Stop it! Second gig with it last night and I got lots of compliments on the sound. Plenty of punch with clarity. By the time the third person commented the guitarist was getting jealous. Well chuffed!

The Roq Solid cover arrived this morning. It looks very well made and is a good snug fit. I ordered one with an optional front board pocket to give a bit of extra protection for the cloth grille, but the cover hardly needs it. The standard grade of material seems quite robust. I'm certainly happy with it

Absolutely. Our guitarist is handsome, witty, has a great singing voice and chops that guitarists come to watch. He has the "gift of the gab" and audience participation is a major part of our gigs. Bastard! But it does make even the crap gigs enjoyable

No, but I did manage to get GAK to match their very cheap prices, and therefore bought from a UK retailer that would be easier to deal with in case of any issues

That is dumb if that is the case. On stage volume should never affect the main mix. Ok, that's two negatives (1/4" jack instead of speakon for extension cab) but still a whole load of pluses

A lot of it is in your head too. Once you know you can do it, it becomes easier. Getting to that state is another matter though I find that often it's not the notes themselves but being on top of the song structure so you know what's coming up, and that requires concentration - especially when you know the song well

The one near miss bodily function incident I've had was very early in my "career" was to not take a "comfort break" before going on stage. I sprinted off at the end of the spot and just made it! In the years since I have developed a considerable bladder capacity

Another one to add to the list of bass players who are embarrassed by compliments. As far as I am concerned it's really only me that knows how well I've played and possibly my band mates. I try to take compliments with grace though and have a bit of a chat with them. I've never really been comfortable engaging with the punters but you want them to come back next time!

I'm trying not to GAS for a 1x15 extension cab. I really don't need one. There's a surprising amount of depth on tap for a 2x10

There again I use valve emulation on my multi-effects pedal most of the time (not had time to re-do patches yet) and perhaps the extra clarity of the amp made it easier to notice

I've still got to get used to it, but ended up last night with the gain on about 4 and the master on about 6 (not that there are any numbers to go by). This was on a hollow stage that ate a fair bit of the power and our rock covers trio about as loud as we get, so I'm fairly confident it should meet my needs for most places we play. As I said I'm still getting to grips with it. As far as I can tell so far it's like it has valve emulation all the time, so the gain has an effect on the tone. It's nice though. I'll have a further play with that at our next gig on Friday. The 'manual' doesn't say anything about that apart from to keep the gain low to keep it clean. It mentions it affecting distortion when vintage or overdrive is engaged.

[/quote] Definitely try one of these. I have just bought a 500 combo and it's very impressive. Light as a feather (36 lbs or 17kg) and plenty of power for pub gigs. Also available as just a head. It has sockets for headphones and mp3 player too. Very affordable too - you'd need to spend a fair bit more for a noticeable jump in quality.

I gigged it for the first time tonight and I'm impressed. I was wondering how it would handle the bottom end but it had depth in buckets - and no extension cab either. It had the punch of my old amp but with extended range and clarity. My first impressions of the overdrive were not particularly good when I tried it at home, but with the band and crowd rocking it sounded good and I used it on a few songs. I'm well chuffed - cracking night (once I'd got the mids sorted). Hopefully it will get even better when it's played in a bit

Packing up one night after a gig, I was loading the stuff into the trailer as usual having had a few shandies, and managed to trap my finger as I put down my cast aluminium Traynor head squashing it against one of the PA cabs. The pressure split the tip of my middle finger of my right hand (main plucking finger!), requiring 3 stitches. I still have a scar 20 years later. Oh how I laughed

Ooh! And there's progress on the SB1000 refinish. It's looking hopeful that it'll be there
