nothing wrong with ss amps i loved my old markbass lm2 but valves have a sound and putting drives on top of driven tubes sounds amazing. not saying the class d stuff sounds bad, but also alot depends on the cab aswell ive tried really small 112's and it just doesnt sound as big as i want, not tried any barefaced cabs but my current 810 is my favourite cab, massive mid punch! low mids for me is where the punch/heft is. Any of the strymon delays will do what your after but the el capistan with a favourite switch will give a you basically two awesome delays in one, has reverb like the eqd aswell Andy

i use the akg, gets nice full sound i mic about 40mm from the speaker, i have used the di in the past however i much prefer to use a mic, have considered grabbing something to start dual micing but the d112 comes really close to what is actually coming out of the cab. i actually got the akg after recording with my band liking the recorded tone we got and finding out it was the akg infront of my cab. had my first little play tonight! it needs time but such a cool pedal, being able to give things abit more cut or low end! i put it after my drives and before a fuzz really interesting to see how it effects things differently! very happy

mids are where its at for metal! so id ask first what bass you have? and cab. for me my 810 and ashdown ctm 100 are a perfect combo! bump the mid on the head and ive got a big ass pedalboard but an always on pedal is my pike vulcan xl, giving a big bump in low mids, the sound really works with my jazz v and even my crazy low tuned 6 string for metal. i used to use a tb1000 id sometimes put a rack eq infront to boost the mids and take of some lows but it worked really well!
