go from bury to kind of a nailed clank which sounds especially good when it's just hitting a limiter. David controls that rattle really nicely, sprinkling it on some grooves like sugar on weetabix. Very addictive sound IMO. I can take or leave a 60s spring jazz sound - never really been happy with that tone.

How sweet is the bass on this tune. Bassist is David Barard who is a tone hero of mine. I first heard him playing with Dr. John and was blown away by his 70s Jazz Bass sound, to me it exemplifies everything I like about that sound with its open treble and clanky bottom end. I've finally got around to learning this tune and thought I'd share it because it's such a nice groove. @bubinga5 I think you'll like this album! Barard plays a Sadowsky and sounds pretty much straight to desk with light strings or at least a fairly heavy touch and low action. I love the fret rattle and the way the notes sound slapped when he digs in. I am able to get this bang on with my Celinder but my playing is nowhere near as tight! I think he's on Facebook actually so I might try to contact him, seems like a cool guy.

My advice - if it doesn’t sound great with everything flat, it won’t sound greater with a pre. Sweeping statement I know but you have to start off with a great core tone.

The problem is, I think, that the website shows the bass as 'sold' if someone buys it online, but if someone calls up to buy it then it'll show as in stock until someone manually updates the inventory. I had the same worry when I bought a bass I was desperate to find. I paid online and called the next day to check if I was indeed first, half expecting that the item was gone already. I was lucky but it was hard to sleep that night!! Just tell yourself that the bass could have been a dog and the right one will come along eventually...
