1. It is a brilliant line. But not tremendously difficult to execute. I love this girl. I want to marry this girl! She's good. But great? There are tens of thousands of people who can copy existed parts well. But most aren't this cute. : )
2. I'm not sure how this is different from just playing along with the radio or anything on youtube?
3. I never keep the dials all the way for this reason. It's good to have headroom when you need a boost. .
4. I wouldn't think it so, but it sounds like an Ibby 5 string. Personally, I feel as if Sabbath have been copying themselves since the second album. (The first album is a masterpiece). Now, they're older and trying to add a little modern sensibility to their sound and it's just boring to me.
5. I own a Ray, a nice one, and have to admit, some of those budget sub stingrays sound just as good.
6.
I've not listened to it yet. But I will.
I never understood why people say this. It takes a minute. If you haven't done it, why comment? Anyway, I don't think opinions should be based on whether anyone likes the song or not -- that's subjective. If you're looking for musical critique, it should have an explanation. So here's mine. I think it's nice -- not my cup of tea since I like big, hooky choruses, but it's got a good vibe and a good sound. The singer has a nice voice. I'd do a few things differently in regard to arrangement and production, but that's another topic. (One example would be not to have background "aaahs" with just one voice. It should be in harmony). If I were to put on my producers hat I'd say the big flaw was the drumming. It sounds very amateurish. It makes an otherwise pro recording sound like a demo. And oh yeah, could use a little more bass. : )
7. You might be surprised how much you can improve what you heard. But you have to recognize and accept it first. Then go about fixing it, that's all. In the meantime, some inspiration. (Keeping in mind, he's a god). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DUsVx5y5fs
8. Just remember, a diamond studded steering wheel would make the car more expensive but not necessarily any better.
9.
Your whole argument revolved around me being a whinger, and saying i was quitting. As i have said, i have no arguments over whether i am a whinger, that is your interpretation. If you are saying i should give up now as i said i would give up in 4 years(yes it was not meant to be taken seriously, i must use emoticons more ). But even if it was meant seriously, i think giving 4 years is a giving it a good go, and if i still couldn`t play, then i think most people would agree, i should give up.If i went to a tutor, and said , i am struggling, but i am giving myself 4 years to learn a song, i would hope the tutor would say, fine, we could have a good crack at that, as long as you don`t whinge that it is too haard. On the other hand, you would say, as you are going to quit in 4 years time and a whinger, you may as well quit right now. So yes, i think you are putting words into my mouth by telling everyone on the forum that i said i was quitting
You're still whining. Go practice.
10.
Go on then, where did i say i was quitting, or even threatening to quit? Can you show me where please?
Maybe this will refresh your memory. "If i can`t play something like Freebird, Lynyrd Skynyrd in 4 years time, i will give up. " Maybe you were kidding. At any rate, if you want it, you;ll keep doing it and you'll get as good as you can with the effort exerted. It's as simple as that.
11.
Stroll on mate.
Nice try.
12.
Yeah, it isn`t nice having words put into your mouth is it
It wasn't I who put any words in your mouth. I just can't take anyone who's been playing for a few weeks and threatening to quit seriously. You say it's hard. What did you expect?
13.
OK cool. So why did you talk all that sh*te then, inferring incorrectly that he had not enough passion, and telling the guy to give up because he said all this new information sometimes feels too much to handle? Believe me, I have great passion for music and the times I have felt I can't handle all the information being fed to me are very many. It's because of passion that I kept doing it and didn't give up. If a tutor had told me I should just give up because I didn't have enough passion I'd have felt crushed and even more doubtful of my abilities. It takes a long time to get over that, I am still greatly lacking in musical self-confidence because I appreciate the possibilities of our chosen art and craft are limitless.
You keep missing the point. It's fine. Let it go. Just don't use your confusion to put words in my mouth, okay?
14.
And this is entirely why you should not teach.
I do teach and I'm excellent at it. And my students like me. Many have stayed for years. So...you're wrong again.
15. This is obvious in response to my post in the other thread which was misunderstood. I think it's important to encourage when someone shows effort. I do not believe in coddling someone who's been playing for 4 weeks is whining how hard it is. I realize also that whenever anyone has a difference of opinion or adds any perspective that isn't in concensus with the majority, it's considered trolling. My point remains -- when someone is enthusiastic, they'll love the process and nothing can stop them. That deserves encouragement. If they ask questions...that deserves encouragement. If they complain how hard it is and say they may give up...let them give up.
16.
I understand perfectly thank you. Unbridled joy and passion when learning an instrument is your pipe dream, it is not reality. Throughout any decent musician's life frustration, plateaux, and failure to understand meaning and purpose of teaching will be (or should be) a regular feature. Advising someone to abandon their new found instrument because their feelings do not match your theoretical posturing is totally ignorant and irresponsible. People like you seem to be happy to make your pronouncements without realising the effect they can have on people. You really ought to bone up on your subject matter before makeing these ridiculous misleading statements.
Obviously you did misunderstand my points. It's okay though.
17.
I'm sorry but this is a load of cack. It's very irresponsible too. People need encouragement and reassurance, not this ill-advised depressing drivel.
Sorry but it's your post that's drivel. I made a valid point. Perhaps you just don't understand it.
18.
IMO, the OP is a little overwhelmed by the amount of musical knowledge to be "discovered". This is a natural reaction, when you are full of enthusiasm. You get frustrated and disillusioned when progress is not happening fast enough. A little encouragement from people who have been there and did that, is quite natural to seek out. The only reason he is talking about giving up, is because he is trying too hard. People here, are merely trying to get him to adopt a different approach and mental attitude.
I disagree completely. When starting an instrument you should be filled with wonder and joy and passion for what you're doing. The reason it's best to start an instrument isn't because you learn faster when you're young. You actually learn faster in your 30's. But when you're young you think whatever you do is amazing. And when you're young nobody can talk you out of doing it, no matter what. If that isn't there, no amount of encourgement will make a difference. The OP is looking for a reason to quit. Let him.
19. If you're thinking of giving up, do it now and save yourself a lot of trouble. Learning an instrument should be about discovery, growth and enjoyment. You will get as good as your ability will take you. If you aren't experiencing those things, it's not for you. If you are, you don't need to be encouraged by anyone else but yourself.
20. You're playing for 4 weeks? COme back when you're playing 4 years. That's when you start to realize it's even harder.
21.
As per title. After much. much time and effort, my rig has finally pretty much come together. Basses .... happy. pedals ...... happy, just maybe one to change. Amp .... happy Cabs ..... happy It's clearly great in one way but almost feels like a bereavement in that I really love the whole process of researching and trying out gear and I will miss it. I love the whole "gear thing" pretty much as much as I love playing the bass. Maybe I'll have to take up another instrument as well ! serious note ... Please do not misinterpret my simily to the genuine loss of a loved one which is, of course, usually far, far more difficult and painful.
Start collecting cheap guitars. VM squiers and epiphones are good and affordable and will open up a new world to your bass playing. .
22. This is far worse. @ 0:49 -- "What key are we in?!?!"
23. Every 70's dico band? j/k I don't want to sound like I'm busting on them, but I find the appeal of that band curious. I get the fact that bassist like them because the bass is busy and mixed way up front. And the grooves are great. But the songs sound oddly outdated. The melodies are weak and not particularly catchy. And after 3 tracks I can't tell one from the other, To the OP, I'd suggest a "Best of Disco" compilation along with James Brown, Stax and Motown recordings. That'll have everything that Jamiroqui tries to sound like.
24. Never heard of them but the timing is awful. Clunker keyboard chords too.
