1. I bought this recently as I love Danny Thompson's playing with John Martyn and David Sylvian. It was recorded in 1991 (and it shows in the picture quality) but its really quite inspiring. Its a bit slow off the mark (reminiscences about washtub basses etc) but once he gets into playing 'Victoria' its wonderful stuff. In particular I had always wondered about his superb tone and sustain and I discovered that he raised the nut (making it very gruelling for his left hand) in order to deliver the sort of volume and sustain he gets with open strings. I reckon his left and right hands must be like Popeye's! No wonder my wimpy hands cannot deliver anything like his type of tone. Anyways for £8 its a snip, as long as you have a VHS player http://www.laceysjam.com/catalog/item/1812715/1375408.htm
2.
Is this Ehrlund GAS, Clarky? It might be an idea to hang on to your Full Circle for a while, no?
In one! I've dropped Daf a PM. Keith (Mr_Bassman) also suggested I hang on to the F/C to be on the safe side. Good advice from both of you. Nevertheless I will still try to track down some replacement wheels, just in case!
3. Thank you for that! I have dropped the retailer an email to enquire about the sizing
4. Bingo! Many thanks chaps. Gave the send/return sockets a good seeing to, as Gareth alluded to , and its ....Clouseau voice .... sol-ved ze prob-lem Yay for BassChat!
5. On hold, potential deal in the works
6.
US Precision, maple neck, perfect colour scheme for me. Clarky, what are you doing to me, this is as close to The One as I could ever wish to see. Dunno if I can raise the cash though - somebody buy my stuff, please.
John, I've sent you a proposal (not marriage) by PM
7.
Bizarre! I'm not sure if it could be relevant, but there's a common-ish problem with Walkabouts which results in the signal dropping out - the FX loop jacks oxidise over. Shoving jacks in and out of the send and return a few times to clear them solves it. Maybe give it a shot?
Thanks wot, will give it a try later today
8. Two more pics (as earlier pic a bit dark to show the true colour):
9. Mrs C recently bought me this gorgeous US Fender Precision for my birthday in a rare colour which is akin to a pale seafoam green (its actually a faded pale duck-egg blue colour - lighter than sonic blue - and I've not seen another like it). I already have a Precision (my 63P which is 'the one') and would prefer a Jazz as my second bass. Hence I have tracked down a Jazz in a faded sonic blue which I should be able to sneak past her so she won't notice the switch ... So I am selling this for £650. Fantastic condition bar one ding on rear near the ferrules which is not through the paint Collection in London or post for £15 (can only post Mondays or Fridays). Comes with Fender hard case More pics on request
10. No worries Keith! Thanks for looking
11. This does not come on at all even if you leave it for several minutes, unless I boost the gain and master and then drop back. It's very odd. I wonder is it a pot problem, a problem with cab compatibility or a straigt electrical fault?
12. I recently picked up a used Mesa Walkabout from the forum. Very quickly it developed a very annoying fault. That is, when I switch it on there is no volume and even touching the end of the instrument lead with it plugged in makes absolutely no sound. By trial and error I have discovered that if I turn the gain full on and turn up the master volume to max it jumps - LOUDLY - into life. I can then roll off the gain and master and use as normal. So does anyone have any idea what is happening here? It's very odd and very frustrating and I worry about the damage to my cab that starting on max will do?
13. I am thinking of replacing my Full Circle pickup but this requires me to replace the bridge wheel adjusters. I can only find them on sale in US or at a vastly inflated price (£40 or more; more than twice the US price) by one or two UK retailers. Does anyone have any spares they are happy to sell me? Cheers Clarky
14. I watched Kit, ably supported by Nige and the crew, at the Half Moon in Putney recently. Very good stuff but - for me - it would be a lesser spectacle without Nige's trademark black leather trousers and chrome-bling Warwick
15. Blimey that takes me back to my first year at Uni when everyone owned 'Nightbirds' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8k0EytNHQ7E
16. Skank, you missed one genre: * Midget tribute bands * http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCl4PbeaOQ4
17.
All things Bob has a good guide, you could take the non-pickup side off to check.
Thanks for that - looks very helpful
18.
Those adjusters will be 1 of 3 sizes Clarky; UNC 1/4-20, 6x1mm or UNC 5/16-18. If you have the original package it will tell you. You can buy adjusting wheels accordingly.
Thanks TPJ, unfortunately the FC came installed on the bass so I have no idea which size they are
19. Well drurb on the Talkbass thread has just reported back after using the Ehrlund with a Big band and is raving about it. Sounds the way to go. Just got to figure how I replace the Full Circle wheels on my bridge with identical size adjusters ....
20. ..and I wouldn't mind that stripped 63J to match my (year-of-birth) 63P What a drool-worthy collection
21. The nicest low tension steel I have tried are Kolstein Heritage. Not massively pricey (cost just over £100 if you import from Gollihur's in US). Cheapest option will be Innovations
22. I learned about six songs for my auditions for Rattlin Bone and All The Queens Ravens. I reckon that's plenty to demonstrate commitment and your abilities. Best of luck matey!
23. Jonas Lohse at Kontrabass Atelier in Germany sells the Ehrlund with a shortened cable and a different jack, maybe for the reasons highlighted on TalkBass?
