1. You have a very nice friend You have a very nice bass I've just put a set of D'Addario Pro Steels on mine - they sound great
2. Maybe it's to avoid any chance of the bridge lifting. The through stringing would have the effect of clamping the bridge to the bass - although that's usually the job of the screws
3. Animals is a great album for lyrics too
4. My Aria My Ric is going nowhere either
5. GAK got my combo back from Fender today. I've arranged for it to be delivered on Monday. Fingers crossed it works ok now
6. Living on a Prayer took some time to sink in. It's probably the repetition
7. Boredom can make people do bad, bad things, including music shop assistants
8. Anybody who is naughty on basschat is sent this bass and has to post a video of them playing it with their band to avoid being banned from the site - the Sawnplank Redemption
9. My Ric is my main gigging bass and occasionally my Squier P, which is usually the home noodler. The others don't often get a look in. In fact I will probably move one of the others on soon as it just doesn't get played
10. We don't generally do more than three gigs in a venue per year, and spread them out. So in reply to the OP - more venues less often
11. 14/15 - I got the 5 sharps key wrong
12. We try for at least 300 in pubs, won't go below 250. You've got to make it worth your while, especially for a covers band. Maybe do the first one at a venue for slightly less with the agreement that next time it's for more. Edit: We're a trio btw
13. You could rest the head of your bass on your music stand
14.
I'm looking into buying a couple of cabs & would like to know - Can the 210 cabs do the modern thing well or are they more suited to vintage, warm stuff ? I really favour cabs with good tweeters & good articulation.
The combo is pretty clean and punchy so I assume the cabs will reproduce pretty much any sounds you throw at them. The amp has a Vintage switch which does what it says - and that sounds good too
15. He wants you for his cult
16. To be fair to GAK, the amp is going back to Fender for them to look at. If Fender then send it back to GAK you would expect it to work correctly. I don't think that GAK would send out anything with a known fault, as handling a return would probably kill their profit margin
17.
Maybe I'm just too cynical - but it's odd it's the same problem on the same amp model from the same retailer......
Yours had the same issue - sounds like a speaker has gone but coming from the amp?
18. My serial number is ICTA15021950
19. Mine was working fine at first. I gigged it for around 20 hours before it developed a fault. The gigs on Friday and Saturday were ok, it started making horrible noises on the Sunday
20. Thank goodness for my trusty old Peavey Databass combo. I'd have been stuffed otherwise. I only got the Fender because of the age of the Peavey. It's gonna stop working one day
21. Hmm... if I get an extension cab it might be worth investing in a little class D head as a spare. I shouldn't have to though. They sound great but I'm starting to have doubts about the reliability.
22.
Nope, imo... but good construction is key.
As a novice I'll try to build it as good as I can. I'll start on something simpler for my first build (telecaster guitar) and hopefully pick up some skills before attempting a 5 string bass
23. It's got wood screws. If I try to screw it down further it starts to stress the pickup outer cover. There is some sponge in the cavity but there's not a lot of depth to play with and the sponge is pretty compressed already. It might well need the cavity routed deeper to allow a bit of adjustment
24.
Maybe, but I don't really care or rather, not so much my concern. The guy can either cut it within the confines of the band or we get someone else in. I'm all for being supportive, but there are limits and not being up to a required brief is one of them. If you can live with those confines, then fine..you have a way ahead, if you can't, then something will break.
That's it in a nutshell really. Either you commit to the band and do what is necessary - and that means proper practise at home, or you don't put yourself out there
25. Oh and another thing - the distortion isn't quite so bad with your new BB & that's what I used on the samples. The original BB distorts even more.
