Great band. The drummer, Evan Jenkin, used to pay with the Matt Scofield Band and I've seen him with Ian Siegal too. I'd love to see this outfit but haven't had the chance yet. Thanks for posting.

I think this touches on a few recent threads. I enjoyed seeing this one about the Mahavishnu Orcs. I loved the band. Can you imagine a record label bank-rolling an act like them now? I realised all I'd got was Inner Mounting Flame and Birds of Fire on vinyl records. So, a quick look on Amazon. They've got a 5 cd complilation for £10.99. So I ordered it at 22.30 on Thursday night. I went for the free 'super saver' delivery option. Jeanette, my smiling postie has just delivered it on Saturday morning, Christmas Eve. Brilliant.

Personal opinion, but it should be in keeping with the mood/groove/key of the song. If a solo doesn't add something to the song, then no no no no.

Welcome Jay. I've got a Behringer 2x10 cabinet that I use week-in week-out. For the price I paid for it it's great. The only problem is that it weighs the same as a small Soviet tank, and is probably made out of similar components. Enjoy the forum.

I love my Squier VM Jazz. For £170 it was a great buy. I've also got a Squier 'Telebass' (in my avatar picture). That's a good 'un too but with the mudbucker pickup a bit of a one trick pony. As much as I also love my more expensive basses it's great to be able to take an instrument out without the anxiety of it getting nicked or damaged.

Welcome Jez. I've got a Squier VM Jazz. I often take it out in preference to my USA and Japanese Fenders. They're great for the price.

I work for a Primary school as a teaching assistant. My paid hours have been cut repeatedly over the last couple of years and I've made up the financial shortfall with more live band work and teaching guitar and bass. However when I get asked if I can do some extra hours at school(say for covering a colleague off sick), if I say 'sorry, got a band commitment' they get a bit snotty. It's my experience in a very varied 35 year working career that employers try to have it both ways - if you let them get away with it. Memoirs of a Geezer: Music, Mayhem, Life by Jah Wobble. Very entertaining auto-bio by a very interesting bassist and character. His musical areas have been mostly punk/reggae/world music, so it might not be your area really. But a good holiday read I'd say.

I play with a talented jazz pianist. He once said to me 'the more you play with the writen music the less you are able to play without it'. When we bring a new song in (recently 'Georgia on my mind') we play from the dots until we've solidly learned it. Then we put away the music, and in general[i] never look at it again.[/i]
