1. This is just a few days old, I couldn't decide between this and a comfort strap, I think I made the wrong decision . It's a short one, in the shiny black sharkskin material. £25 including UK postage.
2.
Yep, don't get this colour, at all. Nash does a better relic, IMO.
Yeah, I saw a Nash somewhere, it genuinely seemed old somehow ! You could imagine it being played in countless smokey bars and clubs over years and years. My Pino P bass looks old, but doesn't feel it.
3. This is really nice, and had some great reviews when it was new. http://www.soundonso.../arttubemp.html I just bought a new Focusrite Scarlett interface, so this is a bit redundant now. This is in excellent condition, and includes the original packaging and the power supply. Here's some technical info about it. 5. I like to practice things at a faster tempo anyway, so I'd choose 130 if the song's at 125bpm. I also practice stuff at half tempo, so I'd set it at maybe 63bpm and use the metronome so it's just playing beats 2 and 4.
6. The neck looks good, not sure about the body though. I can never see why people assume there'd be such uniform wearing across the top of the body. The wear in the top waist of the body looks good. I've seen relic'd 70's jazz basses with the same sort of wear on the body, 70's basses were polyester finished though, so you wouldn't get the paint rubbing off from an arm or a sleeve.
7. This came with my USA made Marcus Miller 5 string jazz bass. It's in pretty much perfect condition, I have never used it, I prefer to use a gig bag and the case is in the way (I've kept it behind the sofa in the living room, my Dad's now discovered the hiding place and is moaning about it ) I'd prefer collection from my home in Birmingham, but will ship at the buyers expense.
8.
I'll take the brown one mate, if its still there. Can you PM me Paypal details please! Cheers!
Cool, message sent.
9. These come in packs of three unfortunately, and I only actually wanted the one, so if anyone else fancies trying these without having to pay for 3 of them, then now's your chance. These are large size, so they'll fit 5 and 6 strings basses. I have an[s] orange one [/s]and a [s]brown one[/s]. I'd like £7.50 each which includes postage and packing.
10. Wow, that's sad. I just got my niece interested in his designs, I actually bought her a brilliant book about him for easter.
11. I'm after a nice wide strap for a rather heavy bass. This one that Pino's playing looks perfect, though I'm guessing it's possibly a bit expensive . There's a logo on it, but it's a bit small to make out what it says.
12. I think the Fender originals are fitted to basses like the Pino custom shop models, I may be wrong though.
13. I think I have a transcription somewhere, it's standard notation though, but let me know if it's any good and I can email it to you or something.
14. Can I ask if you have ever compared these with other P bass pickups ?
15. I find it very hard to believe that Coldplay could even come into the top 100, let alone make it to number 1. Coldplay, Keane and Duran Duran as the top 3 just about shows how serious anyone should take this . You read through it thinking yes, yes, yes and then all of a sudden you come across Maroon 5 and then Shania Twain !
16.
"walking jazz bass lines..any old shi*e played with a straight face." Im sure i read that in a bass magazine once?
What's the magazine, just so I can avoid buying it . Analyse a walking bass line played by someone like La Faro or Chambers, or any number of amazing players, and you'll see that it isn't any old shi*e played with a straight face .
17. I don't have a problem with the bass guitar being used to fulfil any given role, as long as the musician using it is capable then it can be a very expressive instrument. Solo bass guitar, why not ? What's the difference between that and solo trombone ? It's a very versatile instrument, and its capabilities are limited only by the person playing it, oh and by the listener not being a small minded dick who doesn't see the possibilities. Gotta say I don't like the first track, simply cos of the guitar !

19.
That's the weird thing with Palladino.. in a way he is a very busy player but he does it so well that it doesn't bother. Someone asked me once to learn "New York Minute" on fretless because he wanted to cover it and I learned it note for note. When we played it he told me after one rehearsal "that bass is just too busy, you should play it like on the record". He was surprised when he found out I played the same thing and hadn't added a note. I once asked Pino for advice when people would ask me to play like him in the studio.. he said "Tell them to f*ck off" :-)
You've just said what I was trying to say in my reply above, but I didn't express myself too well ! You don't realise how much he's playing until you analyse it. Listen to some of the old Paul Young records, the bass was often extremely high in the mix, but it never got in the way of the vocals. Don't forget this was 'pop' music, the vocal was the main thing. Often his playing would compliment the vocal. Just ordered the Jose James album !
20. I'm actually just listening to his fretless playing with PSP on the live album. Very, very Jaco'ish, but really very, very good. I prefer him to John Entwistle with the Who. I think Entwistle got too far away from how he started. He was very much inspired by the Motown vibe early on, which Pino still retains. I've got a live CD of the Who's Brighton gig in 2006, you can get them from here http://www.themusic.com/encore/thewho2/ His playing is just there, it never gets in the way of anything, it's just there !

Fave guitar solo?

Comfortably numb by David Gilmour.
