1. He likes his relic fenders this guy. A single ply white guard? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...#ht_1420wt_1141
 2. Just sent this question to the seller, "Hi Just been looking at your pics and am a bit confused to the parts on the bass? The headstock logo is from the late 50s, silver spaghetti type and usually on the 50s reissues but the machine heads dont look like anything Ive ever seen on a Fender. On a 75 bass I would expect to see the large font "TV" style logo with "Fender Precision Bass" written almost full length of the headstock, also the machine heads would have a large plate stamped with Fender on. The neck plate should also be stamped with a large F too? Do you know if these are original to the bass at all? I'd like to bid but would like to make sure of the origins of the bits thanks. Best wishes"
Sorry to hijack your thread, and this may be a stupid question, but where do you connect the earth plate to?
The earth connection from your pup onto one side and out from the other to the back of your vol pot so the whole plate is part of the earth circuit. Like this Cheers Dave
 4.
Don't know if this has been posted before but I thought everyone might like this: http://vimeo.com/4041788 Due to the shutter speed of the camera I believe. I seem to remember you can get similar effects when filming propellors
If you hold your bass up to the tv screen and look across the strings and pluck you get a very similar effect
 5. This came out of my 65 P, not sure if its original, seems to be with compacted foam with no spring in it but i have no way of telling. I bought a new Pup off The Bass Doc which came with the plate all soldered up. Not sure what these are worth but I have this on ebay for £10 plus postage Cheers David
 6.
The one thing I think is different with the pre EB situation compared to pre CBS is the fact that the models are quite different mainly the slab body where to me the P bass didnt change as much during the transition. The MM has a much clearer line in the sand. I dont mind mods (I would never touch my pre EB with tools other than for maintainence though) and Denmark street clearly state them but the advice that the preamp is original seams awful to me. The fretless in the other link has been about for ages though and I guess it was the binding that gave the game away to the none original FB. The irony is that the one in Denmark street was fretless and had frets added and the other may of been fretted at some stage!
Yeah sorry Pete, I didn't elaborate very well. I just recall the same thing with fenders that had been attacked/modded and people trying to sell the at top prices. At least that seems to have settled a bit into 2 separate markets and price brackets for original and modded with people knowing where they are at. I like you wouldn't touch a modded instrument unless it was something i could restore easily. And I know what you mean about stores, I have been at the end of some spiel about this or that made up fact to justify the price of an item, I dont know whats worse, someone who thinks youre mug enough to believe it or them believing it and pcb on a 77 is beyond belief though.
 7. I think you are spot on Pete. Unfortunately we are at the point Fenders got about 30 years ago (about 30 years after prod started) and people seem to get a touch blinded by the Pre EB dates and will almost hysterically part with cash in the hyped frenzy to own a "classic bass that will only go up in value" But like people have found out with Fenders, Its only the completely original instruments that will be worth their value to a collector. ANY mods will seriously devalue it (obviously subjective). However if the mods are what you are looking for and the price is right its a great buy for you.

 9. Cant believe this is still here? One of the best looking Rics and with almost vintage age appearance about it seems bargain to me.
 10. Sounds like it could be a Marshall Guvnor or RAT distortion to me?

 13.
As is often the Basschat way I've sold a lot off and bought a couple of new (to me at least!) basses so I thought I'd re-do my old Hot Burrito thread to show where I am at and more importantly to just show it all off!
Beautiful collection. There is something almost zen like about a grouping of Fenders, almost like the sound of the rain or crashing waves, the way they calm your soul

Mmmmmm Bassman
Here you go. As I said, mine's a bit worn in, unlike yours, but it's a real player.
This bass plays like a dream, I went to try it out, wish I bought it now

 15.
Overwater! David, that's an immense collection. I need to book you into a teleconference with my wife. The topic: basses as a a sensible investment choice in these troubled times.
Thank you, Lol TBH thats what they are for, its a pension plan and tax write off plan. When I retire they bar, about 5 will be all sold off.
 16.
...I honestly hate you! Throw in a MM maple neck double buck and I'd give up Friday nights with Angelina Jolie for that collection!
If you bring her round here friday night mate, I'll find that HH for you some how
This thread is... well, GAS-inducing. The Guild is brilliant, if missing some frets; and cd_david, you must tell me what the vaguely Explorer-shaped bass is - second in from the left.
Hi Gust0o Its an Overwater "Original" its a single humbucker passive thru neck all mahogany construction built around 1985 I think? Cheers Dave
 17. Day off, dogs been to the beach, time for me to play Stingrays Fenders Overwaters Rickenbackers Copies Got about ten of those ugly 6 and 12 string things but i dont want to dirty the settee, which is from DFS i think.
