They are very affortable ( >£100!) and I'd honestly say they are competative with Squire basses. If you manage to get one on the 'Deco Only' offers they are even cheaper. Depending on the model you can sometimes find them for as little as ~£30 plust P&P. I have a Harley Benton MM copy 4 string, It plays nice enough. However, I had the opposite problem with the pickups that they were so hot i could not play the thing live without getting some major feedback (Ive always wanted to fit some new ones but never got around to it), But i may have a look just for something cheap to play at home until i can get round to getting something else. My main bass i've used for years is an MIM jazz bass so id imagine id probably find the Squier's to be fine. The VMJ stuff looks really nice. Thanks

Evening all, Not sure if this has already been discussed but I've been neglecting all things musical as of late (approx 2 years). The good news is, After my break my musical side is fully re-fuelled and inspired... The bad news is I have returned with major GAS for a 5 string. I have been browsing the market and looking at basses and really like the look of the SUB V as I've always wanted a MM, However.. Today i came across the Squier Dimension Deluxe V and really like the look. I've read some stuff on here that leads me to believe Squire are no longer the Argos Stocked brand I thought they were and that some of their newer stuff is half decent. I've never seen the Dimension before and wondered if anybody has any experience with them? Also any other suggestions for a decent 5 string around the £300-£500 sort of range would be welcome. I'm getting married in November so it'll be a few months before i get one but i have to allow myself enough time to change my mind at least 15 times Cheers

Also as far as transport goes, rope in your mates, Youll be surprised how much kit you can hang off your body and arms when cramming on to a train!

In my experience of playing these sort of shows when i was gigging this sounds nothing out of the ordinary. its aggravating as hell but its just the way it goes really. I always found it was generally the headline band that lent out the majority of the kit i.e drums (except breakables), and amps/cabs. best bet is just to take your own head if youve got one and ask to run through the cab, if not wouldnt worry, be polite and grateful and generally people are happy to lend kit aslong as you treat it right and dont assume that youll be using it regardless. A lot of the time wed end up taking full backline and leaving what we didnt need backstage/ in the corner of the club because the promoter was useless. wouldnt worry too much 90% of the time as it'll all change on the night in terms of gear lending, and being a bass player worst case scenario youll be straight through the PA (which will either lead to an awful night for you or a fantastic sound depending upon the soundguy and rig etc). I'ts all part of the fun of being in an unsigned band, Embrace it generally (IMO) most promoters havent got a clue, youll suss out the good venues and good promoters and end up cutting out the useless ones.

I used to have a Hartke head and it was the thinnest sound ever! ran it with Hartke cabs too which weren't too bad once I changed the head up!

Thanks a lot gents! I was quite young the last time and building a Rig, Once I got the one I wanted I got out before I changed my mind! Had a few issues with my head recently and also getting into effects a lot, so not knowing a fat lot about them has been making me wish I had the advice I used to get on here, so i'm back! Sweet thanks a lot gents, that's exactly what I wanted to know. so If I used a Boss LS-2 mentioned by Shep to create a parallel chain, How would I go about running the individual loops aswell? would I need a line selector for every individual loop? also could I set up individual loops without running a parallel loop? (so, could I add individual loops into my current chain? Thanks again Alex

Hi so... I have recently gone from using just a distortion and tuner to experimenting with effects and boards etc so im new to the whole chain thing. I've seen on here a lot of people talking about separate loops etc. I was hoping someone could explain how and why the reason for running separate chains within a pedalboard. Completely new to pedalboards and effects but im gonna be building on my board with tremelo and delay pedals soon and just wanted to understand the reasons for and how too run separate chains in order to get the best setup. My current setup is: Bass>envelope filter>ashdowndistortion>EHXdistortion>compressor>tuner>amp(Ashdown ABM 500) I will be getting rid of the EHX Russian Muff soon and replacing it with a Tremelo and a Delay pedal. My power supply is the supplied one that came with my old Boss pedalboard, when I changed boards I built a little steel box for it and it powers the whole board. I tried uploading a picture but at the moment im having no joy. Hope you can help Alex
