I put a £20 set of flats on my MIM Jazz on Tuesday night and so far, they’re actually pretty good. I’m pleased to say that the bridge pickup didn’t instantly stop working the minute they were fitted too, and when I picked it up on Wednesday, it hadn’t turned into a P Bass 🙏

Thanks for everyone’s suggestions and advice. I’ll take a look over the weekend. @Chienmortbb I’ll drop you a DM now. Very good point from everyone regarding storage. Up until a couple of months ago. All cables were stored (squashed) into our Stanley lead (tool) box. I’ve now made a point of splitting out our vocal XLR’s in a hard case with the vocal pedals. And guitar leads are now stored in guitar gig bags. Mine are stored in my box with my B6. The newer XLR cables with vocals are coiled in a circle and Velcro wrapped, as our my bass leads. But, the other (and all up until recently) are figure of 8 and wrapped around themselves. I was taught this was the correct way of doing it when i was younger. But, recently, working with some Stage management companies, they all seemed to circlular coil theres. Thanks all. Alex

I’ve put a very cheap set of flats on my Jazz last night in one last attempt to like flats. For me, they play/feel great, I just can’t seem to enjoy the sound. I very much like the sound of old Rounds, but not the brightness of new rounds, but dislike the feel of old rounds under finger. So, I’m trying these cheaper flats as they seem to have decent reviews and if no joy I’ll be trying the IMA super polished or some half rounds. For my ‘working’ bass (which is short scale) I just use EB rounds and change them every 6 weeks or so. I’ve never enjoyed the sound of flats on a shortie in the past. Look forward to hearing how you get on live with the rounds!

Apologies if this is something that has already been covered on multiple threads (but hasn’t most stuff?) But, I’m looking for 1/4” cable recommendations, AND XLR recommendations, preferably a company that offers some warranty on the products. We’ve been smashing through Fender guitar leads over the past 12 months and we’ve been having a few issues with XLR’s and I realise it’s probably because we just replace cheap rubbish with more cheap rubbish. So, I need to upgrade our cables. Any recommendations appreciated. TIA, Alex

Ha, you’ve triggered a forgotten memory! As teenagers, we supported a rock covers band in Darlaston. My dad drove us all home to Telford. When the guitarist got home and went to take his £150 Epiphone Les Paul Special out of it’s generic Gator case, he couldn’t believe his luck… It had transformed into a rather ugly but very expensive Parker Fly. A few phone calls later and my poor Dad was in the car on the way back to Darlaston. Safe to say the guitarist was a mix of relieved and frustrated. he’d only had it a few weeks as an anniversary present if I remember rightly, and had spent about 2 hours in uproar thinking it had been stolen!

For the duo stuff I can highly recommend the RCF Jmix 8. We also use a J8 alongside it but the Jmix8 has done the job on its own plenty of times too 👍

Thanks. I’ll take a look. Down the line I think I’ll try a few different sets and see what I land on. I’m just trying to enjoy it as it is at the moment but I’ll get round it at some point. That said, i think I said the same thing about my Jazz Bass and I’ve still not changed them. I bought that in 2003 😅

Well, I finally got the Pickguard/scratchplate/Bit of clear plastic off (whatever it’s called)… I like it a lot. I might try the card trick as mentioned by @ezbass with some black card to see how it looks down the line but I do like it off for now. Got to say, I’m really enjoying this bass. The neck is superb! It’s a joy to play. As previously mentioned, the tone doesn’t blow me away and I’ll likely swap out the pickups in the future for something with more ‘growl’, but it does have its own unique sound, albeit a little reserved. I’ve committed myself to learn to read music this year outside of my gig stuff. And, I’m getting half decent. But, after getting this, it’s been like starting again. But, I’m really enjoying the process of learning, by forcing myself to fret more notes rather than open strings which is helping me familiarise with the B string more. Anyway, life story over, this thing is cool!

Yamaha TRB & Ibanez GSR shaped basses. I know they’re probably very good. But they make you look like you’re a beginner and are playing a bass that came in a starter pack.

Any experience using wireless guitar systems alongside wireless IEM systems? We already use Shure PSM300 wireless IEM system and would like to introduce wireless guitars and eventually microphones. Slightly cautious that there would be too much going on and they would interfere with each other? Any thoughts from anyone who’s used/uses both? Also, has anyone any experience with the AKG WMS40 Mini Dual Guitar systems? These look like a good option due to only needing one main ‘hub’ but I’ve had bad experiences with cheaper wireless systems in the past and wondered if anyone can recommend the AKG stuff? Agreed, it’s definitely coming off, I just haven’t had chance yet. Although personally don’t mind it terribly as is but I do think I’d prefer it off. Or, I quite fancy a black one in the future to match the hardware. Just haven’t had chance yet. Flat out with gigs and it’s school holidays. So if I’m not running around after the kids or gigging, the odd practice time with my bass is spent playing it! 🙌

Can’t comment on the SR but it’s not far off my Jazz. Took a few side by sides for comparison.

Damn this Forum! Since @fretmeister posted his P basses, I can’t stop looking at P basses. I don’t even like single pickup basses and I’m very much enjoying playing the bass I bought 2 weeks ago. In fact, I have absolutely no need for a new bass and already have a P/J should I want/need the single P. But still, can’t stop googling ‘em! I will resist, I will 🥲😬😆
