1. I have to get my own gear out and into the back of the car - so I can't match these times - but I tend to aim for under 10 minutes. The rest of the band usually haven't touched a thing as I'm driving out of the car park. I'm just anti social I think.
2. Sunday evening bump!
3. You could be overthinking it
4. I hear you... I try it sitting down and on a strap. I usually just play a few scales up and down the neck and some simple lines to songs that I actually play. Fourteen year olds playing manic slap aren't buying anyway. Bitter experience has proved that it's a minefield anyway. You don't really find out until you get it home.
5. I've seen this question generate a surprising amount of division. Personally I enjoy the challenge of getting as close as I can to the original line. Sometimes I don't have the skill or don't have the time or the recording isn't clear enough - however, that's my aim. Some people think putting their own twist on it is important. I think the only thing that really matters is that you don't loose the spirit of the original. Unless, of course, you mean to Just reading Hiram's posting - learning parts for a covers band (I've been in a few) is, I think, a skill in itself. I've got quite efficient at it now. I actually quite enjoy having to learn loads of songs for a new set. Slowing down, pitch shifting and looping software is your best friend.
6. Saturday night bump!!
7. 1. Learn to do your own setup 2. If it's ok leave it alone. When I used to fix electroniky stuff for a living we'd get people in asking for xyz to be 'serviced'. I'd ask "what's wrong with it" and they say "nothing" so I'd give them it back - that's why I'm not in business any more
8. Just to pick up on a point made earlier. While an RCD is a good idea it only really works if everything is wired up something-like properly. It's no substitute for checking the sockets are properly wired (socket tester) and that your gear has continuous earths et al (PAT testing + replace stuff that's obviously knackered).
9. Thanks I'm off to that Laaaandan today (Friday 17th) and tomorrow so will likely be out of internet range.
10.
I have no such claims to fame. My Dad, however, went to school with Anthony Stewart Head His Brother, one Murray Head (for those of you that remember him!) And some complete unknown called Brian May..... All different years in Grammar school, mind.
I didn't realise they were brothers. Of course as soon as someone points it out they do look very alike.
11. Get your stuff PAT tested and get one of those wiring tester thingies for the sockets. A relative of mine was killed (in their house) due to a socket being wired arse-about. It takes sod-all to kill you. I'm not one of these terrified of electricity types but only because I check stuff is done right.
12. I'd just get her used to a proper bass. I take it she isn't abnormally tiny? Kids all seem to be 6-foot tall at 13 these days. I've seen some very small girls with very big basses. I was stood next to Melissa Auf Der Maur a couple of years back and she's tiny (I like to drop that into conversations) - big precisions.
13. I've been replaced on a number of occasions now. I've always traded on the basis of owning a big car and turning up on time rather than any musical ability to speak of.
14. I went out with a girl called Rosemary (!) at school and her next door neighbour was Lili Premilovich a.k.a. Lene Lovich (Lucky Number and all that). Victoria Avenue in Hull if you are interested
15. Yeh - I can't fault it at all but I have both a Bongo and a Stingray so, realistically, it's never going to get played.
16. a couple of glimmers of interest but nothing definite yet..... bump!!
17. I just checked the www.musicmanbass.org and it's in there... X05439...16 Dec 2003. Red Looks like the earliest ones were April of 2003.
18. Back up for sale after previous sale fell through. Musicman SUB in red. This is the 2EQ model with active circuit. I shouldn't need to tell you but this is, all but the shouting, the same thing as a proper 2EQ Stingray for no money. I'm selling it simply because I've run out of hooks on the wall Good bits:

Overall very good condition - no significant problems to report
Set of brand new Slinkies fitted
Just had a new jack fitted - which is not an entirely straightforward matter on these
New Duracell battery (I know, I know but every bass I buy comes with a flat battery!)
Setup cleaned and checked
Proper black Stingray scratch plate (if I can find the original silver SUB one you can have it)
In a half decent gig bag
Not so good bits

Has met the ceiling at some point and a few scratches on the head. Been touched up.
Small scratch on the face of the body (you need to look for it)
Price is £340 which is what it was previously advertised at (BC goodwill and all that). I'm sorry but that's the bottom line for me so I can't take offers. In any case that's much cheaper than I have seen others advertised for recently. Postage will be £25 but that will be fully insured (e.g. ParcelFarce isn't!). Only trade I would be interested in is a lightweight cab of some sort.
19. Load of drunks in the back who've blagged a lift home demanding to stop at the kebab shop..... yeh yeh
20. Beyerdynamic DT-100 are the de-facto studio cans and are round about that sort of money. EDIT: Oh NC - you sure? Most of them are rubbish or expensive or both.
21. I think that article hyped it up a bit. There's nothing rare about a tobacco sunburst 1100S surely? Worth $4,000 "at least"?? Err, ok? Obviously it's rough if an item has sentimental value...
22. I've bought and sold quite a bit of gear both here and on evilBay and I can't say I've had any bother to speak of with either. One strange deal for a bass years ago with eBay but it got resolved with a bit of shouting I buy loads of stuff on eBay - you do have to be careful. It's full of forgeries of just about everything and eBay couldn't give a toss if you get stung.
23. I like the way she's actually quite geeky (for want of a better word). Too many successful female bass players are suspiciously supermodel-esque.
24. Neck shape/width. It took me a while to discover that I was really quite fussy about it.
25. I'm not surprised that these kids don't know Paul McCartney. What ired me more was the "I live in the now" attitude shown a number of times. As if "modern" music just appeared out of nowhere. From nothing. With no history. Arses
