1. I've made a start. Being a Sci-Fi fan, I get plenty of ideas from this pic (maybe too many).
2. It was supposed to be a "remix" of a song, but after playing about & making a track that sounded like Enigma, I decided to just keep the vocals & percussion, put some dirt on the piano & record my own bass & guitar & program some rock sounding drums & a few synth bits. Here's what I made. https://soundcloud.com/gxmix/flashbacks-gx-mix How do the drums sound? I'm never satisfied with my drums.
3. Have a look at the NI Komplete Audio 6 too. Fits in front of my macbook case & powers off the USB. Has 4 audio in/out, SPDIF in/out & MIDI in/out. Solid bit of kit too.
4. I'll pick 'em, slap 'em & finger 'em. Strings that is.
5. I've only listened to the early entries so far. I usually wait until they're all up & give the whole list a couple of listens. I'll listen to the ones on this page later today.
6. YouTube is a great place to get piano tutorials. The Roland ones are good for getting your posture & warn up excersises. Learn your correct fingering for both left & right hands.
7. Have a look at Freshman guitars too. You'll pick up a decent one 2nd hand well within your budget.
8. I'm taking a guess that it's an Ampeg PF500 & a Hartke 1x15.
9. I couldn't choose a definitive top 5, but here's 5 of my favourites. Girlfriend Is Better - Talking Heads Shy Boy - Talas The More I Have You - Kurt Elling Concerto Grosso, Op. 6, No 12 (III: Aria: Larghetto e Piano) - Handel Sweet Lovin' - Sigala
10.
Yeah I guess I could actual have just said "like Billy Gould's tone but with some bottom end". I actually had a listen to some of the isolated bass tracks on YouTube recently expecting to hear all the low end that I assumed was buried in the mix somewhere but no, there just isn't any!!
Come to think of it, Introduce Yourself has the same low end on the bass. Maybe Mr Gould was inspired by Billy Sheehan's "Talas" tone & thought "I can go one better!"?
11. Apparently died of the Flu.
12. Just flashed up from Sky news on my phone. I hope they're wrong!
13.
I'd say the result was something like the punch and bite of Billy Gould's tone on The Real Thing album but with a meatier bottom end which is pretty much the description I'd have used if you'd asked me what my ideal tone would be.
I think turning your amp's "bass" dial 1 notch from right down would give you a meatier bottom end! As brilliant an album as that is, I think Matt Wallace used a pair of PA subs to master it on.
14.
Does soundcloud do weird stuff to the upload???
Not that I know of, but I'm deaf. Make a Soundcloud account & have a play about with it. I've got a few SC accounts.
15. Just had a listen to the other noodles. It amazes me how each one sounds very different & none are something that I could have come up with. Brilliant stuff chaps!
16.
Thanks dad... I see it has been delt with...
& here's me thinking that you liked it soo much that you had to post twice! Glad you enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to letting the band hear it.
17. I'm really struggling to get something from the pics. I might give this month's a miss.
18. Here's my entry. https://soundcloud.com/xgsjx/maruchan I started writing this bassline many moons ago & then forgot about it. I was messing about with my bass & started playing it again. I'm gonna put it to the band & see if they fancy working on it. If not, it'll go to a wee project. Ibby bass into Logic, bass amp sim, compressor, reverb & delay on a couple of busses & that's it. Played along to a click at 188 bpm.
19.
Well, it used to be accepted to conk ladies on the head and drag 'em into caves. It's called evolution, I think.
Where can I find this evolution?
20. I'm waiting for ZZ top to sue Status Quo!
21. Money & a skint/greedy relative?
22. Sit back & think about what sort of music you would enjoy playing the most, then join/start a band that fills your musical needs.
23. Ain't it funny how some months the pic can click with you & then other months - nothing. I'll keep trying, but the image gives me fast action & the video gives me slow suspense. Maybe I could do something about a dog chasing them down the mountain? I'll keep at it.
24. The other thing to take into account (which I'm surprised no one mentioned, including me), is the venue itself. I found that every venue I played, I had a slightly different EQ setting. Always tried to go as flat as possible, but at many venues, flat sounds crap.
25. When playing live, it's down to what instruments there are, what genre of music & what should you're going for. That EQ setting would probably have worked well in my old rock band too (& the new band), but then it might have needed something different for my acoustica band.
