  1. Hi all. After gigs at the Hope & Anchor, Islington, and Fighting C*cks, Kingston next up is Fiddlers Elbow on Friday 8th April. Again a double header with The Vampirettes (crypt kicking lady rockers). Expect Americana-infused blues rock with tons of blistering guitar solos.
  2. Martyn P Casey of The Bad Seeds. Understated, always plays whats right for the song. Also owns the coolest 60s P bass ever (his stage bass for decades)
  3. Here it is with me a few years back at Spice of Life in Soho 🥲
  4. PS,if you go Jargars, take care. Some UK retail sites offer them without specifying the tension/model. You DEFINITELY need the Dolce version
  5. Well if you ever want to revisit the BassChat Kolstein circle of life, Jack, I would happily buy it back off you!!!! By far the nicest, travel friendly DB/EUB I have owned
  6. When I owned a Busetto (bought from Keith aka Mr Bassman) I regularly swapped between Heritage and Jargar Dolce strings (Keith had Jargars on the bass). Heritage are low in metal content and a decent hybrid string, while Jargars are steels but have in built dampening so they are thuddy and dark, about as gutty as steels can get. I also used Spiro Solos which are low tension but have that more steely, growly Spirocore sound. All 3 worked and it depends on how you really want to use the bass. For slapping, maybe the Jargar Dolces (like Lee Rocker). For more bluegrassy/blues work maybe Spiro Solos? Maybe worth chatting to @bassace or @Mr Bassman
  7. Rewind! Those are probably the stock Kolstein Heritage strings. Very hard to get hold of in UK. These?
  8. If it was light purple at peg end and red at tailpiece end that would be Spirocore Weichs. But I don't recognise light purple at both ends and that doesn't seem to appear in Gollihur's string identifier. Maybe ask @bassace what they are if you want to simply replace? https://gollihurmusic.com/string-identification-chart/
  9. PS, what (dead) strings are on the bass currently?
  10. If you want lowest tension Spirocores then its the 4/4 Solo set, tuned to orchestral (ie EADG).
  11. From a TalkBass thread in 2012. Yep, thats me
  12. Based on what I have read on other fora, I believe there is not enough metal mass on EPs to work with a mag pickup. Sorry Jack. Maybe try a low tension set of steels such as Jargar Dolce/Solo 3/4 (Stray Cats dude Lee Rocker uses these on his Kolstein Busetto) or Spirocore Solo. Or alternatively, ditch the mag pickup and use a piezo p/u so you can choose whatever strings you fancy. Lee Rocker reference:https://www.talkbass.com/threads/jargar-dolce.622445/
  13. And the digital scales next to the tape measure were to prove the Lull improved both quality and quantity
  14. Simon bought some DB strings from me and all was tickety-boo! Thumbs up from me
  15. Mike Lull 54P in a fetching shade of seafoam green. Formerly of @walshyand @busccini, now residing chez Clarky and had its first gig last night
  16. Are these still available? If so, please PM me your payment details
  17. Reverb has a few, though none in UK. This one in Belgium is the best priced https://reverb.com/item/44887406-fender-precision-1978-antigua
  18. If you wouldbe prepared to stretch to a modern Japanese reissue, there is this beauty (Jazz not P bass, but your items wanted ad said either) https://reverb.com/uk/item/50005762-fender-jazz-bass-rare-custom-order-ltd-edition-78-ri-antigua-finish-2019-mij-japan
  19. My others are (currently, lol) two Precisions. In all honesty, I prefer finger style on a P bass as its so easy to shift right hand position. I bought the Rick to play more pick-style rock. Might see how I get on at next gig playing majority of tracks with a pick?
  20. Quick question for the pick playing Rick owners: do you prefer the bridge pickup cover off or on? Reason I ask is that I haven't got around to taking the cover off my new-ish 4003S and I am finding the pickup cover really quite a comfortable hand rest for when I do play with a pick. PS, at our gig last week, the first outing for my 4003S, I played fingerstyle for 11 of 14 songs (thumb parked on top edge of neck pickup) and pick for the other 3
  21. According to the BC profanity filter, our next gig (18th March) is at the Fighting pink torpedos in Kingston
