Hey Mr Machines, how about a status update (not the graphite necked new model from Rob Green) on how much space has been freed up?

I would love my DB to sound like the woody, buzzy rich tone that Danny Thompson or the guy from the Wood Brothers gets. But its a ply back/sides Zeller student model, so it will never get near that. Amplified, however, it really sounds very good through my AI/EA rig and especially in a band context. I am guessing that were I to have a very expensive carved 19th century bass it would approximate to the acoustic sound I love but be no better than my Zeller when amplified and in fact more problematic with feedback. Horses for courses and depends on context, in short.

I have too many and am aiming to end up with 4: Fretless (Wal Mk1) Precision (YOB '63) Jazz ('Herbie Flowers' replica) 5-string P or J Am trying to sell my fretted Wal (which I haven't gelled with, unlike my fretless Wal) and will try to sell my seafoam green Bacchus '62 Jazz when I can persuade Mrs C that "a lovely colour" is not a good enough reason to hang on to a bass! Of course this list doesn't include my acoustic instruments (Eko bass, Zeller DB, Eminence EUB)!!!!

He may not have played on all the album tracks but he played all the well-known bass lines pretty well on the 'Live at Shea Stadium' album (apart from Guns of Brixton where he always swapped instruments with Joe Strummer)

I love his description of re-fretting a fretless neck as "putting back these bits" whilst pointing at the frets Legend and one of my favourite bassists

Sounds cool, Mike! I really like playing the Dublin Castle - the stage is a good size (unlike the 12 Bar!) and the sound was really good last time I was there

Normally mag pickups, unless they have some kind of screw or clamp arangement, are affixed with strong velcro or gaffer tape. I have a US-made equivalent (by Krivo). It has heavy duty velcro on the top edge and I have put 3M velcro tape at the end of the fingerboard to hold it in place.

Our next gigs in the diary are: 1. Upton Blues Festival - we are on the main stage on Sunday 17th July (6.20-7.35pm) - I will also be doing a half-hour acoustic set shortly before hand (3.15-3.45pm) with RB's singer Wily Bo, the lady singer who also plays sax, and our main tombonist 2. Arundel Festival - we are playing on Friday 19th August, onstage at 8pm

So thats why I keep getting ads for Jizz.com
