1. Just got a delivery from the nice ppl at Gigrig, got a doubler and a couple of timelords for running my Strymon timeline and to give the Moog Clusterflux a bit more jucice! have to say the Cali at 18v is excellent, didnt really think there would be a big dif, but its def gained some headroom and seemingly a bit more punchy nice crispy sound but still the big bottom end using the hpf. well worth trying out! Andy
2.
Andy - please tell me you're still doing a comparison / shoot out?? 3 muffs and 2 rats? edit - or is that 4 muffs??
There might be video coming soon you might like
3. i use an ehx pitchfork andy
4.
Interesting, thanks for that. The review on ovnilab really threw me off the compact bass because he described it as sounding 'bright, hard, punchy sound with more highs' and said it was the exact opposite of the Darkglass. Going off the comparison he does at the end of the compact bass review the smoothie sounds more like my cup of tea, but then you recommended it for reasons I'd want
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VikwVu5qHO0 If you listen through good head phones this demo shows some sounds, rather than trying to go of words Andy
5.
Do you run it at 9v?
Yep I run it at 9v
6.
I' on the hunt for a compressor - I want something for functionality & for a super fat/magic tone. Done a load of reading on ovnilab.com so no need to recommend it. I want something between the 2 extremes - I don't want the likes of the diamond bass comp which is only good for tone, and I don't want something like the MXR which is completely transparent and a good limiter. I want both! I love the FEA DE-CL & Opti-fet, but the whole 12 month waiting list is a bit of a turn off. Doing a lot of reading on ovnilab.com, I think an optical compressor will provide the tone I'm after? The Effectrode sounds great but I want something that will run on 9v. These are the 7 pedals I'm thinking about: - Darkglass Supersymmetry - meant to have a nice tone, but apparently the actually compression effect is subtle which I'm not sure I like - Ovnifx Smoothie - seems like a good compressor. I don't know whether it enhances your tone unless you adjust the tone function, or has a baked in sound ala Diamond BCP-1. - Daring Audio Phat Beam - bit of a wacky pedal and doesn't work as a conventional compressor (read Bongo's review), but apparently capable of a super thick sound while also being a good compressor. - Okko Coca - again not a conventional compressor, it raises the level of your quieter sounds without reducing the level of louder ones. Apparently can produce a fat & dark sound but don't know how well it would work as a peak limiter. - Tortenmann TK-23 - I think this is on the dirty compressor side of things. Apparently sounds thick and old-school which appeals, but the ratio is fixed at 2:1 so it won't act as a peak limiter. - Dedalo Gorila - If I'm honest I don't know all that much about this pedal. I know it's an optical comp that sounds kind of warm, other than that would love more info about this pedal. - Origin Cali76 CB - I've read a lot of conflicting stuff about this one. SOme say it's crips and transparent and nothing like its big brother, others say it adds magic to their tone. SO would love some more opinions on it. Not sure how well it would do at 9v with my stingray bass. So there you have it, apologies for the essay Anybody have any experience with any of the above? Or can you recommend something I've not listed (Somebody literally 5 seconds ago on TB suggested the Demeter comp)? Things to consider is I have a high-output bass (stingray) and want something that will fine on 9v.
I've got the Cali CB, adds a lot of warmth and with the blend you can really compress your sound but still blend back some original and use the hpf to add in a bit more focused lows. Really good comp it's an always on pedal for me It replaced my old cali76-g, with the added features and size difference it was a no brainer to go to the CB Andy
7. Most of my gear is guitar effects but there are a few in there bass only things in there. My Cali 76 bass compact and my cog custom but all the rest are guitar based fuzzes delays and chorus stuff
8.
Andy - please tell me you're still doing a comparison / shoot out?? 3 muffs and 2 rats? edit - or is that 4 muffs??
I've done 3 rats, did t think about muffs, got a lot of fuzzes but not done them together
9. the latest edition! Andy
10. recently did a little video showing how the original rat stands up against its newer modded counter parts https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWu_OO1oVMo
11. my fav drives and fuzzes are clones with some added bits, but to go with originals gotta be the sovtek muff and proco rat Andy
12. did this little video to compare some of the rat type drives. got a classic proco rat, a fuzzrocious rat tail and cog effects tk-421x, all sounded great but what do you guys think? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWu_OO1oVMo Andy
13. Got the pumpkin in last week finally had a chance to play it! Holy hell!!! http://youtu.be/izLZ4cNLHSo
14. go this to do a demo and just wnt be using it, its an awesome thing tho! been played once, comes as new with unused power supply. 140 quid to your door. Andy
15.
you absolute monkey! I was in PMT today picking up an MXR micro amp and they have all the strymon stuff. The timeline looks so tiny, I thought it would be twice the size it is! very tempted to get one at some point. 100% don't need one but they look so much fun!
Holy crap! The timeline is amazing!!!!!!!!
16. recently did a few demos of a few pedals B9 organ machine by ehx https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jQ_x92_vXU and El capistan Dtape echo by Strymon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_mzdvvIaGw both are awesome in there own way, the strymon is an amazing delay! and works so well with other effects, the b9 is what it is it makes you sound like an organ. andy
17. Now 200 pound plus postage https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_mzdvvIaGw Andy
18.
I just got a BigSky, having owned some of the smaller Strymon pedals before, and was similarly surprised at how compact it is. It does look bigger in images. As I use it for synths and am a desktop sort of music maker, I going to make a nice wooden stand for it, along with my Shruthi and Streichfett, and possibly my Waldorf, if I don't sell that. Expensive things like Strymons can be bought on 0% credit over 9 months or longer at some online places, which makes them temptingly affordable, sort of. Mine was from GuitarGuitar.
I'm hopeing this wnt lead to fading for another strymon
19.
oh, what do you think of the TK421x???
honestly did not have time to plug it in! this sat i should be able to! got a proco rat in aswell so theres gonna be a battle of the rats coming soon! Andy
20.
you absolute monkey! I was in PMT today picking up an MXR micro amp and they have all the strymon stuff.
its tiny! i thought it would be much bigger aswell! ive got it more for my other project and the ease of switching between crazy sounds!
21. Loved my el capistan but needed the extra features of the timeline. Can't wait to give the pedal board a remake and get some more delay going on. Andy
22. So im want a few more delays for a project, ideally pre-sets so looking to just grab a Timeline. so really this has to be moved on. also have a favourite switch, basically means you can have another delay on standby! oh and the capistan has a sick reverb inside as well! looking for 200 plus postage for the lot, its all like new but they do have velcro on them from being on my board! sorry for the bad pic but board at rehearsal space, and comes with strymon power supply. Andy
