Thanks for such a thorough post, BobBass4k. Those resources would be greatly appreciated! Ta

So is it that there isn't actually a single component in the circuit above that (once changed) can raise the frequency from 200hz?
  3. Smanth bought an amp from me. I was unsure about posting it, but Smanth arranged it all from her end (which made things MUCH easier for me). Smanth was positive in all communication and all payments were smooth. A credit to our community!

Ah yes - it’s for a fingerboard ‘clicky’ pickup for my very poor attempts at upright slap. The Shadow Rockabilly preamp has a switchable hi pass at 4k and 8k and I was hoping to replicate this.

Hi all, I want to build this: https://guitar-electronics.eu/en_US/p/High-Pass-Filter-HPF-kit-ULTRA/330 BUT - I want the cut off to be higher than 200Hz - more like 8kHz. Which component would I change to raise this? Thanks
  6. And to play devils advocate, I used to be an advocate of Surgical Spirit alongside my fellow orchestra player, until I saw the dried skin split on a gig. It was VERY unpleasant. I now try to develop 'leather' rather than 'plastic' fingertips, which involves occasionally moisturising the skin to keep it supple. This can, of course, cause issues with calluses and it doesn't really help in between gigs, but I personally wouldn't ever go back to Surgical Spirit.
  7. Its just a passive piezo so if you're not using an amp, you could try a tiny boost pedal, or EQ, or even a preamp that would give you tone shaping, such as a Fishman Platinum or similar.
  8. A few years ago I was doing quite a lot of work with a high-end acoustic group and we used to do mid-show busking things so I needed to be mobile and sound good. I put an advert out for a decent battery amp and Hellzero replied offering this AMAZING GSS Combo. Seriously this thing is so light (I wore it and played) but really has a presence. The speaker is 6", but I've just been listening to some electronic music through it and it has a real low end presence. I was looking for something more mid-focussed to cut through ambient noise and not be lost in blubbiness and this thing is a perfect mix. Yeah, it doesn't have much subsonic stuff going on, but for outdoor playing and acoustic playing subsonic is unnecessary... and then Tony (HellZero) purchased the cable that allows you to run any 8 Ohm speakon-equipped cab (two channel output on the tiny head!!!). I've run this with a 15" and the head is so tight and punchy. https://imgur.com/mmXe8iA https://imgur.com/t9vZ5up https://imgur.com/cMENWdx https://imgur.com/NbVT4Fv https://imgur.com/anU4xjX I'm based in Cumbria but I gig around. I can post it (Tony posted it to me) but I would MUCH rather meet up somewhere around the NorthWest. Here's some links for the full set of what is on offer (head, cab, battery and other accessories): https://www.guitarsoundsystems.com/gss-06b400-mini-bass-amp-c2x15043753 https://www.guitarsoundsystems.com/7s35v2-intelligent-lithium-battery-pack-for-guitar-sound-systems-mini-bass-amps-c2x18346407 https://www.guitarsoundsystems.com/speakon-cable-for-complementary-cabinet-connection-to-mini-amplifiers-ch1-c2x16356954 https://www.guitarsoundsystems.com/custom-padded-bag-for-gss-06b400-mini-bass-amp-and-gss-08gcxxx-guitar-cab-c2x14812542 And here's some of GSS' own promo material:
  9. A different idea - a Mic Muter from Orchid. Almost all mics will pop when reconnected. http://orchid-electronics.co.uk/Mic_Mute_lite.htm
  10. How about a J-Tone bridge-wing pickup and a Studiospares 458190 (discontinued so secondhand); that'd sort you right out! https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/jtoneelectronique https://www.studiospares.com/studiospares-di-boxpreamp-458190.htm It'd have a lot of tone shaping / phase options for a small amount of money and would (to a certain degree) mitigate the risk of feedback. Thanks
  11. Hi all, Twice recently I've needed a blend solution and can't find anything to suit so maybe I'll think of building a kit or my first breadboard. The situations are: 1. I want to blend a slap pickup with the output from my NS EUB. I'd need two channels, one for the 18v EUB output and one for the passive slap pickup (ideally with a ridiculous high pass filter). Each channel should also have either a volume or blend. 2. I want to put a thin jazz pickup on a Yamaha Silent guitar (Kent Armstrong or maybe Vintage Vibe). Again the instrument has an active output that I'd like to blend with the passive pickup. This wouldn't need a high pass but it would need volume/blend. Is there anything that you guys can suggest? It needs to be small as I'd like to mount it to the instrument. Thanks!
  12. Can I ask how you found it? Is it a friend or is there a selling source I’ve overlooked? I ask as I’ve recently been looking for one without success. thanks
  13. I recently bought a studiospares isocube and it seems to be adequately handling the acoustic isolation (HERE). There's an Aston Origin in the classifieds which I've used on DB before to good effect.
  14. I have some gear that, when off and connected to the PA, produces an almost inaudibly high whine sound. This goes off as soon as the gear is turned on, or if disconnected from a power source. I've always attributed it to earthing, or some kind of leakage of power into the audio circuit. I'm no electronician, but its consistent across a couple of pieces of gear in a couple of locations.
  15. I totally relate to this! Its worth mentioning that once I heard someone else play my bass, I again re-evaluated what my bass sounds like. Since the PA, the amp and acoustically the bass sounds so radically different, really I get to choose what the sound is for me, and beyond that its in the hands of the gods. I play in a country blues quartet, so there's a LOT of room for me in the sonic palette and I definitely take up the space with my NS or my doghouse, but your requirements may be otherwise. I recently bought an IR loader so I can further complicate things 😃 but realistically, balancing the feedback is usually my primary concern, then having a low end presence, then mid articulation. Different environments require different priorities, but having a cab pointed at MY head (on a cab stand) was a godsend.
  16. I hate gigging with a cab pointed at my calves so I’ve been using an amp stand like this for a LONG time. Whilst you do lose some low end when decoupling from the stage, with it pointing up you get more definition in the mids which, for me, is a reasonable compromise. Especially since I’m focussing on mids for intonation and articulation rather than low end. https://www.andertons.co.uk/guitar-dept/electric-guitar-amps/electric-guitar-amp-accessories/amp-stands/tourtech-tts-amp42-low-profile-amp-monitor-floor-stand
  17. What bass are you playing there? It looks tiny!
  18. Depends what you need it for. I work with a lot of acoustic instruments, so I have this as a spare: https://www.studiospares.com/studiospares-di-boxpreamp-458190.htm
  19. Are they still available? I can't find much online beyond here and TB
  20. Open mic nights are always a good way to meet new musicians, you just have to find a decent one. You also have to approach the runner and offer your services to back other players, and be prepared to watch all night if no one takes you up on the offer.
  21. 2 elements can lead to comb filtering so many prefer one element (I certainly do). The biggest factor in sound reproduction in these types of pickups is the pressure on the elements. On one of my basses I filed away a bit of the bridge and used a wedge of wood to adjust the pressure. It could be that there’s too much pressure or not enough.
  22. I use the Harley Benton Uke bass (fretless) which has a scale length of 21 inches which is slightly longer than the Kala ones, and the body is bigger which I prefer. And it cost £100 which you can't complain about. Bass: https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_kahuna_clu_bass_ukulele_fl.htm Case: https://www.thomann.de/gb/thomann_1_2_classic_guitar_gigbag.htm Its not the 23" of the Goldtone, but I find it easy to adapt to (but I play a LOT of different scale lengths so I've got used to adapting).
  23. Just wanted to say that in the loneliness of lockdown, I've really enjoyed receiving your likes on here. Thanks all.
