1.
This Fender Am. Std. followed me home a few days ago. It plays great. I was going to change pickguard to Parchment. I'm getting to like the tortoise shell more and more.
Its a stunner. I would leave the tort on.
 2.
Wow, that is absolutely gorgeous Dave. Where did you get the headstock logo from and what tint has been used on it to achieve that beautiful finish?
The logo was on the second hand neck when i bought it, not sure of its origins and the tint i presume is just a yellow colour in the laquer?
That is a beautiful bass. Very nice.
Thanks very much. Unfortunately the truss rod is buggered so the neck hunt has to start again
 3. No pick here either cool looking bass

 5.
I reckon it all depends on what you're after, and how much control you want. If you're running a full rack compressor, EQ, BBE, you've got a monumental amount of control... I bought a POD XT and was very disappointed in the 1 knob to adjust "compress"... so I kept my 19" compressor plugged in. If you're used to what is effectively a "studio sound" through a good cab, then there's potential that there may be a modern lightweight head/cab that deliver just the same sound.... you'd just need to find it.
I know what you're saying but I have no need/ want to look. I buy and trade basses like a bugger, but have only ever gigged 3 in 20 years, the rest are investments. I reckon I must be gas free tbh. But going back to my original thought would manufacturers provide a better service with by allowing a try before you buy system, do you think bassists would be more content for longer. Another observation, there seems to be a lot of people buying and selling matching heads and cabs, do you think its better to mix up manufacturers amp and cab products?
 6. Its a weird one this, nothing more than me thinking out loud. I have had the same old rack set up for about 18-20 years. All decent but simple stuff that's available in on head amp package now, comp, eq and BBE. I have also always carried big heavy boxes for cabs. Maybe Im lucky and hit on a sound I like but I have no inclination to buy or try anything else out. To be honest its my sound and i know it so well, anyone else's rig I've played through just doesn't have the detail i can hear in mine, but that's all subjective. Anyway my thoughts were about the large turn over in new amps and cabs in this forum. Is it buy and then try due to lack of suitable listening environments in shops, if so why isn't there a greater use of "loan" stock like the Barefaced cab that's doing the rounds? Is it technology or fashion, I'm not knocking just wondering. I have no idea but it must be expensive, anyway mull over.
 7. Gary bought my P pup. Great bloke to deal with, super and easy deal. Cheers mate Dave
 8. Bought a double stand of Ad, great bargain, great stand and unbelievably fast delivery. Highly recommended. Cheers mate Dave

 12.
My first picture of all three Rays together! Im looking forward to the spring so I can get them photgraphed outside in the sunlight as the Blue Pearl and the Teal Green really look much better in the flesh.
When i used to dream of owning a Ray (usually when out running along the beach) it was always a maple neck teal with black guard.
 13. He likes his relic fenders this guy. A single ply white guard? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...#ht_1420wt_1141
 14. Just sent this question to the seller, "Hi Just been looking at your pics and am a bit confused to the parts on the bass? The headstock logo is from the late 50s, silver spaghetti type and usually on the 50s reissues but the machine heads dont look like anything Ive ever seen on a Fender. On a 75 bass I would expect to see the large font "TV" style logo with "Fender Precision Bass" written almost full length of the headstock, also the machine heads would have a large plate stamped with Fender on. The neck plate should also be stamped with a large F too? Do you know if these are original to the bass at all? I'd like to bid but would like to make sure of the origins of the bits thanks. Best wishes"
 15.
Sorry to hijack your thread, and this may be a stupid question, but where do you connect the earth plate to?
The earth connection from your pup onto one side and out from the other to the back of your vol pot so the whole plate is part of the earth circuit. Like this Cheers Dave
 16.
Don't know if this has been posted before but I thought everyone might like this: http://vimeo.com/4041788 Due to the shutter speed of the camera I believe. I seem to remember you can get similar effects when filming propellors
If you hold your bass up to the tv screen and look across the strings and pluck you get a very similar effect
 17. This came out of my 65 P, not sure if its original, seems to be with compacted foam with no spring in it but i have no way of telling. I bought a new Pup off The Bass Doc which came with the plate all soldered up. Not sure what these are worth but I have this on ebay for £10 plus postage Cheers David
 18.
The one thing I think is different with the pre EB situation compared to pre CBS is the fact that the models are quite different mainly the slab body where to me the P bass didnt change as much during the transition. The MM has a much clearer line in the sand. I dont mind mods (I would never touch my pre EB with tools other than for maintainence though) and Denmark street clearly state them but the advice that the preamp is original seams awful to me. The fretless in the other link has been about for ages though and I guess it was the binding that gave the game away to the none original FB. The irony is that the one in Denmark street was fretless and had frets added and the other may of been fretted at some stage!
Yeah sorry Pete, I didn't elaborate very well. I just recall the same thing with fenders that had been attacked/modded and people trying to sell the at top prices. At least that seems to have settled a bit into 2 separate markets and price brackets for original and modded with people knowing where they are at. I like you wouldn't touch a modded instrument unless it was something i could restore easily. And I know what you mean about stores, I have been at the end of some spiel about this or that made up fact to justify the price of an item, I dont know whats worse, someone who thinks youre mug enough to believe it or them believing it and pcb on a 77 is beyond belief though.
 19. I think you are spot on Pete. Unfortunately we are at the point Fenders got about 30 years ago (about 30 years after prod started) and people seem to get a touch blinded by the Pre EB dates and will almost hysterically part with cash in the hyped frenzy to own a "classic bass that will only go up in value" But like people have found out with Fenders, Its only the completely original instruments that will be worth their value to a collector. ANY mods will seriously devalue it (obviously subjective). However if the mods are what you are looking for and the price is right its a great buy for you.

 21. Cant believe this is still here? One of the best looking Rics and with almost vintage age appearance about it seems bargain to me.
 22. Sounds like it could be a Marshall Guvnor or RAT distortion to me?
